He didn't even ask. I've got intellectual copyright over that picture! Not that it made him any money or anything.

He should have said that a former pet of the week took the picture, that would be k-talent.

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 01:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Holy shit Nick! I took almost that EXACT same picture (only from under a dock in South Carolina and not Devon obv.)! It was the back cover of my first "album" (ie 60 minutes of 4-track music burned to a CD for my friends)! Woah.

seven years pass...

But what do you do with retired dads? Mine started jogging which is great, and going to the movies all the time.

Proger, Saturday, 29 October 2011 11:38 (fourteen years ago)

My father started watching a lot more television. And complaining about every single bloody thing.

my dad will have to work til they put him in the ground lol

interim dn (darraghmac), Saturday, 29 October 2011 12:05 (fourteen years ago)

Can he tell us what it's like, as it's probable we'll all have to as well.

cheque out my debit to building society (snoball), Saturday, 29 October 2011 12:08 (fourteen years ago)

he doesn't think about it at all, judging by the unacknowledged arrears letters that get sent to me on his behalf

interim dn (darraghmac), Saturday, 29 October 2011 12:12 (fourteen years ago)

I was home for a few days the summer my dad was retiring, 2/3 years back, and we took a long walk on the beach and were having a relatively good chat by dad's standards (he can be hard to engage in a real conversation, though not in a bad way, just how he is)

Anyway we were talking about his retirement and he was like, quite upbeat: "I've got the work on the new front of the house to keep me busy, but once that's done I've got a few other projects on the go too."

And so I said "Great! Like what?"

And there was a long silence...

"Ah well like..."

"....."

"Ah this and that" and we both lol.

BE HONEST DAD YOU'VE NOTHING ON THE GO HAVE YOU? NOTHING!

Obviously didn't say that and actually he's doing great, golfing a lot, does a few businessy things to keep him going. He seems more energetic overall, last few years of work he'd come home and be asleep on the couch by 9.

i'm stockpiling movies, albums, games, books and grudges for when i retire, i may well go on the dole when i have enough

interim dn (darraghmac), Saturday, 29 October 2011 12:50 (fourteen years ago)

i can't wait for retirement, once i can amass that feeling of self-satisfaction at having done something good.

which will be easy obviously, it's not as if currently i spend every free minute despairing at the utterly low-brow meaningless churn of what i do now.
