For getting on better than me when they clearly shouldn't.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 22:52 (twenty-one years ago)

For making the world uglier and more difficult than it needs to be.

But maybe I'm wrong.

Ann Sterzinger (Ann Sterzinger), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 23:03 (twenty-one years ago)

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 00:22 (twenty-one years ago)

ok way to make myself sound like a really bad person: i resent people for being boring (to me...i'm sure they're NOT boring) and prettier than me. this leads to me resenting a lot of people. exceptions to this rule are all my friends and most of my friendly acquaintances tho.

Maria (Maria), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 01:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, yes, boring people -- why do they come up to perfect strangers and strike up conversations? Why are they so hard to scrape away without being mean or rude? And why is it necessarily bad to resent boring people?

Ann Sterzinger (Ann Sterzinger), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 03:03 (twenty-one years ago)

i resent people who are having more sex than me < / why i hate the world >

Vic (Vic), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 03:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Because other people are generally disappointing

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 03:29 (twenty-one years ago)

they breathe

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 03:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I resent people who think their shit doesn't stink. I resent people who think they can treat me like shit and I'll just be a perfectly yielding doormat to them in response. I resent people who seem to have things so much better than I have them, but this reason seems to always be temporary, as I always find reasons to not resent them. I resent people who think they're too [fill in the blank] to talk to me or to treat me like a decent human being.

Everyone else, I feel incredibly happy about. *hugs everyone else*

Pancakes For Breakfast! (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 03:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yes, and I have been known to make the people I resent cry at perfectly inopportune times -- for the other people, that is.

Pancakes For Breakfast! (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 03:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I resent people who have never had to work for their advantages/privileges, have always had life handed to them on a silver platter. Usually forgivable once I get to know a person, unless they turn out to be boring/stupid/other things mentioned in this thread.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 03:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Indeed. There are so many, many reasons to resent those people.

When do you try very hard to control your resentment?

I try very hard to recognize and defang the emotion when I realize I'm feeling resentful because the other person seems to be smarter or better at heart than I am.

The hardest part of that is, actually, figuring out what's going on. "Oh... it's NOT just the way he's buttoned his sleeves that's getting to me, is it?"

Ann Sterzinger (Ann Sterzinger), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 03:50 (twenty-one years ago)

When do you try very hard to control your resentment?
I don't really have to try, other than to not yell and curse when the fucker in a Hummer cuts me off in traffic.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 03:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean try to control what it's doing inside your head, not just "don't kill anyone"... actually it seems resentment, when you can't -- or don't feel you should -- eliminate it becomes less poisonous if you do express it.

Ann Sterzinger (Ann Sterzinger), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 04:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I resent people who spit in public.

bnw (bnw), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 04:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I hate that! so much.

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 04:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I resent multitudes but presently I focus on people that obligate you. They proposition you to do something that you could easily flat-out refuse, but since they're your "friends" (and possibly you're in the company of other "friends") you don't refuse it because that would make you seem cheap, not much fun, uncaring, etc. If you waver for a second this "friend" will exclaim "It's completely fine if you don't want to!" in a tone that amplifies the fact that he thinks the opposite.

Dancing Queen, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 05:09 (twenty-one years ago)

all those people who talk and write here about goofing off when they should be working whilst i'm sat here unemployed gets to me sometimes. not that i didn't do it myself when i was working...

koogs (koogs), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I resent people who have succeeded at things I have failed at. I resent people who remind me of my own failures. I resent people who do less work than me who get more rewards than me. I resent people who share the same character flaws as me, and I resent people who appear to be perfect even more.

Right now I am in a supremely cranky mood, so I'm resenting everyone.

Citizen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 10:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I especially hate people who talk about the "moral high ground" while conducting themselves in other ways that are totally repugnant to me.

I hate people who use their own moral or political superiority as a stick to beat other people who are not as "developped" with.

Citizen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 10:07 (twenty-one years ago)

They spent £25 on FCUK T-shirts YOU VAPID CUNTS

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 13:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I resent people just for being around most of the time. I am much more of a misanthropic cudmudgeon than I originally thought I was.

Nicolars (Nicole), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 14:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I resent some people for being successful in endeavors that I am far more qualified in.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

For having done lots of stuff better than me, continuing to do so, whilst I am stupid. And for being thin. Bugger.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)
