*Slap*

Have you ever slapped someone? properly? as opposed to in a joking way? It never feels natural to slap somebody when I'm angry. I always thought it only happens in films.

Does it feel good? Do you regret it afterwards?

ken c, Thursday, 13 November 2003 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

The only time for me probably was the time when I slapped a girl when I was 12 in retaliation cos she slapped me, she cried for 2 hours and I felt shit afterwards.

She was okay in the end though, in fact if it was a film we'd probably have snogged afterwards but I was young and naive.

ken c, Thursday, 13 November 2003 13:43 (twenty-two years ago)

When I was about 14 I slapped a boy cos he asked to see my tits! (his words not mine)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 13 November 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I know I've slapped people in the past. I can't really recall the circumstances cause I was drunk.

The only sober slap I ever recall was slapping my psycho ex, mid-freak out, because I was genuinely scared that he was going to hurt either himself or me if he didn't "snap out of it". Which he did. (Of course, after that, he went around telling everyone that I beat him. Sigh.)

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 13 November 2003 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

But he asked, Pinky. Most of us don't bother ;)

(related question - if a girl slaps her boyfriend, is he under any circumstances allowed to slap her back?)

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 13 November 2003 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I've never slapped anyone in my entire life.

C J (C J), Thursday, 13 November 2003 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I've never slapped anyone and I can't remember ever being slapped (uh, on my face). I definitely got my share of spankings.

I never feel like hitting or slapping when I'm angry. I just want to get away from the person upsetting me. Ooh! I like to yell alot though.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 13 November 2003 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

He had white blonde hair mark, for that there is no excuse!

Perhaps if the girl is hysterical, so it wouldnt be a slap as in 'i am pissed off with you *slap*' though.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 13 November 2003 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I do have a very strong urge to slap people or otherwise hit them when they upset me. (I suspect that this is a conditioned response to being spanked and/or slapped as a kid during corporal punnishment so much.) I actually do have to actively fight these urges, which is possibly why I have such strong feelings about being a pacifist - because I know how *easy* it is to spill into violence over the least provocations. This is an animal instinct which needs to be fought.

A few months ago, I had a quite serious argument. The other person actually grabbed me by the throat and started shouting. Honestly, I just started to see red, and I was very scared that I was going to go out of control and hit him back. Through sheer effort of will, I forced myself to stay calm, and say, very slowly and carefully "Take your hands off me or I am calling the police."

There's a whole nother different set of panic reactions I go into in this situation now...

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 13 November 2003 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I think if your life is being threatened (as in kate's case) you have more than a valid reason to get medieval on their ass!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 13 November 2003 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I've never slapped anyone either. I have been slapped a number of times tho. Only once by a parent as a form of corporal punishment - by my Mum for saying "fuck" in front of her when I was nine.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 13 November 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

haha i slapped sw3llsy on the back of the head during an argt when he wz being irritating!

then he punched me on the arm really hard bcz i hadn't "shown respect for violence" :(

this wz friendly testosterone stuff tho

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 13 November 2003 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Last weekend, my ex showed up at my house drunk and enraged with about a new girl I was hanging out with. I was slapped, punched, and there was an attempted strangling. But, I did not and would never have slapped or hit her back. I had to physically restrain her until she calmed down a couple of times, but hitting a lady is something I will never do.

Dale the Titled (cprek), Thursday, 13 November 2003 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I might have when I was a kid -- I was always ending up getting involved in petty squabbles -- but if I did I don't remember it now.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 13 November 2003 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Dale that is admirable. I wish more men were like that.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 13 November 2003 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I wish women wouldn't assault me.

Dale the Titled (cprek), Thursday, 13 November 2003 14:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I slapped my brother a couple of times when we used to have args.

I regretted it.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 13 November 2003 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

When I was like 7 or 8 I wound up and punched this neighbourhood just like they do in the movies, for no better reason than I wanted see what it was like. For some moronic reason, I chose the older neighbourhood kid, who then gave me a beaten I'm still smarting from.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 13 November 2003 14:36 (twenty-two years ago)

*beating*

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 13 November 2003 14:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Pink, my life wasn't in danger. It was an attention getting ploy. To have responded would have escalated it into a physical argument. To respond calmly denies the attention, proves that this is not an effective method of conflict, and breaks the cycle so that it will not happen again.

I know, in the past, that there has been a certain amount of complicity on my part when relationships became abusive. It takes two to make a fight, and I will *never* let anyone provoke me/prpvoke anyone else into that again.

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 13 November 2003 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh right, sorry I obv didnt know the situ (or background) so apols.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 13 November 2003 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I tend to give people playful pats on the cheek but I apparently don't know my own strength because sometimes it makes a big SLAP noise and they tell me it hurts. I seem to be some kind of unintentional hulk girl. I haven't hit anyone in anger for getting on for 20 years.

I have been properly slapped twice, once by a school bully called Zoe who was promptly suspended and once, about a year ago, by my sister, who is a mentalist. She caught the edge of my glasses and the bridge bashed into my nose and gave me an unseemly bruise.

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 13 November 2003 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Does slapping someone's arse count?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 13 November 2003 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

why don't you come over here and find out?

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 13 November 2003 14:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Flirt-slaps, especially of the ass, and playful slaps of the ass don't count. I slap HSA's ass all the time when he misbehaves! (I sometimes think he misbehaves on purpose!)

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 13 November 2003 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

if you do it on purpose, it's misbehaving, if you do it not on purpose, it's being a fuck-up.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 13 November 2003 14:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I have shoved and maybe as a child hit people in anger, but hitting in the face is the most confrontational and scary thing you can do in a fight obv., and I have never done it or had it done to me. That I can remember.

However I have had my collarbone broken by someone, and (unrelatedly)possibly scarred a member of El3ctr3lane for life, though my memory is hazy on that one too.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 13 November 2003 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Har har, If I did not have such strong feelings about the criticism/personal injury dichotomy thing, then I would make some comment about "ha ha you should have done more than psychologically damaged El3ctr@l@n3!"

Citizen Kate (kate), Thursday, 13 November 2003 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Haven't hit someone in ages, years really. I'm sure I threw a few digs in stupid fights in primary school, but these days I diffuse the situation as far as possible.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 13 November 2003 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't ever been slapped either, not that I recall.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 13 November 2003 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

If we're talking non-playful slaps then no, I've never been so, uhm, outraged. I have hit someone, but that was in a fight and wasn't a slap. Been slapped myself more times than I care to remember tho. My mum slapped me once - whap, right across the face, hard. I think I said something very rude to her (not a proposition, I might add) but I can't remember what. I have a childish habit of saying exactly the wrong thing just to see what happens. Usually, I get slapped.

Alex K (Alex K), Thursday, 13 November 2003 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I slap my thigh upon occasion.

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 13 November 2003 15:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I've never been slapped, but there have been a couple of attempts (I've got fast reflexes I guess). Actually, once was a similar situation to Dale's, and I just sort of went into a ball to minimize my damage, and didn't hit back - just let her simmer down instead.

I've never hit anyone in any way, and I've only been properly punched once - in grade 5 by my 'best friend'. He hit me hard in the face and then mysteriously ran away. I was declared the 'victor' by the assembled crowd. I had a SERIOUS shiner afterwards. We were friends again a few hours later.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 13 November 2003 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I was slapped in the face by my first serious girlfriend. I deserved it.

Me and one of my friends have taken to smacking each other when we're drunk, kinda like Fight Club but more like Drunken Idiots Slapping Each Other Club.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 13 November 2003 17:03 (twenty-two years ago)

The first rule of the Drunken Idiots Slapping Each Other Club is that you don't talk about the Drunken Idiots Slapping Each Other Club.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 13 November 2003 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I slapped someone once when I was very drunk because he kept grabbing me and I was getting fed up. The only other time I have hit anyone was a few years ago, coming out of a restaurant/bar and I saw a man hitting his girlfriend, so I ran over and punched him to get him off her and broke my hand.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 13 November 2003 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I chose the older neighbourhood kid

Were there only two neighbourhood kids to choose from where you grew up?

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 13 November 2003 17:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Once I threw a drink in my friend's face.

s1utsky (slutsky), Thursday, 13 November 2003 17:14 (twenty-two years ago)

some friends and i were coming home from some party with 4 bottles of absolut in our hands, and my roommate, who i think took a few too many drugs, passed out in the middle of the sidewalk, so I started slapping him to see if he would wake up. Boy was that fun.

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 13 November 2003 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

While I would never argue against Dale's attitude, and while I have never even felt slightly tempted to hit a woman, and I am optimistic of that continuing for the rest of my life, and while I think that the proportion of cases of a man hitting a woman that are not completely wrong and intolerable probably approaches 100%...

Having said all that, I would never say that it is always wrong for a man to hit a woman. I'm not offering complete impunity to anyone to do what they want in the way of harm to me with no risk of any retaliation. My ex, for instance, was a pretty strong woman who had taught some self-defence classes. If she had gone psycho in a physical way I think I'm strong enough to have restrained her without having to get violent, but I have my doubts. I should add that she never showed any sign of doing this, and play-fighting was absurdly one-sided.

I can't remember ever slapping anyone, nor have I been in any kind of fight in years.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 13 November 2003 20:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I've slapped male friends in semi-joking circumstances, but I've never given or received a real honest slap.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 13 November 2003 20:58 (twenty-two years ago)

two years pass...
Man sentenced for ride-by bottom slap.

Obviously, this isn't funny, but I really would like to see all the Colombian TV news "re-enactments of the incident".

Alba (Alba), Monday, 27 February 2006 14:18 (twenty years ago)

No, they're right. The punnishment doesn't fit the crime.

The punnishment for random bottom slapping should be disembowelment. >:-(

Boris and the Johnsons (kate), Monday, 27 February 2006 14:22 (twenty years ago)

Although I am very fond of saying that X needs a slap, I rarely have the inclination or opportunity to follow it up.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 27 February 2006 14:25 (twenty years ago)

random bottom slapping

How do you know it was random? He might have singled her out quite purposefully!

Alba (Alba), Monday, 27 February 2006 14:28 (twenty years ago)

one girl pinched by bum at school. i tried to rally a call to have her fanny mutilated but no dice :(

ken c (ken c), Monday, 27 February 2006 14:37 (twenty years ago)

i don't know whether it was random or not

ken c (ken c), Monday, 27 February 2006 14:38 (twenty years ago)

You loved it really.

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Monday, 27 February 2006 14:39 (twenty years ago)

I've had my bum pinched a few times. I think people were just checking I had one.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 27 February 2006 14:41 (twenty years ago)

whether i loved it or not is not the issue steve!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 27 February 2006 14:42 (twenty years ago)

you mean you wanted her mutilated for some other reason? you monster

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Monday, 27 February 2006 14:43 (twenty years ago)

(Of course, after that, he went around telling everyone that I beat him. Sigh.)

I have a feeling this happens a lot... It's always the other person's fault, isn't it.

KylieNomigue, Monday, 27 February 2006 14:44 (twenty years ago)

xpost

it's the disrespect for people's bum that is the issue here don't you understand steve????????????????????????????????

ken c (ken c), Monday, 27 February 2006 14:48 (twenty years ago)

i think she respected your arse and that's why she decided to pinch it. should've asked for permission beforehand though of course.
