Route 66

Leytonstone Station via Wanstead (the heart of the metropolis!), then along the East London / West Essex dual carriage poetry of the Eastern Avenue. The swirling mass of tooting cars at Gants Hill, the concrete arch of Newbury Park, then a glimpse of green (and claret & blue) as Chadwell Heath flashes past. Finally, as if it couldn't get any better, the picturesque market town of Romford.

There's an American version too, though not as good.

Eastern Avenue and Western avenue are actually pretty similar (Gants Hill vs Hanger Lane)

some of the original road in America is still there (but not a lot)

don't forget route 666 - the low road to Bolton (which reminds me, I have pictures for Gareth of it)

Also I could have sworn this was a Gareth thread and not a G thread.

The western avenue gets a hella lot more mentions than the Eastern, why is that?

Not just on here Steve, listening to London radio as I do in the morning, the A40 always gets a mention, the eastern though - nothing at all

chris (chris), Friday, 14 November 2003 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

the eastern is the A12 no?

stevem (blueski), Friday, 14 November 2003 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

We have a route 66 that connects Oxfordshrie of Wiltshire via the 66 bus. It passes through Faringdon, and got in trouble the other day by slinging out a girl instead of going into one of the villages like it should have done.
