40s/50s classic print of GIRL PLAYING WITH BALL (help me find)

Someone just asked me to track down the name/artist of a classic, much reproduced painting of a girl on her doorstep playing with a blue or red bouncy ball.

I am rubbish at the sort of thing and don't have any memory of the picture myself. She says it's Tretchikoff era but not especially in the same style.

V. grateful if you can help, even by remembering more details of the way the picture looks.

If you're rubbish at it, what does that make us?

('Us'?)

Rubbish at finding pictures specifically - I was hoping someone's parents might have had the poster.

I am disappointed at the lack of interest in GIRL PLAYING WITH BALL

That's nu-ILE for you.

Is it a Norman Rockwell pic, N.? It sounds like the kind of thing he did, though after a quick browse through some online image galleries, I can't find anything he did featuring a girl and boy.

girl and ball, that should have said.

She doesn't know who it's by.

Sorry N., but without any idea of who the artist is this type of picture request is vague enough that is difficult to search.

I don't expect anyone to search for it. I know it's too vague for that. I was just hoping that someone might have had it hanging over their mantelpiece as a child and it might jog their memory.

She claims (though I no longer believe her, unless her memory of the picture is very wrong) that it was a really mass produced image.

Norman Rockwell, maybe?

Sorry. Duh. Not reading very carefully, leave me alone, I've got a hangover. :-(

Margaret Keane

or one of her endless imitators. will leave the rest to one of you with broadband...

try also searching for wayne hemingway - he had a book out a couple of years ago called 'above tha mantelpiece' that was all about this stuff.

i think it's a dallas simpson, similar to the one here. google returns a lot of 'sound artist dallas simpson' but not much else.

the era is a little off, but maybe your friend is thinking of Balthus's La Rue (1933)?
