The world is out of kilter...

Maybe Australia beating New Zealand in the rugby hardly counts, but it's been a very odd morning. I had my worst vision problems while going shopping - bright sunlight, and when heading into shadow I really couldn't tell if I was about to bump into someone or not. But it continued in odd style. At the greengrocers I couldn't see any bag, so asked for one to select apples into. The greengrocer growled at me "This ain't self-service, mate!" as if I'd made an outrageous and borderline criminal suggestion. At the supermarket I asked two members of staff about stuff missing from the shelves - one looked blank for a few momemts and said "Dunno. You'll have to ask someone else." The other looked equally vague and said "If there aren't any there we must have sold out. Try again next week." This is unusual behaviour in this store.

Then the side road coming home, someone has gone to enormous trouble to gather all the dead leaves into rough mounds, all up this lengthy road - they could hide at least a dozen bodies under these piles. Then I watched a car drive up the wrong side of the road and position itself for a turn, still on the wrong side - I don't know if it continued that way around the corner.

Have I woken up in some parallel world, only differing from the one I was used to in the tiniest details? At least ILX is still here, but are the secret rulers now 12-foot parakeets or something? Does it rain doughnuts?

Thought this thread was going to be about the two car bombs in Instanbul this morning.

Is it a world where Scotland aren't going to get humiliated by Holland this afternoon?

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 15 November 2003 12:04 (twenty-one years ago)

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 15 November 2003 12:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I was out on Thursday evening, and everybody I was with kept commenting on how they felt disconected, or spaced out, or out of kilter. The world's in a weird spin at the moment.

The question to ask is of course what sauce did you have on your breakfast this morning.

Ed (dali), Saturday, 15 November 2003 13:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I always put HP on my Coco Pops, dead tasty

DG (D_To_The_G), Saturday, 15 November 2003 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

What sort of lunatic would have sauce on their breakfast chocolate bar?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 15 November 2003 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Scotland 1 - Holland 0

athos magnani (Cozen), Saturday, 15 November 2003 15:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, things just get stranger all the time!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 15 November 2003 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

well I was joking but now I realise that if I really did it I'd be promoted to the status of 'lunatic' I'm sorely tempted to actually do it

DG (D_To_The_G), Saturday, 15 November 2003 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

The leaves are like that everywhere Martin, I think it's the way they've settled in sheltered areas away from the wind! It's pretty weird though.

What is happening about your eyes, any treatment soon?

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 15 November 2003 17:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Not soon, no - surgery next Summer, addressing the cataract in my left eye, but the other problem is not certainly diagnosed - I see a neuro opthalmologist next February. It's not been getting me down too much lately, as they'd not been so bad, but they have been very poor today. Also today I didn't get the contracts from my solicitor, so rather than send them back today it will be Tuesday at the earliest (since I'll be at work if they arrive on Monday), which screws the very early moving date we were trying for, I think. And the supermarket were out of what I wanted so I'll have to go shopping again tomorrow. It's not been a good day for me.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 15 November 2003 18:51 (twenty-one years ago)

ah geez, sorry to hear all that Martin. Probably just one of those days as you say! Take it easy dude!

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 15 November 2003 18:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, I don't feel so bad. Just a bit low and pissed off. I know I'll get grief over the delay in moving, if this causes one, even though it's all stuff beyond my control.

At least with the eyes bad I've got more packing done - about 1,400 cassettes carefully packed, which must be two thirds of them! I'll get the rest done tomorrow, and maybe videoa and art books too. Reference books maybe, though I will resent being without them for a few weeks.

Is it a world where Scotland aren't going to get humiliated by Holland this afternoon?

It is.
