So one of those door-to-door magazine selling subscription types sold me a subscription to Wizard (yeah, the one about comic books) but now in the mail I see Dave Matthews's lame mug on Spin

should I bother complaining? (I do have contact info i.e. this was not a scam)

no

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 02:09 (twenty-one years ago)

As long as you get yer copy of Wizard, everything should be cool. If you also got a free sub to Spin, thats fine too. Winters comin', you might need fireplace kindling.

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 04:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Spin even SMELLS terrible.

L(E^24) (Leee), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 04:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I have received a free subscription to Spin before, they tend to turn up like a bad penny or an annoying ilm poster.

Nicolars The Insult Comic Librarian (Nicole), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 04:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know that it's free, I'm afraid that the guy who filled out the form put down Spin on accident instead of Wizard.

L(E^24) (Leee), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 05:04 (twenty-one years ago)

He probably put it down on purpose.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 05:04 (twenty-one years ago)

to fuck wit' ya

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 05:05 (twenty-one years ago)

"Haha let's see how this comic book bitch likes these apples! IT'S SPIN FOR YOU BUDDY-BOY!"

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 05:06 (twenty-one years ago)

"no Rogue or Psylocke for you! Wank to Meg White and Karen O instead!"

Jay Dee Sah Mon (Kingfish), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 05:43 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm sure they do that to everyone who buys wizard, figuring no one will say anything. sell them a few similar mags and they'll sit there and love it. hope that spin is all you get.

Dean Gulberry (deangulberry), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 06:35 (twenty-one years ago)

What the...? I got the Dashboard Confessional issue today.

Leee Majors (Leee), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 22:23 (twenty-one years ago)

next you'll get hot hot heat in your living room.

Dean Gulberry (deangulberry), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 22:48 (twenty-one years ago)

and you'll have to move out

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 22:50 (twenty-one years ago)

So you're saying someone came to your door and sold you this magazine. Wow. Did he bump into the iceman on his way out, or was he able to swerve his old-timey bicycle in time?

(I had no idea this was still done.)

brian nemtusak (sanlazaro), Thursday, 13 November 2003 00:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd rather not talk about the specifics of this practice, as I do have a shred of pride.

Leee Majors (Leee), Thursday, 13 November 2003 00:47 (twenty-one years ago)

dude, you bought a subscription to Wizard.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 13 November 2003 00:51 (twenty-one years ago)

OTM

Dean Gulberry (deangulberry), Thursday, 13 November 2003 00:52 (twenty-one years ago)

*dissolves into puddle of goo*

Leee Majors (Leee), Thursday, 13 November 2003 00:59 (twenty-one years ago)

was it a fundraiser (the door-to-door subscription thing)?

when my grandfather died last june, we discovered that he had subscriptions to, of all things, Flare (cdn fashion mag), and Teen People.
He bought the subscriptions as part of a fundraiser for one grandkid or another's badminton team or track team or something. But why Teen People? And why Flare?
Such a curious, curious man.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 13 November 2003 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

he liked the photo spreads?

Jay Dee Sah Mon (Kingfish), Thursday, 13 November 2003 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
This is getting kind of strange: still no sign of comicgeekboy's Wizard, and almost a month without any Spin, now I get TWO issues today. It's like the guy who sold them to me is buying them off the newsstand and forgetting to mail them.

Leee Majors (Leee), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 01:11 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm sure they do that to everyone who buys wizard, figuring no one will say anything. sell them a few similar mags and they'll sit there and love it. hope that spin is all you get.

so i was right? awesome.

Dean Gulberry (deangulberry), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 01:19 (twenty-one years ago)

In other news, I now love The Strokes and The White Stripes.

Leee Majors (Leee), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 01:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Stand still, so I can aim properly. The Strokes??? We'll agree to disagree.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 01:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Any use of The Strokes is purely for comedic purposes.

Leee Majors (Leee), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 19:46 (twenty-one years ago)

"Strokin' and Jokin'" was the story's name, i believe.
