Right next to London Bridge Station. I'm quite chuffed about this, as I think the building itself looks lovely. If quite unnecessarily tall.

I thought skyscrapers had gone out of fashion, post-9/11.

I don't like it, it looks too much like it belongs in San Francsicso or wherever it is that they have the Transamerica Pyramid.

Or else, some headquarters for space alien lizards. Gherkins are erotic, silver space headquarters are not.

Citizen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 12:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I like that it's pointy. I wonder if there's enough space for one man or woman RIGHT AT THE TOP!!!

nathalie (nathalie), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 12:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Those look like horns or antlers or something at the very top. How can they fit a loo in that?

Citizen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

another dull building for london

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 12:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Thing is, when you look at it right next to Guys Hospital, which isn't exactly tiny, you realise it's going to be FUCKEN HUGE.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 12:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, don't we keep Prince Charles around to make sure that eyesores like this don't get built? Or did he give up that royal function?

Citizen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

He wants to sit at the top so the spike goes up his bottom.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

At this point, we need to post pictures of our favourite skyscrapers.

Does Ed's interest in such matters stop with Dams and Trains? I am disappointed if so.

The Umeda Sky Building in Osaka has a nice chunky Lego look to it.

Momus (Momus), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 13:22 (twenty-one years ago)

The Chanin Building in NYC for sheer swhirliness... these wonderful motifs are repeated all over...

The chap who designed this will be doing the new Glasgow Selfridges.

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

That really is a shite picture, isn't it?

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

That looks like some strange kind of semi conductor! I bet HSA would try to tape it at night to see if it hums!

Citizen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

It doesn't hum, but it does do this:

By day, the tall, circular aluminium tower is a ventilation shaft for an underground shopping mall. But as evening falls the aluminum cladding and mirrored plates inside the tower react with the fading light to switch on neon lights which shine upwards inside the tower, illuminating it after dark.

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

It is electrical, therefore it will generate hum on HSA's strange electrical interference hum-detecting device what with he records all his albums and things. (It is a very strange looking device indeed, he looks positively mad when he walks around holding it.)

Citizen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

How tall is this new building going to be?

You can still piss on anybody in any other building - yes, even the Petronas towers - from the top floor of the Sears tower, and that's the way it should be!

Kerry (dymaxia), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

My, that's one hell of a piss. I'm chuffed if I hit the urinal from a yard back.

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

There's just enough room up there at the top of this new tower to put an appropriate CEO:

And of course the pond in front becomes a skating rink in winter.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

What did Europe's tallest skyscraper approve of anyway? Bush's visit?

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)
