Taking things (and people) for granted

Further to a comment Vic made on Momus' money-making-talent thread, in which he said "there's a lot that's taken for granted, on a daily basis, without most of us noticing it"

I know I am guilty of this - of feeling vaguely pissed off and dissatisfied at times when I have absolutely no reason to do so.

So in this thread, we all stop for a moment and smell the flowers, and realise that we all have something to be grateful for (or someone to be grateful to) no matter how shit we think things are.

My Bloke thinks the world of me, and there's probably nothing he wouldn't do for me if I asked. I'm going to phone him up right now and tell him how much he means to me.

Gawd, I'm soppy today.

Anyway - what are you taking for granted, and whaddya gonna do about it?

Something I do not take for granted - The NHS.

Yeah, I know, it's imperfect and deeply flawed and it's political and there's all sorts of things wrong with it, but by god, am I glad that it exists. Living in America without health insurance for my entire adult life, and experiencing firsthand Triage By Insurance makes me realise what a thing of wonder the NHS really is and I WOULD BE DEAD were it not for the Royal Free.

And no, I'm not just saying that cause my colleagues are going on another tear again...

So today I am not taking the NHS for granted.

I cannot see past all of the crap at the moment. I do have a wonderful b/f that is true, but he is feeling bad at the moment & I dont know how to help him. I am grateful for having such a great support network.

It's unfortunate, but people in general seem to take things for granted until they go away.

I took my internet access at work for granted until just now when it died. It'll prolly take months to fix and until then I can only get a few mins here and there when there's a free machine and the bosses aint around. This sux ;0(
