RFI: Mouldy Chicken

I put some chicken in a marinade over the weekend, covered it with cling film and left it in the fridge. I went away for longer than I was expecting and so it is still there. It looks and smells absolutely amazing. The marinade was dark (soy, port, tomato puree + more) and the chicken now looks kinda like beef. I really want to try some of it tonight but don't particularly want to get food poisoning. Will it be safe to eat?

How long, Neil? And does the marinade contains preserving substances like oil or vinegar (hmm, a bit of alcohol, I see)?

Chicken smells v nasty v quickly. I reckon you're probably safe if it doesn't smell. You're going to cook it, after all (though do let us know what chicken carpaccio is like if that takes your fancy ;)*)

*obv don't as you'll die

Stupid diet.

I'd say that if it was in marinade in the fridge for 4 days, and you hadn't had a power failure, and it looks and smells good, AND if you cook it, you would be fine. It's the thorough cooking part that's critical.

Wait, it was in the fridge? COOK THAT BAD BOY.

coolio. cheers y'all. No preserving substances other than the alcohol (a LOT). I'm gonna eat it. I think I was going to anyway but I just thought I'd better check.

If you don't hear from me tomorrow......

(hmmmmm, maybe I'll postpone that expensive hiarcut I'm going for tonight or should I go for the good looking corpse? that's a whole other thread....)
