westjet has grey cup special, $9 each way from Regina to Mtl for this weekend...

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 13 November 2003 20:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Eh, moi, je ne comprends pas le, eh, how do you say, eh, "ze grey cup special"?

Frenchie LaRue (Nick A.), Thursday, 13 November 2003 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

athletic support

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 13 November 2003 20:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Grey Cup is Canada's Super Bowl, it's in Regina this weekend (and you thought we had Thanksgiving early!) and since there are all these planes coming in from Montreal (whose Allouettes are playing in the classic vs Edmonton) and leaving empty and then vice versa afterwards, airlines are like, hey, what the fuck?

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 13 November 2003 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

don't all offer up yr divans at once...

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 13 November 2003 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

i read your post and went to the airport and went thru all the booking thing and it came to $150 in total and then she said oh it's a web-only offer and i said, oh. and i came home and i don't have a credit card and i feel kind of disappointed because i wanted to go. and i called my mom and asked if i could use her credit card and they were all sold out.

d k (d k), Thursday, 13 November 2003 22:25 (twenty-one years ago)

you should come! NINE dollars?! I'm super-busy this wknd tho unfortunately...

s1utsky (slutsky), Thursday, 13 November 2003 23:09 (twenty-one years ago)

dang, all sold out!
Yeah, comes to $150 after all the airport tax and security surcharges, but basically that's all you'd be paying.

HuckleberryMann, Thursday, 13 November 2003 23:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Jeepers and I thought NY to Toronto for 20 bucks or whatever was cheap. And yet NONE of the NYers came. Oh well, their loss.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 13 November 2003 23:38 (twenty-one years ago)

two years pass...
Dudes. I've already e-mailed rrrobyn and slocki about this, so maybe this is redundant, but I will be in your fair city from April 28 through May 2. We should, uh, hang out and stuff.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 20 March 2006 18:05 (nineteen years ago)

sweet!!
Terrastock one wkend, jaymc visit the next - late April, you are pretty awesome.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Monday, 20 March 2006 19:23 (nineteen years ago)

WOOHOO

slightly too bad about the timing though as i am doing a party on april 22 & may 5!

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 20 March 2006 19:25 (nineteen years ago)

partIES

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 20 March 2006 19:25 (nineteen years ago)

We will have to have another party then, hello.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Monday, 20 March 2006 19:29 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah exactly!

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 20 March 2006 19:35 (nineteen years ago)

Also, tell me things to do.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 20 March 2006 19:35 (nineteen years ago)

I would still like to visit at some point. But I cannot visit when J. is visiting. Perhaps in early June.

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 20 March 2006 19:40 (nineteen years ago)

As in your schedule does not permit it, or you are taking pains to avoid me?

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 20 March 2006 19:41 (nineteen years ago)

'serveuses nues' breakfast in hochelaga?

superultramega (superultramarinated), Monday, 20 March 2006 21:01 (nineteen years ago)

I don't even know what that means! Does it involve getting on a train de banlieue?
But EATING FOOD is a big thing to do here omg mmm.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Monday, 20 March 2006 21:06 (nineteen years ago)

I think R.'s post is in like three different languages.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 20 March 2006 21:09 (nineteen years ago)

It is! french/english/mohawk, in that order.

superultramega (superultramarinated), Monday, 20 March 2006 21:16 (nineteen years ago)

hahaha! We live in a crazy place, eh? (I just said that with a Quebecer accent ohgod.)
But is Hochelaga nice? We should talk about this on the radio tonight (if I still have my voice.)

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Monday, 20 March 2006 21:24 (nineteen years ago)

okay, the Hochelaga breakfast experience involves partial nudity. (hence the word "nues". Memory like a frickin sieve here, sorry. But then, I don't tend to remember things I have little interest in... Mtl also has some strip clubs with buffets. I just. What? Shrug.)

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 18:24 (nineteen years ago)

That timing conflicts with school. But you should go about leaving presents for me everywhere.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 18:33 (nineteen years ago)

Can you explain more about this partial nudity?

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 24 March 2006 21:04 (nineteen years ago)

Nekkid waitresses

LeRooLeRoo (Seb), Friday, 24 March 2006 21:10 (nineteen years ago)

Where does the partial part come in?

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 24 March 2006 21:14 (nineteen years ago)

Brazen displays of nudity is one of the things about Montreal that I remember fondly as a 15-year-old on vacation with his parents.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 24 March 2006 21:16 (nineteen years ago)

some of them are just topless. but there are definitely places where you can get a fully nude breakfast

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 24 March 2006 21:19 (nineteen years ago)

"just" topless

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 24 March 2006 21:23 (nineteen years ago)

hehe, and the mtl stereotype continues...

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Friday, 24 March 2006 21:45 (nineteen years ago)

four weeks pass...
ONE WEEK

Dumb question, but do I need to bring my passport? I never had a passport when I visited Canada as a kid, but the most recent time was in 1994 -- so it wouldn't surprised me if they'd changed the rules.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 21 April 2006 14:44 (nineteen years ago)

its ambigous

anthony easton (anthony), Friday, 21 April 2006 14:51 (nineteen years ago)

it's not ambiguous, they did change the rules, bring your passport!

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 21 April 2006 14:53 (nineteen years ago)

Coo. So do you know of anything fun going on, Mark?

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 21 April 2006 14:58 (nineteen years ago)

anything fun like... my grandmother's 95th birthday party?!

(which is in TO, i'll be away for a couple days while you're here. but i will see about other cool stuff going on!)

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 21 April 2006 15:02 (nineteen years ago)

Current Requirements for Entry Into Canada

Visas are not required for U.S. citizens entering Canada from the U.S. You will, however, need:

Proof of your U.S. citizenship such as your U.S. passport (For information on obtaining a U.S. passport, check with one of the regional passport agencies located throughout the U.S.) or certified copy of your birth certificate issued by the city, county or state in the U.S. where you were born. If you are a naturalized U.S. citizen and do not have a passport, you should travel with your naturalization certificate. A driver’s license, voter’s registration card or Social Security card is NOT valid proof of citizenship.
Photo identification, such as a current, valid driver’s license.

Passports required on December 31, 2006 for Air Travel, December 31, 2007 for land travel.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Friday, 21 April 2006 15:16 (nineteen years ago)

I am suddenly consumed with this sinking fear that I won't be able to find my passport and will have to cancel the trip.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 21 April 2006 15:43 (nineteen years ago)

im trying to come for memorial day weekend (may 26-29). flights are kinda expensive, like 350usd. but my friends are doing a dj gig up there and might be driving, so i might try to hitch a ride. and may stay for mutek. i dunno yet.

phil-two (phil-two), Saturday, 22 April 2006 05:28 (nineteen years ago)

Whew, after a harrowing half-hour of rifling through drawers and boxers, I finally found the passport. :)

jaymc (jaymc), Saturday, 22 April 2006 06:27 (nineteen years ago)

Although wait, I'm confused, Noodles's post seems to suggest I didn't need to go through all the effort!

jaymc (jaymc), Saturday, 22 April 2006 06:48 (nineteen years ago)

better safe than sorry, no?

phil-two (phil-two), Saturday, 22 April 2006 17:09 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, it still seems ambiguous.

jaymc (jaymc), Saturday, 22 April 2006 17:10 (nineteen years ago)

why are you going to montreal, anyway?

phil-two (phil-two), Saturday, 22 April 2006 17:26 (nineteen years ago)

Why not? Have some vacation days I need to use up and would like to visit rrrobyn and slocki, who are coincidentally my two favorite ILXors I've never met.

jaymc (jaymc), Saturday, 22 April 2006 17:29 (nineteen years ago)

ive almost met slocki a few times. i missed him in mtl for mutek couple years ago, and when he was in ny, he was staying at my friend's house a few blocks from me, but he was playing video games, or something, and didnt want to leave the house!

phil-two (phil-two), Saturday, 22 April 2006 17:31 (nineteen years ago)

So listen. I'm traveling north this summer, playing at NXNE in early June, and am looking for somewhere in Montreal to play - not a standard guy-with-acoustic-guitar, but guy with guitar nonetheless. Where to play? Yellow Door? Any ideas, MTL?

Eazy (Eazy), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 01:29 (nineteen years ago)

I just got back from Terrastock and am super tired but:
- WHOO! to The JMC in the MTL very soon! (yeah, bring passport, better safe than sorry.) So far the weather looks like it's going to be nice too!
- As to the places to play question, I'm going to think on it and email you! But other people should answer too. Because, surprisingly, I don't know everything.
- I also want to meet Phil-Deux.
- Terrastock (and Providence, and the SEA) were SO GREAT. And at the same time it's nice to be able to come back to Montreal.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 01:59 (nineteen years ago)

I should visit now too.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 03:21 (nineteen years ago)

I think I'm DJing November 3rd at Academy with the Attitude City people. I will play some of Le Gay French Canadian Disco, as well as my usual stuff.

dan selzer, Friday, 5 October 2007 14:18 (seventeen years ago)

why do i have to be leaving the city this weekend for WANKS giving :(

Will M., Friday, 5 October 2007 14:24 (seventeen years ago)

s1ocki, Friday, 5 October 2007 14:31 (seventeen years ago)

Whoa I missed that vernissage poster before, I will try to make it though!

Will M., Friday, 5 October 2007 15:21 (seventeen years ago)

totally do

i got all overwhelmed by transcendental patti smith show - made me spontaneously break into tears even. true it has been a hectic week but whoa. it was freakin great and inspiring and life-affirming.
but yeah couldn't make it to reggae after that. us girls managed to make it to my place, smoke a bowl, read some magazines and chat. lol.

black mountain tonight vancouver reprasent and all that

i feel like pop mtl for me this year is all about certain sounds/bands/people of the early 70s and the early 90s and i am all ok with that

rrrobyn, Saturday, 6 October 2007 14:32 (seventeen years ago)

you guys should go see Aa tonight!!!

tehresa, Saturday, 6 October 2007 17:57 (seventeen years ago)

hey y'know i might just do that! drummmming.
there is also this band called Health that are on before them (at 7pm, ooh earllyy) and they are using the word 'kraut-wave' to describe them and i am a sucker for that made-up word. the other show i am going to doesn't start until 9 anyway. musics.

rrrobyn, Saturday, 6 October 2007 19:28 (seventeen years ago)

o man jamaica2tdizzy was soooooo sooooooo good. fuck those guys still got it. had the whole room dancing, singing in the crowd, just fuckin amazing vibes all over. then went straight down to bun b who was great. then weird nxne party with lots of free food and booze. then home. then sleep. then i woke up had breakfast bought a hoodie.

s1ocki, Saturday, 6 October 2007 19:32 (seventeen years ago)

also today is the day when we're all supposed to wear red to support burma protests and the only red thing i have for this kind of in-btwn weather is my white mice t-shirt. which i think is probably the best kind of red thing to wear today and to shows and whatever even if it wasn't a peace-initiative red-wearing day.
xpost

OHMAAAAAAANNN
i'm glad to hear it was good though
and that you bought a hoodie
total hoodie day

rrrobyn, Saturday, 6 October 2007 19:34 (seventeen years ago)

oops i thought that was yesterday :/ and i wore red

s1ocki, Saturday, 6 October 2007 19:38 (seventeen years ago)

maybe it is all the days of this wkend

rrrobyn, Saturday, 6 October 2007 19:43 (seventeen years ago)

well that was fun

rrrobyn, Sunday, 7 October 2007 06:59 (seventeen years ago)

thanks tza for encouraging me to go to Aa show even though Aa didn't come on until like 11:45! it was supposed to be an 'early show' and that happened yeah but with the other bands and then there was a long break b/c Aa got lost in the wilds of NY i guess haha. they were great though, whoa. as was Health, yip yip and, believe it, aids wolf. i don't care what anyone says about them; aids wolf ruled tonight. all in all, totally good bunch of bands. then i made it to black mountain just in time and it was sweet.
i had beer for dinner. uh.
i had a bagel 10 min ago though.
montreal.

rrrobyn, Sunday, 7 October 2007 07:04 (seventeen years ago)

hung out at home till 11pm then went to fred wesley house party (awesome fun) then to dj/rupture, total drunk dance party, then down to the megas0id loft party. left around 4am before i could do anything id regret. wandered streets of old mtl looking for bank machine. fell asleep in cab on way home. i cant feel my face.

s1ocki, Sunday, 7 October 2007 17:04 (seventeen years ago)

hahaow
i just saw eric's trip
it was awesome

it is getting cold out!

rrrobyn, Monday, 8 October 2007 04:22 (seventeen years ago)

i didnt make it out for sunday shows/closing parties. there's only so much a man can do.

s1ocki, Monday, 8 October 2007 04:27 (seventeen years ago)

i should go to mtl some day.

hstencil, Monday, 8 October 2007 04:30 (seventeen years ago)

so true
i am headed for a crash so soon

haha after eric's trip show, outside ukr fed quiet-neighbourhood venue:
organizers/volunteers all "okay everyone has to be quiet and leave please! thanks!"
everyone fairly quickly disperses
us telling jokes after totally being part of dispersement (ironically enough one of the people telling evryone to go is a neighbour of friends and is always being loud at like 5am on like a tuesday). but yeah, jokes:
q: how to you get a group of canadians to get out of a crowded swimming pool in july?
a: could everyone please get out of the swimming pool, please? thanks!

rrrobyn, Monday, 8 October 2007 04:33 (seventeen years ago)

hstencil, Monday, 8 October 2007 04:40 (seventeen years ago)

ohwow where are you now though? you decided on a place to be/live?

xpost - uk fed was soooo sweaty omg sauna i have no idea how anyone could've been up in the balcony either
and then all the sweat evaporated instantly once outside
still, so good

rrrobyn, Monday, 8 October 2007 04:43 (seventeen years ago)

h, rent a car and go! my friends left mtl last night, drove to cleveland, stopped for 3 hours to play a show, jumped back in the van and made it to my doorstep at 6 a.m., 12 hours after they left.

chicago kevin, Monday, 8 October 2007 04:45 (seventeen years ago)

october, underrated month to visit

rrrobyn, Monday, 8 October 2007 04:51 (seventeen years ago)

lauren, Monday, 8 October 2007 13:57 (seventeen years ago)

also very underrated.

s1ocki, Monday, 8 October 2007 15:04 (seventeen years ago)

sorry I didn't whatever, but i had lots and lots of nothing to do. mmmmmmmmmmmmontreal. fuck man, vancouver seemed SO ugly and awful on Sunday and I didn't wanna be here (and kinda still don't).
yeah, October in Mtl, fucking gorgeous. mostly i ate and ate and ate and drank allonges (cuz I don't know how to order one in English, and so it had been NINE YEARS) and walked forever (skytrain>metro, sorry). also, there's a biodome AND a biosphere, and I went to the one W/O penguins, which I was TOTALLY CHEESED OFF ABOUT.

Dr. Superman, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 15:45 (seventeen years ago)

I am here from Sunday, for ten days.

Are there happenings?

Gravel Puzzleworth, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 16:09 (seventeen years ago)

where did you hang dr superman?

s1ocki, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 17:11 (seventeen years ago)

i can't help re: stuff going on this week, because i plan to just play lots of video games (cursed holiday season!), but hallowe'ekend should be fun. will it be the weekend in October or November? Or both? I need a costume. And to know where to wear it.

Will M., Tuesday, 9 October 2007 18:32 (seventeen years ago)

Hey s1ocki your vernissage was very cool! your photos are beautiful. where did you take that tennis court picture? I thought I recognized it...

I didn't get a chance to eat any of the cakes, were they as incredible as I was told they'd be?

Will M., Friday, 12 October 2007 14:42 (seventeen years ago)

you were there??

you shoulda said hi!!

or maybe you did, i was pretty drunk. did you?

(the tennis court pic was taken at esplanade & mont-royal)

and the cakes were awes. if you are interested in trying them or delicious cupcakes go to my friend's bakery at parc just above villeneuve.

s1ocki, Friday, 12 October 2007 15:06 (seventeen years ago)

omg you are friends with miss cocoa locale? pls be signing me up on her cake mailing list.

sean gramophone, Friday, 12 October 2007 15:17 (seventeen years ago)

yes!

s1ocki, Friday, 12 October 2007 15:23 (seventeen years ago)

I would've said hi, but I am shy + you were talking to lots of people! Also I wasn't sure what to say "Hey you're s1ocki right? I'm Will. You know, from the internet. I heard you like Zelda. I like your pictures. Sorry I didn't come to Bun B. Man, is it hot in here?"

But yeah... I got in some trouble because I didn't bring cakes home, haha. Also, I was like "I don't even know what dude looks like" and my roommate showed me the DS review video!!!!

Will M., Friday, 12 October 2007 15:26 (seventeen years ago)

lol!!

i am a beardo now.

i am just happy you came!

s1ocki, Friday, 12 October 2007 15:26 (seventeen years ago)

Haha you are a beardo now! Me too sort of. Except it's more like a teenbeard. And by "more" I mean... ENTIRELY a teenbeard. Was Antexit also there? I actually have no idea who he is IRL, for all I know he could actually be Raël.

Will M., Friday, 12 October 2007 15:43 (seventeen years ago)

he is a tall handsome man... who wasn't there wtf?!? i must have words.

s1ocki, Friday, 12 October 2007 15:50 (seventeen years ago)

s1ocki, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 17:25 (seventeen years ago)

boo. why can't this be next weekend!

lauren, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 17:26 (seventeen years ago)

next weekend I'm djing at 200 Orchard.

What is Poutine's relationship to Disco Fries?

We are staying at some cute place my mom said we had to stay in because it's so nice. It's in the old section or something.

dan selzer, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 17:34 (seventeen years ago)

poutine : disco fries :: aged cheddar : kraft singles

s1ocki, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 17:37 (seventeen years ago)

Were disco fries invented by french-canadian dancers after a night at Studio 54? They go to the local greek diner and ask for poutine?

dan selzer, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 17:39 (seventeen years ago)

disco fries are so nasty. i have high hopes for poutine, howevever (esp. the kind topped w/ foie gras).

lauren, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 17:40 (seventeen years ago)
