this movie is weird, man. anus aliens, a guy named jonesy, psychic mentally disabled kids, morgan freeman with a grey crew-cut, the stiffest bizarro dialogue I may have ever heard, aliens with british accents...

now I will go back to watching it.

I just watched The Fluffer and it was not the weirdest movie ever. It was quite good, actually.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 05:52 (twenty-one years ago)

anus aliens?

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 06:01 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, they call them "ass weasels" in the movie!

also they say "jonesy" every 5 seconds!

s1utsky (slutsky), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 06:35 (twenty-one years ago)

ok, but is it worth seeing?

(cause you could've described a troma flick)

Dean Gulberry (deangulberry), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 06:44 (twenty-one years ago)

In the book, which isn't great, they call them "shit weasels". Why'd you think they changed it?

(The book is really fucking strange too.)

David A. (Davant), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 07:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Weirder than Blow Up? Weirder than City of Lost Children?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 07:16 (twenty-one years ago)

what's so weird about Blow Up?

hstencil, Tuesday, 11 November 2003 07:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I may be thinking of the wrong movie...I'm drizzunkity!...the one with mimes like totally disappearing/reappearing at random etc?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 07:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I avoid mimes, filmed or otherwise.

hstencil, Tuesday, 11 November 2003 07:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Kind of, but not really, related:

Someone should film House of Leaves. The book was pretty lame, but I'd like to see what someone could do with it visually.

Dreamcatcher was horrendous. I saw it dubbed in German, which granted doesn't help a movie, but this was beyond bad. Although "Jonesy" with a German accent is pretty funny. It's too much of a pastiche, I think, ultimately. It seems to be another S.K. supernatural thriller at first, then turns into a monster-alien flick, then back supernatural, sort of, with the bizarre looking Donny Wahlberg [is this really Marky Mark's brother? Really an ex-New-Kid? Oh time, how cruel!]. And then Donny's an alient too? Huh? Go figure, he looks weird enough. HOOOORRRRRIIIIBBBBLLLLEEEE film.

Ned - ::puts hands on face - oh my! I cannot believe you wanted to see this! was this a rental or a cinemax escape ? but I've actually heard it got great reviews in high-brow publications, go figure

Vic (Vic), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 11:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Worst movie I've seen in a while. English aliens!

Chris Hungus (Chris V), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 12:13 (twenty-one years ago)

was this a rental or a cinemax escape ?

Bought it cheap at a clearance.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh come on, the weirdest movie ever is "Watch the K Foundation Burn a Million Quid", or "Heaven and Earth Magic", or "The Nine Lives of Thomas Katz", or "Don't Touch the White Woman!", or... I haven't seen "Dreamcatcher", but I'm pretty sure it isn't even the weirdest Hollywood flick ever made.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Aw, I was really hoping this was a Garrett Morris movie.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Who's he? Anyway, it's a genuinely weird movie, what with General Custer's last battle with the indians taking place in modern-day Paris. Also, it stars Marcello Mastroianni as Custer and Catherine Deneuve as his lover.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 14:51 (twenty-one years ago)

'con air' is the weirdest film evah. fact.

enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Tuomas, you're right. It's not weird really, by weird standards. It is weird, however, given a relatively big budget and recognizeable stars. I really wonder how things like that get made. It must have sounded dumb even in the pitch meetings.

But Tuomas, more importantly, my brother is leaving tonight for a business trip in Vaasa. He may have a free day. Are there good things to see there or should one go to Helsinki if there's a free day? Thanks!

Skottie, Tuesday, 11 November 2003 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't been to Vaasa for more than a decade, and I was only a child back then. It has a large Swedish-speaking minority, so there it may have more cultural variety than some other city of the same size. The only thing I remember about Vaasa is it's amusement park, but I doubt your brother is interested in that...

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

This was the first book Stephen King actually sat down and wrote after being mangled in a road accident. It's pretty pissed off and unpleasant, maybe understandably. I haven't been that fussed about seeing the film, although Morgan Freeman's always a draw (Bruce Almighty notwithstanding).

Oddly enough, this is the second time Freeman has appeared in an SK adaptation where the character was originally white.

ChrissieH (chrissie1068), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 16:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh well, thanks for the tip, Tuomas! I'll pass it on.

Skottie, Tuesday, 11 November 2003 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

three years pass...
