I realize that this has very qucikly become de rigeur without many even batting an eyelid, but there was a time when some of us found this kind of unnacceptable, you know? I guess I just wasn't made for these times...

surely it was more acceptable in the past than it is today? I remember reading about how farmkids would get out of school early so they could 'help with the harvest' and being horrified

cinniblount (James Blount), Monday, 17 November 2003 05:22 (twenty-two years ago)

that still happens where i grew up in kentucky. during "tobacco season", half of my high school classmates were mia. also, my swim team contained 3 people with amputated limbs due to farming accidents.

What is this in reference to? I feel like I'm missing something.

Keith Harris (kharris1128), Monday, 17 November 2003 05:24 (twenty-two years ago)

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 17 November 2003 05:29 (twenty-two years ago)

They didn't exactly swim, it was more of a plummet.

C J (C J), Monday, 17 November 2003 06:09 (twenty-two years ago)

What are you talking about? "Bob" was the star of the team!

Keith Harris (kharris1128), Monday, 17 November 2003 06:10 (twenty-two years ago)

When did this become an IRC server while I wasn't looking?

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 17 November 2003 06:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Um, as an amputee myself, I would like to say FUCK OFF to those of you I'm just joking but you get my drift.

Dancing Queen, Monday, 17 November 2003 06:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I was completely inappropriate. I apologize.

Keith Harris (kharris1128), Monday, 17 November 2003 06:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Anyway, back to the topic - I too want to know what is meant by "I realize that this has very qucikly become de rigeur without many even batting an eyelid". Since when? Is this in reference to some article? Is this about housework? Sex slavery? Making kids work for the family business for no money? What??

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 17 November 2003 06:29 (twenty-two years ago)

"the global economy"

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 17 November 2003 06:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Surely it's the whole point of having children?
