Inspired by the sleepy thread, what stuffed animal did you have growing up? how long did you hang on to it to?

I had a big Snoopy. Two of them, actually, since one kinda distengrated over time. Slept with him until age 11 or so.

and you? C'mon, admit your twee past(or present)!

A stuffed Curious George.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

a handmade stuffed kitty, given to my by a friend, named Melanie. She still hangs out by the bed.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

stuffed animals are very much part of my present! most recent addition to the jbr collection: a big cuddly sheep.

atomic horseradish (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

3 bears and an elephant. The elephant smelt of lavender.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

How long did you all hang on to them, tho?

Jay Dee Sah Mon (Kingfish), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I had an orange & white elephant that my dad gave me, i always cuddled that when I went to bed. And also this green coloured rabbit.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

you know, I can't remember exactly. The little bear is still at my parents' house. He sits on their mantelpiece. Apparently I once threw him out of the pram outside the greengrocers and he was presumed lost forever, but someone picked him up and took him into the greengrocers, where he sat nestled between some grapefruit for ages before my mother noticed him.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

hmm i don't remember when Curious George went away. I also had a stuffed Bert from Ernie and Bert. My mother is obsessed with cleanliness and washed him one day. His bert-brow fell off and she drew one on him with a sharpie.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

My son has good stuffies; his favorite is a stuffed panda that's bigger than he is. I don't like it so much cuz it was a gift from a girl who broke my heart and I am reminded of her every time he busts it out.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

A large stuffed horsehead (family present after my mum was obsessed with The Godfather) which I unfortunately lost upon moving to England. :-(

Now I am constantly being inundated with HSA's owl collection. We are trying to train them to perch on the bookshelves, but they want to get in on the orgy with Scooby Doo and Bubbles PPG.

Citizen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

when i was a kid i had a yellow blanket cleverly named 'blankey'. it's in a drawer at my parents.

in high school i had a 3-foot tall winnie the pooh. i sleep with it when i visit.

in university i was given 'vibrating pooh', which was a winnie the pooh for babies. when you squeeze his belly, he vibrates. it's so soothing. you hardly notice until it stops and you feel a deep sense of loss...

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

A large stuffed horsehead (family present after my mum was obsessed with The Godfather)

hands up from whomever else thinks this might explain something...

Jay Dee Sah Mon (Kingfish), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Currently residing in my bed we have a talking Pikachu, White Bear and Floppy Dog(g). I never call him F-Dawg. BUT I MIGHT JUST START NOW!

(Also a billion BOOKS, isn't it great being single and having a double bed? Loads of space for books and cuddly toys!)

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I swear I've explained it somewhere before on ILX... but yeah. Exactly what it sounds like. My mum was obsessed with the Godfather. So I got a stuffed horsehead to put in my bed for Xmas.

Citizen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I had a quite realistic chimpanzee, a round mouse, couple of dogs, another monkey which had gray hair, a big teddy bear (which was older than I am), a fox, etc, etc. I can't really recall them all. The only one of those that's still left is the round mouse, because my mom took all the other stuffed animals to the kindergarten where she works without asking me. I was pissed off when I found that out.

Nowadays I have, besides the round mouse, another mouse of the puppet variety called "Elisabet", a lion who's name is "John the Small", a pig that says something in Estonian, and a gay gorilla.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

How do you know the gorilla is gay?

Citizen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Adam Ant told him.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

He has track pants, a leather vest and a leather uniform cap of the S/M type. I call him Günther.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Kinky Gorilla!

Citizen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Vic (Vic), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

(Another proof that I was born into a wrong body: I seem to be the only guy here who still has stuffed animals by his bed.)

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I had a panda that was bigger than me aswell.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

HSA has loads of stuffed animals! An almost disturbing amount of stuffed animals, Tuomas, so worry not.

Citizen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I have Finnegan, like from Mr. Dressup. He had buttons for eyes, until I pulled them off and ate them. He was made for me by a resident at the mental hospital that my dad used to work at.

Jodi (Celerina), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

It would be best for everyone if I didn't post to this thread, I think.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

When I was younger I had a pink and white teddy bear, a koala, and a honey-colored teddy bear who I called George. I have no idea why I didn't give the other bears names. I don't have them anymore, I wish I could find them -- I know they must be stored away some place at my parents' house.

Nicolars (Nicole), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 17:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I was expecting another wanking thread, with pictures of penknife cut holes in the back end of eurodisney mickey mouse dolls.

Back in 1959, when my adoptive parents picked me up at a few weeks old, they brought a little white teddy bear with them, as my first teddy. Either they or I, later, named him Cuddly, and I loved him dearly.

As for how long did I keep him, you have to be kidding. He's upstairs now. It's several decades since he shared the bed with me, but he is still in the room, rather worn, almost threadbear (ha ha) in places. I don't notice him more than once every few months, but I am pleased I still have him.

A very old and wise penguin. Little worse for the wear these days, but still looking out for things from the top of my bookcase. Accompanied these days by a small anteater, an armadillo, a platypus, and a Domo Kun.

kephm, Thursday, 13 November 2003 17:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I had a seal with no eyes called Zizzy, about a dozen classic-style teddy bears in various sizes, a squashy ET with a glowing finger!, a 'best bear' called Louise... and loads of others. They all stopped being played with and slept next to around the age of 11. Apart from Louise who went to uni with me and was hugged mericlessly at times of rejection and PMS.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 13 November 2003 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

my ex has a stuffed elephant Marcella(from Babar, i think), that she sleeps with to this day.

Jay Dee Sah Mon (Kingfish), Thursday, 13 November 2003 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I had/still have a yellow Popple named Potato Chip (hello, 80's!). Nowadays he is joined by Tiny from the Clangers that my English ex-boyfriend gave me last year.

Sarah Pedal (call mr. lee), Thursday, 13 November 2003 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

nine years pass...

This would be a very different kind of thread these days

Bel-Air the Fresh Prince, sitting in a chair (DJP), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 23:24 (twelve years ago)

my oldest stuffed animal was a small stuffed winnie the pooh that played a music box-style version of the theme song when you turned a little key in the back. the last time i found him at my mom's house, i was amazed to find that the song still plays. should probably rescue him and bring him home next time, before my mom's new dog has a chance to chew him up.

(The Other) J.D. (J.D.), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 23:28 (twelve years ago)

one time when i was about 15 or 16 my sister posed my beloved childhood koala bear on my bed with sunglasses, a cigarette in it's hand, a safety pin through it's ear and a sign that said "messiahwannabe will play with me again now that i'm cool" and felt really really horribly guilty for like a month afterwards

messiahwannabe, Wednesday, 30 January 2013 08:41 (twelve years ago)

Was this the happiest ILX thread?

(obviously, there is sadness now..)

Mark G, Wednesday, 30 January 2013 09:36 (twelve years ago)

My favorite of all time was a toy bush baby. I think I just called him Bush Baby. He had a very long tail and I would usually play with him by swinging him around in circles by it. One day, on the way into church, I was swinging Bush Baby around by his tail when the stitching came undone and the stuffed animal flew off into the air, leaving me holding just the tail. The horror and despair! My mom was able to sew him back together, "but no more spinning" she said. I still slept with him at night for a while, but that was the end of an era for Bush Baby.

how's life, Wednesday, 30 January 2013 09:57 (twelve years ago)

When I was about 13 I had two stuffed smiley faces - no body, just a head, but that was all I had so I slept with them. I later cuddled a 2nd pillow in bed, which didn't look like any playful animal but felt good with the lights out. I wanted it to be real....

Lee626, Wednesday, 30 January 2013 12:28 (twelve years ago)

Best Bun. a grey rabbit that a lady up the road made for me when I was born. 35 years ago and still in one, albeit fraying and balding, piece. My son has him now, would be quite nice if his stitches stay together for the next generation.
