I seriously no-joke thought this was a thread about Rolling Rock beer. I was all ready to write "Classic" until I read the posts. Holy socks, I'm stupid.

Jeanne, you have the power to derail this thread. You should seize that power and lap it up.

A lot of my friends like Rolling Rock, I think it's nasty. For cheap beer, I prefer Yuengling.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 21:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I could imagine that a person whom you saw on a regular basis who rolled their 'r's could become tedious.

But in small doses, classic!

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 09:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the best 'r' roller I heard was on the replica of the sailing ship Amsterdam in Amsterdam harbour. A number of museum staff were dressed up as sailors from the olden days and one was pretending to be the captain of the ship and barking orders to the crew. Every order he shouted had a beautifully rolled 'r' in it. I couldn't actually understand him, not being a Dutch speaker, but when I noticed the ppl around me sticking their fingers in their ears I thought I'd better follow suit. Which was a good idea as they were about to fire the cannon.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 09:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Sam, sweetie, do you have any tips on how to do this whilst speaking Spanish?

Pancakes For Breakfast! (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I know - I'm good at languages, but I've practiced and practiced and can't do it without sounding fake. :(
