Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 21 November 2003 05:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Utterly unsurprising, though.

By indirectly invoking the Sept. 11 attacks, the commercial plays to what White House officials have long contended is Mr. Bush's biggest political advantage: his initial handling of the aftermath of the attacks.

Ummm....

Maybe they mean some other Mr. Bush?

As a side note, this is from the Times magazine piece about WTO protesters, regarding the upcoming Miami meeting:

"Miami officials are taking no chances; they recently received an $8.5 million federal boost from the massive Iraq war bill to plan security for the trade meeting."

Um?

rgeary (rgeary), Friday, 21 November 2003 06:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Who can keep all this redistricting shit straight? How many Senate seats did they pick up with this manuever?

Keith Harris (kharris1128), Friday, 21 November 2003 06:17 (twenty-one years ago)

all of 'em, i think

except for the three that belong to halliburton (grandfathered in)

rgeary (rgeary), Friday, 21 November 2003 06:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Wait wait wait -- does this mean that Saddam is actually Castro?

nate detritus (natedetritus), Friday, 21 November 2003 06:31 (twenty-one years ago)

well he did threaten us with imminent nuclear annihilatiou, didn't he?

rgeary (rgeary), Friday, 21 November 2003 06:39 (twenty-one years ago)

that's annihilation. my brain is not a weapon of mass destruction.

rgeary (rgeary), Friday, 21 November 2003 06:39 (twenty-one years ago)

on the serious tip, though, i think the ONLY relevant issue in 2004 is going to be security/terrorism. bushco is clearly going to try to trick us all into thinking that democrats will be mailing personal invitations to terrorists worldwide.

rgeary (rgeary), Friday, 21 November 2003 06:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not surpised they've played this card, but I am surprised they're playing it so early.

hstencil, Friday, 21 November 2003 06:49 (twenty-one years ago)

obv not going to take any chances with the "repeat until true" strategy this time

rgeary (rgeary), Friday, 21 November 2003 06:52 (twenty-one years ago)

The danger in playing it so early is that it makes Bush sink or swim with Iraq from here on in. (Which was pretty much already true, but now all the chips are on that one spot.)

bnw (bnw), Friday, 21 November 2003 07:02 (twenty-one years ago)

'only the leader can lead you, undermine the leader and the bogeyman will get you, all hail the leader'

Ed (dali), Friday, 21 November 2003 09:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Dear American ILXors,

Please all vote in 2004, and vote Democrat (or other). Dee, do whatever your conscience suggests.

Thanks,
Mark

If we don't provide massive tax cuts to the superrich, pass intrusive yet unfunded public mandates for the public school system, and interpret the Book of Leviticus literally, we may as well just hand the keys of the White House over to Osama right now.
