I think somebody just shot something through my window

I was sitting watching Eastenders when I heard a crack behind me. There's a little hole in the glass about four feet behind where my head was. Police are on the way, also boyfriend.

Madchen (Madchen), Monday, 17 November 2003 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I feel OK but my hands are shaking like fuck.

Madchen (Madchen), Monday, 17 November 2003 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

i hope you've mover away from any windows!

kephm, Monday, 17 November 2003 20:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn! Glad you are OK, all love to you from your one-man posse in Iowa!

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Monday, 17 November 2003 20:48 (twenty-one years ago)

it is prolly just neighborhood kids with a pellet gun

kephm, Monday, 17 November 2003 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

That is my theory too.

Madchen (Madchen), Monday, 17 November 2003 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

JFK's ghost, anyone?

Dean Gulberry (deangulberry), Monday, 17 November 2003 20:50 (twenty-one years ago)

That's terrible and very scary, hope everything turns out okay.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 17 November 2003 20:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeep! This is awful! :-( Hope all turns out well as can be.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 17 November 2003 20:52 (twenty-one years ago)

yikes, hope everything is okay.
Ensure your safety first, but also keep us posted!

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 17 November 2003 20:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Jeez,take care, Madchen.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 17 November 2003 20:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I echo everything said so far.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 17 November 2003 21:09 (twenty-one years ago)

The policeman who came over said "looking at the size of the whole, it wasn't as big as they can be. Look, I'll show you" and then he took a cannon ball of a ballbearing out of his back pocket. What he was doing with it, I don't know, but he's right, it wasn't that big. Boyfriend here, will be OK I think. Now I just have to wangle a new pane of glass out of my crappy factor's totally inadequate insurance.

Madchen (Madchen), Monday, 17 November 2003 21:12 (twenty-one years ago)

whole/hole, gah.

Madchen (Madchen), Monday, 17 November 2003 21:13 (twenty-one years ago)

push cookie's nose into the hole.

glad UR OK. down w/ tha denneeztoon nedz!

RJG (RJG), Monday, 17 November 2003 21:17 (twenty-one years ago)

that's awful, Madchen! Something similar happened to my then-wife about ten years ago - idiots with a pellet gun, but it was sort of scary.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 17 November 2003 22:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuck, Madchen! I was going to phone you tonight anyway - you OK?

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 17 November 2003 22:21 (twenty-one years ago)

good to know you are ok.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 17 November 2003 22:40 (twenty-one years ago)

(I'll phone you tomorrow btw)

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 17 November 2003 22:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I am OK, but raging because, as predicted, my factor's buildings insurance appears not to cover windows and I'm going to have to pay for it privately. I can't get private buildings insurance because my insurance company says it won't insure a building that's already insured. And I'm probably going against the terms of my mortgage by having inadequate insurance. Ailsa, I may ask insurance advice later on.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 09:29 (twenty-one years ago)

And I worked out that the pellet probably missed my head by between 6 inches and a foot.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 09:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Did you find the pellet?

Dan I., Tuesday, 18 November 2003 09:34 (twenty-one years ago)

No! That's what's really annoying me. I thought it might be embedded in a book - it appears to have gone straight in the direction of the bookshelf - but no luck yet. I'll keep hunting.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 09:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Eek, horrible. I can relate at the moment! Take care Madchen x

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 09:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Hehe, cute glazier alert.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 13:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Yikes! Glad yr okay Madchen. Grr bloody kidz etc.

robster (robster), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Hope you're well, Madchen.

Ben Mott (Ben Mott), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 14:15 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe it wz a v.small meteorite?

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

The lack of pellet, bullet or meteorite found in your room suggests it was a laser weapon, probably fired by bored CIA operatives.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

it might have been a v.v.tiny anti-matter meteorite, that wd have left no visible trace (part from radiation obv)

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Would it have left a sprinkling of glass on my faux hardwood flooring? What mystifies me is that I remember hearing the crack as the pellet/laser/meteorite hit the glass and I remember hearing the sprinkling of the minishards as they hit the floor, but I don't remember hearing the pellet/meteorite/laser hitting anything after that. I have checked the back of my head a couple of times today to check it's not nestling in my hair.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

it might have fallen back outside the window

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 14:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Or maybe the shot was from inside?

(the glass on the floor was placed there earlier by minions)

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

anti-matter minions

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Given the lack of evidence to support the claims of a pellet/laser meteorite/antimatter-matter reaction I propose that it was

Ghosts or a Chupacabra.

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

doesn't he post here sometimes?

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Madchen - Sorry to hear about the ned attack, hope the little b*stards choke on their buckfast

Why dont you get that 24hr home repsonse thingy? I'm pretty sure you can have that AND insurance and it covers you for panes of glass and burst pipes and stuff, it's about £8 a month or summit,we have it and I've used it a couple of times for minor household stuff - there's no excess either.

smee (smee), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Hi Smee! Haven't heard of the 24hr response thing before but I ended up getting buildings insurance by not mentioning the factor's insurance when I phoned up (this was my factor's suggestion - he reckons it's only illegal if I try to claim on two policies, which I still think is dodgy, but there you go). L**erp*ol & V*c*o*i* displayed a complete lack of understanding of Scottish systems, however. "Do you pay ground rent?" "No, we have feu duty here" "Foo? Eh? Hold on, I'll talk to my manager..." 10 minutes of muzak...

Still haven't found the pellet. I am wondering if it was a lightning ball. Zap!

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 18:52 (twenty-one years ago)

My house as a kid had a BBgun hole in the kitchen window since the 60s... and to just give you an idea of how paranoid and weird I was a youngster, my main concern about the tiny hole being there was that if one day my neighborhood was inundated with POISON GAS, THAT HOLE WOULD ALLOW THE POISON GAS TO SEEP IN AND KILL US ALL.

I'm getting slightly less paranoid.. i think.

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 19:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I got arrested for shooting someone with a BB gun when I was 14. Mine had a scope on it.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

*hides behind sofa*

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Has anyone looked into the whereabouts of Peter North during all this shooting?

Dean Conspiracy Theoryberry (deangulberry), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

haha.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Can I take my nose out of this hole yet?

Ally C (Ally C), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 21:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparently you have a very long nose.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 21:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Suddenly this thread is all sexy.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 21:03 (twenty-one years ago)

It's Showtime.

Ally C (Ally C), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 21:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Madchen, (the top of) this thread is so scary! What did the police say? Where do you live, BTW? London, or....?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

you think it was st. elmo's fire???

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 22:44 (twenty-one years ago)

The pellet was made of ice! Don't bother looking for a tiny puddle, it's long since evaporated.

Dan I., Wednesday, 19 November 2003 01:02 (twenty-one years ago)

uh...did you look around the room using a flashlight?

it may help you find an indentation if it hit something hard.

Aja (aja), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 02:18 (twenty-one years ago)

...oops...that was me accidentally logged in as asiakitty since she didn't log out

BurmaKitty (BurmaKitty), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 02:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Nicole, the police lady said it was probably kids mucking about - they've got nothing to do around here etc. which is probably true. I'm quite sure it was accidental and they didn't actually aim at my head, otherwise I'd be more scared by it. I live in the East End of Glasgow, but not a particularly rough bit.

I didn't use a flashlight because the lights were on! Unless switching off the lights and using a torch would reveal hidden clues (like secret writing in invisible ink?)

I have given up on finding the pellet. It will probably break my hoover when I eventually get around to doing some cleaning.

So, anyway, I got back to work this morning to find the drawer in my pedestal had been forced open and a cheque book and credit card swiping machine were gone, so I have just given all my details to the police again.

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 14:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Oddly enough the Law & ORder I watched last night involved a woman getting shot through her window by accident when a kid on a roof across the street tried to shoot somebody and missed. But that was fiction...

...or was it?

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

they are all based on fact, but some are based on facts from the FUTURE!

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I actually wonder if some kid was maybe aiming at a cat on my windowsill and missed (and almost got me instead).

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

nine months pass...
maybe the bullet was made of meat.

cºzen (Cozen), Sunday, 22 August 2004 13:22 (twenty years ago)

and madchen ate it and is too embarrassed, to admit it?

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 22 August 2004 13:28 (twenty years ago)
