This is the thread where we post pictures of stuff we've made that we're proud of maybe.

Could be cakes, jewellery, knitting, spice racks, cars or anything!

Let's go...

So there's this girl I'm crushing on (sssshhh!!!) and I made her this badge because she likes stars and purple, pink and red.

Will give it to her next time I see her.

And *I* have paintings by Jel, robot prints by mark (? it's been awhile and I am drunk), collage by Sarah McLUsky, bookmark by MsLaura, flipbook by adam (? duh again) and lessee. . .is that it? hmm. I am retard. and buzzed. I just got home and have been awake for 23 hrs so forgive me if i forgot/misnamed you.

Is that a penguin wearing a space helmet?
And why do you need all those books?

oops (Oops), Saturday, 15 November 2003 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Is that a penguin wearing a space helmet?

No. However the platypus on the left is wearing a fedora hat.

And why do you need all those books?

See response #3 on this thread

I finished this last weekend...it was supposed to be a scarf but kind of evolved into a throw. I still like it a lot, the yarn is beautiful.

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 16 November 2003 18:14 (twenty-two years ago)

why not, jbr?

and my scanner ain't so great...

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 16 November 2003 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Great scarf, teeny! I'm in the middle of knitting one, too, but it is my first knitting project ever and I didn't know that if you only do stockinette that the thing curls INTO ITSELF. So it looks kind of limp and raggedy.

Mandee (Jerrynipper), Sunday, 16 November 2003 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

block it and/or do seed stich all around the outside when you're done...at least that's what I've read. That was my first scarf thingy and I didn't know what I was doing but it turned out. I am trying to learn how to purl now and it's fucking with my head!!

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 16 November 2003 18:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay knitting! I learned to knit and purl at the same time--it must be confusing to learn one and then the other. One easy thing for scarves as a beginner is to purl the whole thing, which doesn't curl. I think it's purling, I don't even have the terminology straight. I usually do projects where you alternate so it doesn't matter which is which. I knit a sweater which I'm all proud of, I'll post a pic when I can get it hosted. I'm doing a baby blanket right now but I don't seem to remember how to cast on, which poses a problem.

I like the painting, jel.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Sunday, 16 November 2003 22:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Teeny, I couldn't for the life of me learn how to purl from the pictures I saw (like on instruction manuals and such)... but after messing around with it for a few weeks I finally figured it out. It's like the knit stitch except completely backwards. GAH I hate not being able to demonstrate!! Next project I want to do is a poncho. That looks tuff, though.

mandee (Jerrynipper), Sunday, 16 November 2003 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm finally getting the hang of it, thanks for the sympathy! These big photos helped. It's still taken me all day just to do a sample swatch. I have a ridiculously large ball of fishermans' wool so I want to make something all about texture rather than color.

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 16 November 2003 23:26 (twenty-two years ago)

also apparently I've been twisting my stitches until now. I don't see why this is so horrible, but I'm trying to relearn the correct way.

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 16 November 2003 23:47 (twenty-two years ago)

who sanded and stained that wood?

grrrrrr usurper of effort!

Orbit (Orbit), Monday, 17 November 2003 01:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, block the stockinette. Or knit a scarf as a tube on circular needles! A garter, rib, or seed stitch might be better for a scarf, as it will be the same on both sides.

I found out my landlord has a digital camera, so once she's back from Ireland, maybe I can borrow it. I finished knitting my doll dress, I just have to sew it together (yuck yuck). Maybe I can get my knitting clubs to help.

teeny, have you read any of Barbara Walker's books? They have lots of patterns.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 17 November 2003 03:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Scarves-as-tubes are much warmer for being double layered, I love those.

I was looking at some knitting sites and it seems like I twist my knit stitches too. Things come out looking fine, and at this point I don't want to bother to relearn.

The sweater I knit: (took me YEARS, and still needs to be blocked)

Wow, Julia, that's amazing!

Orbit (Orbit), Monday, 17 November 2003 04:11 (twenty-two years ago)

mei (mei), Monday, 17 November 2003 07:29 (twenty-two years ago)

mr telecom needs to give credit where credit is due--i am mightily offended.

Orbit (Orbit), Monday, 17 November 2003 08:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Ppl really like knitting round here don't they?

mei (mei), Monday, 17 November 2003 18:36 (twenty-two years ago)

(thanks Orbit!)

JuliaA (j_bdules), Monday, 17 November 2003 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Julia, that's awesome! I suck at finishing and blocking.

I did finally finish a bikini top. Maybe there will be a picture.
