So, has anyone ever actually won anything out of a packet of crisps?

Cause I never have. Granted, I don't eat that many crisps. But I always see things like £20 notes and things advertised on the packet, but I never win them, and I never knew anyone who had.

Only ever won another packet of crisps, only the voucher can't actually buy you any crips as it isn't for enough money. I think I knew someone that won a £20 note once, but then I might have dreamt that!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Crisps?

At first i thought you wrote Crips...imagine my confusion.

Spinktor the Unmerciful (mawill5), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

i won a korg poly800 synthesiser from "electronics and music maker" magazine in something like 1983.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Humph, that's really dumb, Pink! You would have thought they would have thought it out more...

Ditto candybar wrappers and their contests. I eat a lot more candy/sweets than I eat crisps, and I ain't never won no golden ticket.

Citizen Kate (kate), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

...but that's all i've ever won, apart from "another packet of crisps".

(should i pretend that i hit the submit button too early, or admit i didn't read the thread question properly?)

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:18 (twenty-two years ago)

'I've got a golden ticket, I've got a golden chance to...oh wait no i haven't.'

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, Pash, prizes in contests and raffles and things you actually have to enter don't count. Only crisps packets and candybar wrappers and tops of soda pop bottles. You know, things you buy anyway.

Citizen Kate (kate), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I've got six of those Walkers' free curry tokens here on my desk and another couple at home if that counts

chris (chris), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:19 (twenty-two years ago)

oh well, just another "free" packet of walker's crisps then.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Yup, I got curry/chinese food tokens too. But I've used one already, and to be honest, they're crap and save you pretty much fuck-all.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

My friend won £10 once (bah).
When I was younger and ate more crisps (all that salt/artificial flavouring/whatnot has probably ruined my tastebuds) I occasionally also only won another packet of crisps. That is all.

penelope (penelope), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

(Conclusion: crisp-makers = misers)

penelope (penelope), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris and Charlie, how many crisps do you actually eat in order to win all those tokens? Like, how many packets a week on average?

Citizen Kate (kate), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I found a cheque for £5 in a packet of Doritos years ago, it was signed by Sharon Davies. The blurb actually suggested I keep the cheque coz it had Sharon Davies autograph on it! Can you guess what I did....

smee (smee), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to eat loads & i didnt win anything. :-(

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Ive never won anything, but i did steal 60 pounds of mozarella from work once.

Spinktor the Unmerciful (mawill5), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I figure that it was just as satisfying.

Spinktor the Unmerciful (mawill5), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Who is Sharon Davies anyway?

She be a lady swimmer (yesno)?

Sarah (starry), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes.

smee (smee), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Like a swimmer would actually eat crisps?

Citizen Kate (kate), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I swim while eating crisps....

smee (smee), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

crisps = potato chips?

Spinktor the Unmerciful (mawill5), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

they get hangovers too kate!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

(Crisps = potato chips for the Americans)

Citizen Kate (kate), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Truth be told, my mum sent me one token - bless her - but I won the second one fair and square. I eat perhaps one 35g packet of crisps a day - that's not unusual, surely?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

sap on the side

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think it's unusual in England, no. But considering I eat perhaps 2 packets of crisps a month... no wonder I never win!

Citizen Kate (kate), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Erm Pashmina, wrong thread....

smee (smee), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

gah, i'm on form to-day, aren't i?

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:38 (twenty-two years ago)

It looked like you were being mean to CharlieNo4 for eating too many crisps tho....maybe you can still get away with it shhhhh...

smee (smee), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Kate, I eat about 4 packs a week, but I've been very very lucky with them

chris (chris), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Of course I eat too many crisps! Well, define "too many"...I probably eat one 35g packet a day. That's not too much, I don't think?

NB.i if it weren't for my crisp habit, I wouldn't own Tone Loc's "Funky cold Medina/On Fire" on 7", cos I collected Woolworths tokens from, er, Skips as I recall, in order to get it free. That makes it all worth while, don'tcha think?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I've never won anything off "a packet of crisps", but I have won free 20 oz bottles of soda off the caps of other sodas which I've bought. The last time it happened was about three years ago IIRC.

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:43 (twenty-two years ago)

oops, repetition. thought that last one hadn't worked for some reason. still, at least i'm consistent!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

When I was a nipper I'd win stuff out of bags of crisps all the time. It was only ever packets of salt though.

robster (robster), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

i've got a ton of the 'free curry/chinese meal' thing, but yeah, looks a bit crap.

was collecting codes of 'chocollect' which were on mars and snickers for a while. won several ringtones, and collected enough points to get 3 odeon vouchers. so that's no bad thing.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

All right, how about this. At a service station, with a packet of crisps, I got a leaflet with 3 pop questions, easy, and a route map around various service stations, and a "Guess the total mileage" question. So I took it home, worked out with my GB atlas and a knowledge of motorway turning points, added 2 miles for luck, won first prize a CD player for the car.

So, Out of a packet of crisps, I won a Car CD Player.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 10 November 2003 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Coca Cola always has their free 20oz coke bottlecap game, and the odds are one in six. And I knew people who would consistently pull the winner every time, but I'd drink three cokes a day and maybe win one once a month, when I should have been collecting them every other day.
