because she's very much sweet and ewing said everyone deserves a thread on their b-day. (obviously he's a lying bastid who only cares about those he fraternizes with in lundun town.)

jess, Saturday, 6 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

since she hasnt posted anything today we'll assume she has better things to do on her birthday than sit at her computer. unlike some of us... (sigh.)

jess, Saturday, 6 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

yeah happy birthday rainy.

duane, Saturday, 6 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Mike Hanle y, Sunday, 7 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i went to Rainy's birthday party last night. After dinner we went to a bikini competition. It was great because they couldn't get any girls to enter, only three girls who worked behind the bar, and there were about ten boys in the competition, two of whom were gay. The boys were strutting and rubbing oil on themselves and doing weird dance moves and urgh. All these really straight men in the audience were so desperate to see a real girl, when me and Rainy sat on the stage for a minute they cheered and clapped. HA HA HA HA.

maryann, Sunday, 7 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

When i said '2 of whom were gay', by the way, they were drag queens wearing bikinis. so there were five bikini-ed people, 3 bar staff and 2 men.

maryann, Sunday, 7 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What a prudish town you live in. Our pagan anscestors would be so sad.

Mike Hanle y, Sunday, 7 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sounds like a grand time indeed. ;-) And yes, happy birthday to Rainy, who is a Very Good Soul. :-)

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 7 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Sunday, 7 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

We all love Rainy.

(Have I got this right, that's her real name? How lovely)

Graham, Sunday, 7 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Happy Happy Birthday Baby. Wherever you are. Is it New Zealand? Sounds like you had a swell time.

Arthur, Sunday, 7 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Happy birthday for yesterday, Rainy.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Sunday, 7 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Happy birthday Rainy! I was too busy fraternizing in London to post the thread but I said that I hoped somebody would.

Tom, Sunday, 7 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

oh thomas, you're a good soul too. (after all, we almost lost you in the bermuda triangle that is the "ile uncategorized questions" section.)

hmmm...rainy has yet to arrive to bask in our collective worship...

jess, Sunday, 7 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

hello all of you sweetie pies! Jess, thank you very much for my birthday thread, its the best thing on the whole internet! I mean it! I had a really lovely day, the best birthday ever. I got new red shoes, i got a heart shaped cake with strawberry candies all over it! I got a shirt with a strawberry on the front! and so much more! I wish that y'all coulda been there! thanks again for this thread, i love it.

rainy, Monday, 8 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sorry for responding so late ... glad to hear you had such a great birthday Rainy! Here's to hoping for many more (and many more ILE threads to celebrate those days)!

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Monday, 8 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

happy belated birthday (i'm a friend of Maryann's (and Duane's) but i don't live in Aotearoa no more....i live in London now

cameron bain, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

why, thank you!

rainy, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

you're welcome. (incidentally, maybe it was presumptuous of me to describe myself as a friend of Maryann and Duane's; they may have decided i'm rubbish for all i know...)

cameron bain, Friday, 12 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No, Maryann said that you're very cool and nice, so I look forward to meeting you one day.

rainy, Friday, 12 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

hey, likewise...

cameron bain, Monday, 15 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

This is so friendly! I *knew* this thread was the best thing on the whole internet.

rainy, Monday, 15 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

hey cameron! how cum you never write to me any more?

duane, Monday, 15 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

duane, i wrote to you yesterday, but got a message saying delivery was delayed for some arcane electronic reason, so hopefully it will eventually turn up...(it was about going to a Stockhausen concert at the Barbican, amongst other stuff...)...also hi again to Rainy, as this thread is dedicated to her...

cameron bain, Tuesday, 16 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hi cameron bain, how are you today? How is every little thing? Dunedin is very sunny and beautiful today! How is London?

rainy, Thursday, 18 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

hi, i am good. i have a hangover and it's grey outside, which i don't mind as long as it has the common decency to rain, like it's supposed to when the sky's grey. also, i have a party to go to tonight. Woohoo!

cameron bain, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have a hangover too! I went to Bath St and there was too much dry ice, not enough other stuff. I threw up in the toilets, oh the humanity! Then I quickly went home.

rainy, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

hey rainy, you made the statscock. congratulations.

di, Sunday, 21 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i have another hangover. why, oh why, must i put up with my persistent shennanigins?

Disgruntled, Dargaville.

cameron bain, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

dear Disgruntled, just go with it, these are the days of our youth.

lily (rainy), Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

hey.........no hangover! it's a Christmas miracle! oh, felicitous day! no. wait a minute.....i'm at work. is there to be no end to my torment?

cameron, Tuesday, 23 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I suggest pudding and lots of it.

rainy, Tuesday, 23 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

pudding, you say? hmmm, any particular varieties? i was always quite partial to apricot upside-down cake and chocolate date brownie....is pudding to be after, before or instead of drinking? i should say, though, i find the suggestion that drinking is in any way related to hangovers highly dubious. i suspect an evil genius has been beaming enfeebling headache-sick-agitated-by-people-and-movement rays through my bedroom whilst i sleep. Damn you, evil genius!

cameron bain, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

cameron bain, hello!. pudding should be of course before during and afrte anything. But don't trust a word I say becaus e tonight I ate peanut butter straight out of ythe jar and called M. Middleton "darling".

as to varieties, anything sweet and looking like mush will do. better if theres dates in it, best if ice cream comes with.

rainy, Saturday, 27 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Watch it, Cameron, you're one of the reserves on the speed psychosis list.

Jupiter, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i'm eating an eclair. it's a bit stale tho'. the evil genius' latest scheme is to force us to look for a new house by the end of december, thus rendering the month of my birthday AND Christmas inordinately stressful. it's an unimaginative scheme, i'll grant you, but fiendishly effective in its fiendishness, the fiend!

cameron bain, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

one year passes...

A kid offered me his seat on the bus, does this mean I am a frail old lady already? Oh well, all this ilx love really calcifies my brittle old bones.

rainy (rainy), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 01:07 (twenty-two years ago)

happy birthday!!

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 6 October 2005 21:06 (twenty years ago)

hey you know how some people don't really like their own birthdays and get embarrassed or don't tell anyone? Well, I LOVE my birthday, and especially love getting presents and having everyone around paying me heaps of attention. Last night at about six pm me and about twenty five friends went to this nice bar and sat in the peachy evening sunlight and drank gin and tonics, beers, margaritas and whatnot and ate delicious free food (bread, olives, cheese such) that the bartender gave us when he saw that it was my birthday.

I got some really incredible presents yesterday, including FIVE new books, a teacup and saucer (for my collection) and a a dolly tea cosy and gosh so many other trinkets. I think when I get a moment I will post some pictures of the gifts onto this thread. I didn't take any photos on my birthday, because I need both hands free for unwrapping presents!

I now have two years before I am thirty; I am intrigued to see what I achieve motivated by sheer panic between now and then.

rainy (rainy), Thursday, 6 October 2005 21:28 (twenty years ago)

Happy Birthday!
