where shall i live? how shall in live? in new york that is

i have to go to new york for two months next year to do a manuscript thing at the Fales Library which is close to George Washington Square I think. Does anyone have an opinion on ... should I try to rent a place there or what? Does anyone know how you can get medium term places to stay there? sorry this question is so boring.
