Not telling, but....

Sometimes I get to drive daddy's 2003 745Li. Nerve-wracking is a gentle way to put it, as it is worth more than my life. I have no idea how to work the electronics so sometimes, seemingly at random, a germanic female voice tells me where I am.

Dancing Queen, Tuesday, 18 November 2003 06:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not telling either, at least with Orpheus.

Palomino is a 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera in a beautiful sort of deep aqua color. It looks classier than it sounds. But Palomino is more Mom's vehicle than mine. I'm just driving it because I'm the only one in the household who drives.

And yes, I did happen to name these vehicles after song names, Orpheus after the David Sylvian song and Palomino after the Duran Duran song. Because I'm just that way, sweeties.

Pancakes For Breakfast! (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 06:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh duh. I just realized that Palomino is actually a 1995 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight, not a Cutlass Ciera. Hence the reference to the 1988 Duran song. Eh, lame, I know.

Another paranoia-inducing feature of dad's BMW: while parking, these sensors gauge how far I am from hittable objects, triggering 'beeps' that get more rapid the closer I get. By the time I'm a foot or so away I am a shivering mass of nerves. Beep, beep beep, beepbeepbeepbeepbeepbeep! AAAAUUUUGHHH!

still running a d-reg saab 900i. I might put a twin-cam engine into it if I can find one @ a reasonbable price, coz this one has a rattling cam follower which is v annoying. I saw a really nice k-plate 900s combi, w/low pressure turbo, but they wanted 950 quid for it, sigh.

A 95 Ford Escort hatchback. It's a piece of shit and I can't wait to sell it. It's turquoise and has a spoiler. BUT it is a hatchback and back seats fold down so you can fit a ton of stuff (ie guitar amps) in the back.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 13:08 (twenty-two years ago)

CJ - what's service like on a BMW? Can most garages get parts etc to avoid you being ripped off by main dealers? I hate main dealers. I'm getting a new, well not *new* say 2-3 yrs old, car in the new year and I'm considering a BMW. Nothing mega flash - maybe a 316, 318.

Also on the shortlist - VW Passat or a Bora maybe. Anyone know anything about these good/bad/indifferent.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I have always had good experiences with modern volkswagens. I'd choose one over the BMW, just because you will get more for your money and the same excellent engineering and build quality.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Right now I'm tooling around in a '98 Chevy extended cab truck, but I'm sick to fucking death of it, of the half-hour it takes to parallel park it, the way it guzzles gas like Barney Gumble guzzles beer, and especially sick of getting "dude, can you help me move?" phone calls every weekend. I have a 90 Volvo wagon sitting in my driveway which I am working on currently, hopefully to be mobile before January. Rock.
