Well, not really the leaflet, just the text - would this get you to phone? Is it grammatically correct and spelling ok etc?

smee (smee), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Line 4: guarantee = guaranteed -yes/no

I don't have a home. Maybe a general idea somewher eon there of what these things cost 9ie whats the cheapest it could possibly be and then say 'FROM $50 upwards'. People need to compare the mainenance with a cost I think.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:11 (twenty-one years ago)

They're a tiny ickle small business just trying to get off the ground and struggling coz it's nearly xmas.....I'm pitching in to help, I know some of you lot out there have huge branes and can do better than this, no?

Thanks Pete! Price kinda depends on the size of yer house so it'd get all complicated trying to explain that .....

smee (smee), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

is this a letterbox drop?

gaz (gaz), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes

smee (smee), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:22 (twenty-one years ago)

After watching that TV programme where contractors of different kinds are secretly filmed ripping people off in various ways, I would be scared of ANY ad of this kind. But the text is fine I think. It's how it's laid out (fonts, graphics etc.) that would play a more important role in screaming 'cowboy' or otherwise. If it looks professional then people feel more comfortable (but may still get ripped off of course).

No upper-case C reqd. in • Wall Coatings. Also I would drop the phrase the quality of our products speaks for itself.

this is both confusing and a bit worrying i feel. what does it mean? and i want it cheap without having to become "featured" thanks very much.

i must admit i tend to get jobs done through word-of-mouth. so who knows? get a couple of suckers and you could be away...

also what david said.

gaz (gaz), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:30 (twenty-one years ago)

As Seen On Builders From Hell.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Pete you are a bad mang!

Thank you very much, this is what I was looking for

They are getting a lot of people saying "I don't want no salesman in my house" and are trying to think of a way that conveys they wont get in the door and then spend 4 hours selling you something you don't need!

They are good though and they do have lots of happy happy customers who are happy to have people come and have a look at the work that's been done...

smee (smee), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

If the leaflet looks professional then ok, the text is concise & to the point, definitely.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks, it'll be a very plain leaflet, nothing shiny or gimmiky, just one colour. It's just that text under a wee roof with the company name and 0800 number at the top. Unless any of you creative types have any better ideas....

smee (smee), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Only prob with that, is i generally throw those type of leaflets away as I expect them to be owned by those types of ppl that are only in the area for a short while.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, maybe they should mention that they are a local company or put the company address on?

smee (smee), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:44 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah definitely, that would help. No mobile numbers either.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)

If "Maintenance Free Homes" is the name of the company (as the use of capitals would imply) then it should be guarantee not guaranteed.

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes Maintenance Free Homes is the name of the company.

PinkP - it's an 0800 no they have, which I think helps their credibility a bit...I hope...

smee (smee), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes that's what I wasn't sure about.

A lot of cowboys waste their money on an 0800 number and no customer service. Teh Featured Home in your are bit suggests they've not been in the area.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I hadn't thought of that, thanks - I shall try and reword it.

smee (smee), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Go with huge gothic type and loads of pictures of flying V's. A mate of mine nearly got sacked from a local newspaper in his role of making the ads for small businesses for giving some poor company that sold fireplaces this very treatment. I've been dying to see it used elsewhere.

Lynskey (Lynskey), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:12 (twenty-one years ago)

go with the "you know and i know" ruse! coddle up to their pretention!

gaz (gaz), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, the Feature Home bit is kinda meant for that, lotsa wee busybody women like that keeping up with the Jones's, first in the street to have it etc etc thing...

smee (smee), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I always wonder how successful dropping leaflets in letterboxes is. do you/they know anyone that has had much of a reaction from doing it?

RJG (RJG), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

it may depend on the town/neighbourhood. i know a few people who check the junk mail for their fun these days...

gaz (gaz), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:22 (twenty-one years ago)

RJG -
That's a worry but with home improvements it's kinda hit and miss anyway innit? I'ts all to do with the targetting, no amount of leaflets or marketing are gonna make you get new windaes if you don't need them!

smee (smee), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:22 (twenty-one years ago)

things like repairs and shit, we just throw out. things like guitar lessons [promising a 'rocket-ride to the planet guitar] and adverts for auditions for doo-wop groups [ages 25-43, black lead singer wanted] [both w/ the same contact details on], we stick on the fridge.

crosspost.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

'Singer, Keyboard Player, Guitarist and Bassist wanted for an R.E.M. Tribute band.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

"Must have own ridiculous suit"

Lynskey (Lynskey), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

smee (smee), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

1+1=2

RJG (RJG), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Um, thanx...

smee (smee), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

The only good leaflet drops I've ever seen are attached to RJG's fridge.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Perhaps he should scan them in and post them?

smee (smee), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

How about:-

"Paging Mr. Surburbia! Face it, the missus is as good as shagging your mate Andy if you don't do something quick to brighten up your house and make it seem like there's some sort of progression in your drab existence. Am I right or am I right? Right! Then check this shit out, we've got

uPVC fascias, soffits and guttering
Tile coatings
Wall coatings
uPVC windows and doors

All at low, low prices, so you'll still be able to maintain that worrying porno habit and your subscription to Max Power.

P.S. Stop hiding whiskey around the house, she'll twig!"

Or words to that effect.

Lynskey (Lynskey), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Have the leaflet handed out by extraordinarily well built men, and put something BLACK STUD PERFORMS SAUCY EXOTIC DANCE FOR LADIES along the top!

Citizen Kate (kate), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

call us to arrange for a survyor to visit...?

gaz (gaz), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I like Kates idea best - sorry Lynskey...

smee (smee), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Awww . . .

Lynskey (Lynskey), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Perhaps I could form a focus group and test reactions to both....
