MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:00 (twenty-two years ago)

enrique - are you still here? what's happened at work? we need an update!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I didn't watch Newsnight. Someone care to explain?

Citizen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:01 (twenty-two years ago)

is it ANY ACCIDENT that spooks is like the worst thing on TV ever? clearly the "powers that be" wanted us not to know something!

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:01 (twenty-two years ago)

mark you are so otm it hurts. DON'T ANSWER THE PHONE.

Alex K (Alex K), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:03 (twenty-two years ago)

can anyone explain why spooks (as mark says clearly awful) got a BAFTA? is it related to the problem of James Lance still getting acting work?

Alan (Alan), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:04 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, they showed the scene in Spooks when a president comes to the UK on Newsnight to say how similar this was to the real visit by Bush. I think the person who came across best on the programme was Ken Livingstone who not only pointed out that ppl have a democratic right to protest in a way that Bush can see them protesting, but also that it was not only impractical to shut 3 square miles of London down but w/ be economically disastrous as well.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Remind me again why we have to have Bush here at all?

Citizen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:07 (twenty-two years ago)

apparently he's our ally.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:08 (twenty-two years ago)

How about we get ALLY to come to the UK instead! That would rock! She'd be a MUCH better representative!

Citizen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

what does Our Ally think of this?

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

if you do a ggl img srch for Bush is our Ally, you get this

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I will demonstrate until Ally comes to the UK. Right outside 10 Downing St. Maybe I'll even drive a truck into it. Or even better, a Transformer Truck Robot.

Citizen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Do you think Bush runs around at G8 summits screaming "stop starting threads about me Horace!"?

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Kate, not only do we have to have the bugger here, his 'people' seem to think they can shout the odds as to where citizens of another sovereign nation can gather at any given time *AND* they expect the British government to pay for it all, too. The whole thing is a State visit which means staying with the Queen and lots of wonderfully timely photo ops with good old Lilibet and Phil the Greek just in time for the 2004 elections. He quite simply doesn't want demonstrators ruining the shots.

Ken Livingston better not bite the bullet on this one just to get back with Labour; he's doing a great job sticking up for the 60 per cent of Londoners who do not want the squinty-eyed inbred fucker turning our city into a terrorist target.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes. Yes I do.

Citizen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Argh, that yes was to Horace.

Citizen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I was thinking about the similarities yesterday too. Although the spooks version had the president getting 'lost' and supposedly arranging an agreement over compensation for the lockerbie bombings without the brits being involved, didn't it? Or am I mixing my episodes?

I thought spooks was great! But not as great as the sound clip of Ken dryly stating that we hadn't had a prime minister assasinated for x number of years.

Vicky (Vicky), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:17 (twenty-two years ago)

we don't have newsnight out in the scrub, so no, it was an entirely original observation derived from my listening to the world service on a crackly, makeshift radio...

this ain't the mudd club
or cbgbs
i ain't got time for that now

enrique (Enrique), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:17 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, everyone to Cambridge whilst Bush invades London!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

no, that's right. 'spooks' micturates upon '24'.

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

i seem to recall the chinese leader putting up with the protests a couple of years ago (although they got a bit nasty, that was the good old british bobbies' fault, i think), which makes Bush WORSE THAN A DESPOTIC UNELECTED STALINIST. i might even have to go and shout at him myself now ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude, the guy already lost a popularity contest with SADDAM HUSSEIN - you know, the Devil Himself from those South Park cartoons. Do you really think that comparisons with a Chinese diplomat is going to bother him?

Citizen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

if he knows what 'china' or indeed 'diplomacy' are. mark -- is 'tinker, tailor' no goodski? i've never seen.

enrique (Enrique), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

saddam's not the devil, the devil is saddam's bitch, innit ;)
