this board is fuckin depressing. seriously, for the most part, if i come here and read posts, i become more emotionally distraught. ive lurked for a long time now, but i can longer do it. no, it's not just me skipping a day of medication. on a good week when i am chemically balanced, this board still brings me the fuck down for the most part. the lives here are just too real. the discussion is: am i the only one? what emotional state does this board bring you?

um, cheers?

long time lurker, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

when come back bring pie.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

If it is fucking depressing then don't look at it! maybe you could post more?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha ha, but even if you take the board off your bookmarks, you can still get here by starting to type I...L...X... in your address bar. And emptying your history doesn't help either. You still end up back here. The only way to leave is to have yourself banned, or have no more internet access! I speak from experience!

(I have gone through periods of hating and denying my ILX addiction, and now I've just come through to acceptance.)

Citizen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Sweet Caroline....good times never seemed so good.......

how can loving everything be depressing??

ken c, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Kate is correct, unfortunately. When it comes to ilx I always feel like Al Pacino in the Godfather 3.

Nicolars (Nicole), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, it's better than feeling like Al Pacino 2003. ;-)

nathalie (nathalie), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

This is true! If I was, I WOULD BE RUNNING AROUND SHOUTING AND OVERACTING AT ALL TIMES.

Which I do enough of as it is.

Nicolars (Nicole), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

this board still brings me the fuck down for the most part. the lives here are just too real

Actually, this part really bothers me about this statement. Would you be happier with us if our lives were LESS real?

Citizen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 13:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe everyone's enjoyment of the board would be enhanced if we pretended to be gummi bears.

Nicolars (Nicole), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Can I pretend to be an artificially intelligent supercomputer instead?

(Oh wait, I wouldn't have to pretend. Damn!)

Citizen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

MAYB IF WA AL JUST PRET3NDAD 2 B TW3LVA YAAR OLD AOL USARS INSTEAD!!!!!11 WTF LOL

That will work.

Nicolars (Nicole), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Speaking like yoda, you are

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Bunch of damn dork? Could you please translate that into English?

I don't think we've had a good thread about Dams and river/sea manipulation and engineering yet!

Citizen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 14:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Apart from the one where we re-route the Thames via Camden, Kate. That was pretty good.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 14:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I missed that one! What, using the old Fleet River bed, or did we just want a general flood to wash away the scum and the filth and the goths?

Citizen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 14:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Dams, Dykes and othe Hydrological Engineering Structures and Schemes

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

!!!!!!!

I should have searched before I made that assumption. I bow in awe and go off to read the thread...

Citizen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I hate you americans. You never take anything seriously.

long time lurker, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 14:16 (twenty-two years ago)

haha!

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Pink: have to look to post. sorry i don't post willy-nilly.
Kate: if it's not in my bookmark i will forget about it eventually. as far as the reality of life on this board, you missed my point. but thanks for jumping the gun. the supercomputer comment is very witty.

long time lurker, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, Do not tar me with that brush.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I hate you americans.

ha ha Kate and Ed to thread

x-post

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmm, I think you'd get a better response if you actually explained why you find the board so depressing (apart from our lives being 2 REAL)..

Baaderist (Fabfunk), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)

We are not Americans. Hence we take *everything* seriously and quite literally. Now I'm off to discuss engineering works with Ed! Woo!

Citizen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you more depressed by the theory discussions or the dirty jokes?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

The dirty theory discussions more likely.

Citizen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey guys, POV things to put in your mouth!!! OMG!1! 4 R-E-A-L WTF!!

Baaderist (Fabfunk), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Your search - Derrida pants - did not match any documents.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

i think it would be better if you took ilx off your bookmarks, its not making you happy, to be honest, you would be better off without it. there are many other interesting sites on the internet at the moment, particularly on politics, football and (for me) abandoned buildings. i think if you spent the time you now spend looking at ilx at those sites, it would probably be considerably less depressing for you, and you would forget all about ilx pretty quickly. alternatively, if you are not trapped at work, i think going shopping, or going out for a beer, or maybe to do a couple pills at a club, are things you might enjoy more than ilx. or possibly joining a local football team for a kickabout.

good luck!

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

When did Gareth become all sensible and reasonable, like?

Citizen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

He's always been sensible and reasonable! I have missed the gareth philosophy in his absence.

Nicolars (Nicole), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 14:32 (twenty-two years ago)

PLUR!

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 14:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Baaderist, no, i don't think i would get a better reponse. the sudden jump to the lifeless state of a supercomputer is just a small indication. the point: the emotional state the board brought out in you.

wow, i also notice i have a clone. god, you guys are great!

me: 0
you: 1

long time lurker, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 14:33 (twenty-two years ago)

When did "unhappy people should pill up in a nightclub" become sensible and reasonable advice?????

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

thanky you, charltonlido. advice taken.

long time lurker, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 14:35 (twenty-two years ago)

my thoughts too dan, ;

this board helps me alot, or rather the people I've come to know here do. I like it.

but maybe we should start treating it like a nanorimo project?

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

What I meant was if you don't like it why don't you post a thread that you might like? Or why have you lurked for so long?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I lurk because i lost my pants. really. thats the truth. what a dumb question, Pinkpanther. Shit.

long time lurker, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 17:26 (twenty-two years ago)

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

to or of?

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 18:16 (twenty-two years ago)

long term lurker may or may not be correct, regarding, the need to grow up a little, it is difficult to say. on the other hand it might be necessary to retain a certain level of childishness in order to not become too uptight. i agree though, finding the right balance isnt always so easy.

i am not entirely clear why long term lurker is concerned, or even interested, in other posters need to grow up or not, especially on a board he is not so happy on. i think it might be more beneficial, long term lurker, to leave ilx behind, as it is particularly annoying for you. personally, if i were you, i would forget all about jess and ned, its not really very important whether they grow up or not, it wont really make any difference to the way you feel i think.

have you made any moves to improving things yet? (ideally you should never see this post, hopefully you have already moved on to better things, i think it would be a shame if you hadnt been able to initiate any changes yet)

good luck!
