"gonna lay my head, on some lonesome railroad line / let that 219 baby, take away my mind"

amateur!st (amateurist), Sunday, 9 November 2003 15:56 (twenty-two years ago)

i think nina simone sings it as "let that 219 train, ease my troubled mind" but the version i posted is better, it's such an awful image.

amateur!st (amateurist), Sunday, 9 November 2003 16:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm coming up man-sized
Skinned alive
I want to fit
I've got to get
Man-sized
I'm heading on
Handsome
Got my leather boots on

Got my girl and she's a wow
I cast my iron knickers down
Man-size no need to shout
Can you hear can you hear me now
I'm MAN-sized
MAN-SIZED

Vic (Vic), Sunday, 9 November 2003 16:09 (twenty-two years ago)

*laughs at the song Vic brought up*

I remember watching the music video for that back around 1994 or so when my dad passed my bedroom, took one look at what I was watching, looked at me strangely, and said something like, "What on Earth are you watching? That woman is weird." I continued watching because I really like[d] that song.

Oh my, memories. Hee. Oh yes, and favorite lines from songs?

"Funny it's just like a scene out of Voltaire, twisting out of sight/
'Cause when all the curtains are pulled back, we'll turn and see the circles we've traced."

That's one of many. Unfortunately, all would be from the same musical artist, so I'll just leave it at that. :)

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Sunday, 9 November 2003 22:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the Bob Wills version of that line "Let the 2:19 train pacify my mind."

my fave from Lonegone Lonesome Blues, Hank Williams:

"I'm goin' down to the river, one that's cold as ice
When I get I to that river lord I'm gonna pay the price
I'm goin' down in it three time but Lord, I'm only comin' up twice"

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Sunday, 9 November 2003 22:30 (twenty-two years ago)

My favourite Hank Williams is a good answer to this for me:
The silence of a falling star
Lights up a purple sky
And as I wonder where you are
I'm so lonesome I could cry

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 9 November 2003 23:02 (twenty-two years ago)

and to continue that ol' timey depressing lyric theme over to the Carter Family...

When the cold, cold grave shall enclose me
Will you come dear and shed just one tear
And say to the strangers around you
A poor heart you have broken lies here

joni (joni), Sunday, 9 November 2003 23:17 (twenty-two years ago)

TS: the sun's gonna shine in my backdoor someday vs. the sun shines out of our behinds

Sean (Sean), Sunday, 9 November 2003 23:40 (twenty-two years ago)

"you know my love goes with you, as your love stays with me
it's just the way it changes, like the shoreline and the sea"

Jay Dee Sah Mon (Kingfish), Sunday, 9 November 2003 23:54 (twenty-two years ago)

"i can't feel you anymore/i can't stand to touch the books you've read"

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 10 November 2003 02:56 (twenty-two years ago)

also, "oops, there go my kids all over your face."

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 10 November 2003 02:57 (twenty-two years ago)

The screen door slams
Mary's dress waves
Like a vision she dances across the porch
As the radio plays
Roy Orbison singing for the lonely
Hey that's me and I want you only
Don't turn me home again
I just can't face myself alone again
Don't run back inside
darling you know just what I'm here for
So you're scared and you're thinking
That maybe we ain't that young anymore
Show a little faith, there's magic in the night
You ain't a beauty, but hey you're alright
Oh and that's alright with me

You can hide `neath your covers
And study your pain
Make crosses from your lovers
Throw roses in the rain
Waste your summer praying in vain
For a savior to rise from these streets
Well now I'm no hero
That's understood
All the redemption I can offer, girl
Is beneath this dirty hood
With a chance to make it good somehow
Hey what else can we do now
Except roll down the window
And let the wind blow back your hair
Well the night's busting open
These two lanes will take us anywhere
We got one last chance to make it real
To trade in these wings on some wheels
Climb in back
Heaven's waiting on down the tracks
Oh oh come take my hand
Riding out tonight to case the promised land
Oh oh Thunder Road, oh Thunder Road
oh Thunder Road
Lying out there like a killer in the sun
Hey I know it's late we can make it if we run
Oh Thunder Road, sit tight take hold
Thunder Road

Well I got this guitar
And I learned how to make it talk
And my car's out back
If you're ready to take that long walk
>From your front porch to my front seat
The door's open but the ride it ain't free
And I know you're lonely
For words that I ain't spoken
But tonight we'll be free
All the promises'll be broken
There were ghosts in the eyes
Of all the boys you sent away
They haunt this dusty beach road
In the skeleton frames of burned out Chevrolets

They scream your name at night in the street
Your graduation gown lies in rags at their feet
And in the lonely cool before dawn
You hear their engines roaring on
But when you get to the porch they're gone
On the wind, so Mary climb in
It's a town full of losers
And I'm pulling out of here to win.

That's also my new entry for the pinnacle of human artistic achievement thread.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 10 November 2003 03:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, and "We don't give a fuck about your frigging arial, so stick it up your arse with your pirate material", obviously.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 10 November 2003 03:01 (twenty-two years ago)

"Children waiting for the day they feel good, happy birthday, happy birthday/
Made to feel the way that every child should, sit and listen, sit and listen/
Went to school and I was very nervous, no one knew me, no one knew me/
Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson, look right through me, look right through me..."

I used to love to sing along to those lyrics! The whole song, really, but I don't really want to post the whole song at present.

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 10 November 2003 03:21 (twenty-two years ago)

In your eyes
the light the heat
in your eyes
I am complete
in your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
in your eyes
the resolution of all the fruitless searches
in your eyes
I see the light and the heat
in your eyes
oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
the heat I see in your eyes

Aaron A., Monday, 10 November 2003 06:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Love Nina Simone. I love her asides on "Mississippi Goddamn." ("Bet you all thought I was kidding, didn't you?")

"It's the frickin' weeken'" is my favorite line this year.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Monday, 10 November 2003 07:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Long afloat on shipless oceans
I did all my best to smile
'Til your singing eyes and fingers
Drew me loving to your isle
And you sang
Sail to me
Sail to me
Let me enfold you
Here I am
Here I am
Waiting to hold you

Did I dream you dreamed about me?
Were you hare when I was fox?
Now my foolish boat is leaning
Broken lovelorn on your rocks,
For you sing, "Touch me not, touch me not, come back tomorrow:
O my heart, O my heart shies from the sorrow"

I am puzzled as the newborn child
I am troubled at the tide:
Should I stand amid the breakers?
Should I lie with Death my bride?
Hear me sing, "Swim to me, Swim to me, Let me enfold you:
Here I am, Here I am, Waiting to hold you"

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 10 November 2003 08:13 (twenty-two years ago)

"That girl thinks she's the queen of the neighborhood/I've got news for you/SHE IS"

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 10 November 2003 08:16 (twenty-two years ago)

She don't rock 'n' roll, she don't like it
She don't do the stroll, no she don't do it right

Sarah Pedal (call mr. lee), Monday, 10 November 2003 08:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Also:

"Imagine my hand around your penis/Damn, son, you just had a stroke of genius."

Best couplet ever!

Sarah Pedal (call mr. lee), Monday, 10 November 2003 08:34 (twenty-two years ago)

"Whatever makes her happy, I won't stand in the way
But the bitter taste still lingers on, from the night I tried to make her stay"

I felt the cool cool breeze
Blowin' cool off Lake Louise
Blowin' cool off Lake Louise
Blowin' cool off Lake Louise

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 10 November 2003 08:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Do something about your long, filthy hair
It looks like a rat's nest
Do something about your mullet
Get out the hair clippers, jerk
Cut the mullet
Cut the mullet
Cut the mullet
Cut the mullet
Get the rat's nest off your head
Get that crazy-ass mother off your skull
Take your ass to the barber shop
Tell the barber that you're sick of looking like an asshole
Cut the mullet
Cut the mullet
Cut the mullet
Cut the mullet
The mullet is the reason why people hate you
They are sick of looking at your nappy weed-sack
Nobody wants to look at you with that mullet on your head
Why don't you cut that mullet, you numbskull
Cut the mullet
Cut the mullet
Cut the mullet
Cut the mullet

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 10 November 2003 08:48 (twenty-two years ago)

only raw gargles croak from your throat
a trickling death-rasp as you choke
a silly grin carved from ear to ear
spurting mucus and tongue as your wind-pipe tears

Pukatawagan
Pukatawagan
That's where I come from
Pukatawagan

That's where I was born

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 10 November 2003 08:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Like a snake calling on the phone
I've got no time to be alone
There is someone coming at me all the time
Yeah babe I think I'll lose my mind

'Cause I'm stranded on my own
Stranded far from home, all right

I'm riding on a midnight train
And everybody looks just the same
A subway light it's dirty reflection
I'm lost babe I got no direction

And I'm stranded on my own
Stranded far from home, all right

Stranded - Yeah I'm on my own
Stranded - I'm so far from home
Stranded - You gotta leave me alone
'Cause I'm stranded on my own, stranded far from home.

Come on!

Look at me looking at you
There ain't a thing that I can do
You are lost, your mind is stuck in a whirl
Yeah honey such a stupid girl

Now I'm stranded on my own
Stranded far from home, come on.

Stranded - Yeah I'm on my own
Stranded - I'm so far from home
Stranded - You gotta leave me alone
'Cause I'm stranded on my own, stranded far from home.

All right

Livin' in a world insane
They cut out some heart and some brain
Been filling it up with dirt
Yeah baby dunno how it hurts

To be stranded on your own
Stranded far from home, all right

Stranded - I'm so far from home
Stranded - Yeah I'm on my own
Stranded - You got to leave me alone

Come on!

Stranded - I'm so far from home
Stranded - Yeah I'm on my own
Stranded - You got to leave me alone
'Cause I'm stranded on my own
Stranded

(The number of "awrights" and "c'mons" in a song have a positive correlation to its awesomeness.)

"ya got some funny lookin' toes"

Eric H. (Eric H.), Monday, 10 November 2003 09:06 (twenty-two years ago)

motherfuckers are so nice
suck my dick

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 10 November 2003 09:10 (twenty-two years ago)

"You can't believe in the one you're with, cause you know her tricks, and you know her past. When she makes a face, you just have to laugh. And you feel like such a know-it-all, when you only want just a tiny girl, and you hope she'll sing. So you turn around, toward the tiny girls, who have got no tricks, who have got no past, yeah that's what you think, and you hope she'll sing. But she sings of greed, like a young banshee." That all counts as one line.

maryann (maryann), Monday, 10 November 2003 09:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I wish I could remember some of the lyrics to that song 'Action Packed.' "When I get rich I'm not gonna buy me a cadillac, uh-uh, I'm gonna get me a rocket ship, something that'll take me there and back" etc etc. Sung as if by an altar boy through the chapel sound system.

maryann (maryann), Monday, 10 November 2003 09:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I would like to hear that song 'Tiny Girls' that I quoted sung by Ronnie Jordan. I don't know why I'm acting like anyone would or should have heard 'Action Packed' though. Musical obscurities are so irritating though I don't understand why. It's like there aren't any levels in pop culture - or whatever!

maryann (maryann), Monday, 10 November 2003 09:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Action Packed is one of my all-time favourite rock 'n' roll songs! I think Sam here is a fan too. But it's Ronnie Dawson, not Jordan, unless there is a cover about which I know nothing.
