shoud the govt. of the USA legalise pot? could we handle it?

Mike Hanle y, Friday, 5 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yes. i cant speak that much for America. But i certainly believe it should be legalised here in the UK. i don't actually smoke it as it makes me tired, but i think it is absolutely ridiculuos that it is illegal.

I think it's ridiculous as well that it is illegal in the US and I rarely smoke it. I think that the government probably wouldn't make as much money off of it if they legalized it and then taxed it, then it would be monitored closer. I don't think that would sit well with them. What do you think the war on drugs is? I think it is a war on the distributors that are not connected and kicking back to the right people, if you get my drift.

I've long dreamed of the day when we can have Dutch-style coffee shops on our high streets(w/out the horrible dayglo psych posters of Marley, Morrison or Jimi, natch.)Pubs = dud. Coffee shops = classic.

BTW, my supplier of smokeable hemp products has just gone awol. If anyone here has a reliable contact, could they email me (I'm in London.) Thanks.

oh great, now the FEDS will come to ILE!

Mike Hanle y, Friday, 5 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, since outright legalisation probably won't happen within our lifetimes, how do y'all feel about the gradual shift toward decriminalization? I.e., you're still not supposed to have it, or sell it, or, say, drive a huge truck of it around, but no one will really be looking for it, and getting caught with any reasonable amount will only mean minor ticketing.

Certainly that is the way I think police are viewing it increasingly in London. Oddly the Brixton experiment has backfired somewhat, by saying they would only give people a verbal ticking off and confiscate the canabis they have to then constantly return to the cop shop with their haul. The previous method of really turning a blind eye (unless there was an old biddy around) which appears to be precticed in much of Camden generally works better.

Pete, Friday, 5 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It isn't legalised in Belgium. But the police tolerates the use of it. Sort of like in the Netherlands. No coffee shops here though. Not yet anyway.

WHAAAT? Coffee is still banned?

Nick, Friday, 5 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Leagilise it...and hippy shops would close down. No one would want to buy their silly pipes at expensive prices anymore.

Bunch of fucking potheads. Get a job. (I say this in part because of a certain fucking pothead who *needs* to get a job that I'm dealing with in my neck of the woods, but I'll leave it at that. ;-)) I've never been an indulger -- never liked smoking at all, tobacco or otherwise -- but I've known enough people who do that still deal with life just fine, so I don't care, decriminalize it all the way. Those who can't deal with life should be smacked around some, thus my comment above.

And now this thread dovetails nicely into the yeast infection thread.
