i know this super creepy guy who used to come to the coffehouse i worked at everyday with a copy of leaves of grass. he would thumb through it and try to look pensive and introspective. he actually just lookes pompous. he wears a black leather jacket year round. he then starting appearing everywhere in my neighborhood. because of his constant shady lurking, subsequent snubbing from my roomates and myself, and the following death threats, we have changed his nickname from "leaves of grass" to "chop us into bits". i don't think walt would approve.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Thursday, 13 November 2003 06:48 (twenty-one years ago)

petra jane (petra jane), Thursday, 13 November 2003 08:26 (twenty-one years ago)

That Doty poem so annoyingly "poetic" that it's difficult to read it to see if there's any interesting thought behind it.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 13 November 2003 08:37 (twenty-one years ago)

But yes, Whitman is a keeper.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 13 November 2003 08:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Let's not forget the Walt Whitman rest area on the New Jersey Turnpike.

Hurting (Hurting), Saturday, 12 February 2005 03:38 (twenty years ago)

it's very important that you look at that.

f--gg (gcannon), Saturday, 12 February 2005 03:39 (twenty years ago)

OMG that was hilarious.

The "El Nino" essay on the same site is much funnier, and unlike the Whitman essayist, this kids doesn't sound like he's trying to be a smartass.

Hurting (Hurting), Saturday, 12 February 2005 03:49 (twenty years ago)

I was about to complain about the damn Doty poem, which seemed vaguely familiar, and then I realized I already complained about it above. Let me state again that the Doty poem is a heap of crap.

I don't believe that the Whitman paper is real.
