Hi
I plan to write and record the world's greatest pop album. What elements do you recommend?

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 03:51 (twenty-two years ago)

TALENT.

Pete S, Wednesday, 19 November 2003 03:52 (twenty-two years ago)

You should try to sound like a cross between the Spice Girls and Kraftwerk, that'd be pretty good.

Allyzay, Wednesday, 19 November 2003 03:53 (twenty-two years ago)

If it involves a boy band, they have to wear matching suits. This is key. (It also sorta ties in with Ally's K-werk suggestion.)

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 04:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Two molecules of Hafnium and three Gadolinium.
To keep up with news of the elements:

horns

There's probably a computer program available that synthesises all the necessary elements. Good beat, hooks, sly lyrical depth for the crits, exciting image (a la White Stripes), references to 60s/70s groups, and coming from the right place (e.g. Lowestoft this year), et voila!

Pete S, Wednesday, 19 November 2003 04:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Pete, you don't need computers, it's all chemistry.

Keith Harris (kharris1128), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 04:06 (twenty-two years ago)

'fnar 'fnar

Pete S, Wednesday, 19 November 2003 04:08 (twenty-two years ago)

My name on the producer credit.

TOMBOT, Wednesday, 19 November 2003 04:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Steps vs Busted!

alext (alext), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 06:52 (twenty-two years ago)

ally otm, except you should also try to look like a cross between the spice girls and kraftwerk.

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 06:59 (twenty-two years ago)

also they shouldn't play their own instruments, sing their own vocals, play their own shows or sign their own autographs

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 07:00 (twenty-two years ago)

why do you guys keep maying WIT jokes on this thread

TOMBOT, Wednesday, 19 November 2003 07:10 (twenty-two years ago)

a combination of zappa, kraftwerk, gary numan, my bloody valentine, eatb, and bowie = the world's greatest pop album!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 07:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I pop too much.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 10:53 (twenty-two years ago)

grime input.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 19 November 2003 10:57 (twenty-two years ago)

No one seems to be taking the fact that I'm going to create the world's greatest pop album too seriously. Phase one is writing lyrics. I wrote lyrics for one song last night and I'm working on one today at work.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Can you stick them on here, please?

Pete S, Wednesday, 19 November 2003 14:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Phase one is NOT writing lyrics. Phase one is tunes.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

girls aloud already exist -- show's over, bucko.

enrique (Enrique), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude, Andrew, could you BE any more...hello-oh?

I work better if I have lyrics first to form the melody around. Plus I am really really lazy about lyrics, so I'm getting the biggest hurdle over with first.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Can I be a special guest?

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah but lazy lyrics are often rather GOOD! I'm just worried you'll end sounding like James Taylor, man

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris, why don't you write special guest lyrics? I expect them in my email by the end of the week.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 14:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I can send you my song about Apple Jacks and Fruit Loops.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Totally.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 14:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I plan to write and record the world's greatest pop album. What elements do you recommend?

  • Funky finger popping bass Polyrhythms
  • Jangly salsa drenched Guitars
  • Kerrazy Jazzy horn charts
  • Angst-laden, ethereal vocals
  • Witty Lyrics
  • weird, barely buried shit right before the chorus
  • Big symphonic build up
  • Anthemic finish
  • Big, pneumatic breasts

I can't think of a great 'choon that doesn't have at least one of those things. Can you?

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 20:38 (twenty-two years ago)
