what, the dance, or the pie?

Jay Dee Sah Mon (Kingfish), Sunday, 16 November 2003 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I hate the word "pie". Mr Mon, you are thinking of "Merengue".

NORDIC HATES PIE!

Jay Dee Sah Mon (Kingfish), Sunday, 16 November 2003 22:16 (twenty-two years ago)

it's a topping that can go on a pie, not a pie itself. As with all things, whether it is good or not depends on context.

I have always had meingue by itself, is that weird?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Sunday, 16 November 2003 22:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Is there a way of making chocolate meringues that doesn't totally off-kilter-cise the featherweightness of meringue mixture? Or is the very NOTION of such a thing meringue-heresy?

Alex in Doncaster (Alex in Doncaster), Sunday, 16 November 2003 22:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I doing meringue, mama.
I doing meringue.

lemon meringue pie can be awesome if done properly, tho it seems it rarely is. Those solid meringues that are sometimes served as part of a dessert are perhaps the most frustrating foodstuff ever invented. I try to eat them. They crumble. And remind me far too much of Polyfilla or plaster of paris.

You have inspired me to run across the street to Fauchon at lunch time for some of their pink and white meringues (the solid kind like what MarkH is describing). They don't taste of much but the pink ones have a faint hint of cherry and they come in a nice bag with a pretty ribbon, like all the other doll food at Fauchon.

The best meringue in New York City is Scott Bieber's Lemon Meringue Cake for Eli's Manhattan (and its Taste restaurant). Here's the recipe.
