Admittedly I was standing with Sonic and Chris Barrus at the back of the Palace's main hall while Mr. Pierce and company were onstage making noises. But still, THE SAME ROOM! Pictures of said band might be appearing shortly.

(This is also the thread where I point out to Citizen Kate that Ms. Pedal here has claimed her rock star crush on Mr. Boom and here says that 'Sonic is mine. He's been cheating on you for years.' You might wish to take her to task.)

I really had no idea that he was going to be there. It was very cool to see him as always.

The show was good too if a bit on the long side.

Cause, like, every SPZ photo I've ever seen has been all "WHOOOO, LOVELY LOOK AT THE PRETTY LIGHTS!!!" thus covering the fact that Jason has the onstage charisma of, erm, a dirty, shaggy and shy youngish man.

I smoked pot with sonic boom after one of his shows. I think that was the same tour he was arrested in the Carolinas for possesion. If only he'd meet a nice girl and settle down.

Chris admitted that he wanted to get a photo of Sonic also showing Jason in the background but couldn't figure out a way to do that without Sonic figuring out what he was up to. So alas no photo of him this time out. He did have some dry comments to share with Chris, but I'll let Chris tell those -- as far as we could tell, Sonic just bought a ticket and showed up unannounced (he's been in LA for a few weeks doing some recording and production work). He left before the show ended and it looks the two are Not On Speaking Terms Still.

It was indeed a very good show and a SLEW of older first-album-era stuff was played -- "Run"! "Take Your Time/Take Good Care of It"! No encore and when the house lights came on I told Chris the only way they could have topped the ending was to have come out again, have Jason say "I've got a friend with me" and had Sonic come out to lead the band in a performace of "Revolution." Mind you, most of the place would have exploded in delight and we would be dead.

Oh yes, Sonic left before the end partially because he said he was starting to be recognized. Having his trademark bowl haircut and wearing a jacket with a Spectrum logo on it *just might* be part of the reason why.

You would have loved it, Spencer! The only S3 tracks I recall offhand were "Walkin' With Jesus" (no surprises) and "Things'll Never Be the Same" (pretty good musically, Jason shredding his voice was the real highlight).
