Pessary: Classic or Dud

Pessary is such a fantastic word, it seems so religious. But isn't it just a fancy word for something we already have? So are Pessaries good things, and if not what should we make the word mean?

I was just thinking what a marvellous word it was when I typed it back there on everyone's favourite yeast infection thread. But I don't understand this question - "a fancy word for something we already have"?

PS I think it seems religious cos it sounds a little bit like 'rosary'.

Okay, vaginal suppository is two words I guess.

[light dawns] I didn't think of suppository. Or 'suppository', I suppose. Not thinking of suppositories = good thing, on the whole. In that case, you're right: pessary should be reclaimed for a higher purpose. A poetic tract on the meaning of life, maybe? A love poem ('I wrote this pessary to show you how much I care about you')? Definitely poetry.

Earplugs. Eardrops. Earwigs.

Pessary is a small town in the Cotswolds, near Kidderminster.
