Buying 50 Cent cd's for the needy C/D

So our office has this holiday giving program where there are a bunch of cards by anonymous needy families. You can take the card, buy what it says and then it gets to them. Probably 90% of them are clothes and other such necessities of life. Of course, I could not resist:

To: Female, Age 13

ITEM: CDs (Beyonce, Ashanti, 50 Cent)

Family # XXX

I feel the tiniest bit irresponsible for not being moved by all the more immediate needs, but really, she will probably outgrow clothes faster than 50, and surely no one else here would hook her up.

bread and roses, my brother...

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 20 November 2003 19:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Hook her up Jordan. I try to do this at Xmas, too. The Salvation Army sponsors a "Angel Tree" that works like this.

Maybe get her a gift certificate to a record store? That way the parent wouldn't freak out (unlikely) if you give her a CD like 50.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Thursday, 20 November 2003 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Get her the Beyonce. She'll be ebaying the 50 Cent in 9 months time.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 20 November 2003 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought about it, but I think the 50 Cent's a stronger record. Of course I could just get her the new Jay-Z, but she's probably on 50's side of the tiny-mini-50/Jay beef.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 20 November 2003 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

You're nuts nordic. That Fiddy record is just incredible. Give her a gift certificate.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Thursday, 20 November 2003 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Get her Lil Jon!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 20 November 2003 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I heart Lil' Jon (and the Ying Yang Twinz) but I'm afraid he's not as timeless as fiddy.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Thursday, 20 November 2003 19:11 (twenty-two years ago)

how do you know the anonymous needy family/member has a cd player?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 20 November 2003 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Why would she ask for CDs if she didn't?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 20 November 2003 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Um, I assumed she wouldn't be asking for a cd if they didn't have somewhere to play it. I'm sure she'll work something out.

(x-post)

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 20 November 2003 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

They used to do this here until they decided to not do anything for any holidays anymore. So instead my friend who has a Xmas party at his house every year does a toys for tots thing. He's an ex marine.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Thursday, 20 November 2003 19:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I like that non sequitar.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 20 November 2003 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

marines are heavily involved in the Toys for Tots program.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 20 November 2003 19:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 20 November 2003 19:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Do you know who 50 cent is?

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 20 November 2003 19:49 (twenty-two years ago)

(terrible joke)

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 20 November 2003 19:50 (twenty-two years ago)

"Wow! American money! What time would you like your breakfast, sir?"

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 20 November 2003 20:04 (twenty-two years ago)

You should get her Beyonce, she lists it first after all

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 21 November 2003 04:10 (twenty-two years ago)

be a super santa and get her all three

cinniblount (James Blount), Friday, 21 November 2003 04:17 (twenty-two years ago)

You both make good points, but I can't condone the Ashanti, so maybe I'll spring for the Beyonce and the Fiddy.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 21 November 2003 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, G-Unit would be a nice companion to Fiddy. She might have made that list before it was released.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Friday, 21 November 2003 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Just screw with her and get Atmosphere.

Cameron (Cameron), Friday, 21 November 2003 21:16 (twenty-two years ago)
