i played high school ball, started as a sophomore (that was when we sucked); later hurt my knee, bounced back for my senior year, i was a safety. we lost in semis, everyone was so tired we just did not care.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 21 November 2003 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

what sort of football?
is it what we call soccer?
or the US stuff?

Either way - good luck!
I hope your old school team wins
semi and final!

Beaverton, isn't that where Teen Wolf went?

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 21 November 2003 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

When I was in grade 11 I was the only junior on our varsity basketball team (forward/shooting guard). We had a tough year but managed to do well enough in tournaments to where we could've made it to the provincial championships as a wildcard team, but we decided not to bother to go. Same reason as Haikunym stated: we were just too tired. Half the team’s players had one injury or another, and we were a very small school and didn't have a lot of depth. Next year when I was the only returning player we sucked ass but had a lot more fun. We won a small tournament and when we were back getting changed to leave our coach (who was also our chemistry teacher) ran into the room and yelled (keep in mind that this was 1988) "LET'S GET BUCK NAKED AND FUCK!" Needless to say this was startling to a room full of teenage boys in various states of undress. Anyway, my high school's boys basketball team has been one of the top teams in the province the last couple of years routinely beating teams from schools with 10x the number of students, so GO NEELIN!

x-p to CJ

our "soccer" teams were
always rubbish, our "football"
is what I mean here

I played soccer well,
should have stuck with it instead
of just selling out

I was a QB
but I couldn't throw the ball
or remember plays

much more easy to
run backwards playing defense.
hey it's just like life!

to HM: um, sure. those guys always were pretty hairy. and occult.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 21 November 2003 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Beaverton's nickname,

That's my other team!
Did you ever road trip to
New Haven, Dan P?

I got wicked drunk,
wandered all over for hours,
singing Tears for Fears

Captain Jack (jackcole), Friday, 21 November 2003 23:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, I was in the Glee Club for three years! OF COURSE I went to New Haven!

I got DESTROYED (natch) and ended up almost passing out in the parking lot. My girlfriend (now my wife) was very annoyed with me because of the sheer volume of alcohol I was consuming, but hey IT WAS ALL GOOD.

Actually, I don't remember ever setting foot in the football stadium. Good times.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 21 November 2003 23:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Panthers. We didn't have a football team back then, but the soccer team often made it to the state finals. But usually one of the Windsors (think it was Windsor Locks, but might have been South Windsor) would beat us.

Frank Kogan (Frank Kogan), Saturday, 22 November 2003 01:07 (twenty-one years ago)

One of my coworkers is prone to breaking out into the Hillsboro (Spartans?) fight song. It's entertaining.

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 22 November 2003 02:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I've been covering our state football finals all week, and am now seeing visions in my sleep of high-school girls in kerchiefs, slogan-scrawled wife-beaters and knee socks, their faces luridly painted in school colors.

Go Trojans!

next up is north medford whom,

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 22 November 2003 14:15 (twenty-one years ago)

oh hell it's over
now we've lost to N. Medford,
glory is denied.

(on the other hand that's kinda cool, that means that no Canby team has gone farther in the playoffs than mine, class of '84 represent)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Sunday, 30 November 2003 02:57 (twenty-one years ago)

My high school alma
Mater was a fairly good
And rigorous school.

Academically,
We were utterly stellar.
We had great teachers.

But then my classmates
Had to go and ruin it
By being assholes.

(Not all of them, sure --
Some of them were wonderful
And I miss those girls.

But a large chunk of
My high school class were utter,
Absolute bitches.)

"Number one," you say?
Maybe academically.
But friendship-wise? No.

Tenacious Dee (Dee the Lurker), Sunday, 30 November 2003 03:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyway, too bad
About your high school's defeat
Dearest Haikunym.

Perhaps it will be
Next year that the glory will
Visit your old haunts.

Tenacious Dee (Dee the Lurker), Sunday, 30 November 2003 03:12 (twenty-one years ago)

My school was totally on top. But then... TRAGEDY.

WTF is a "Hoya" anyway?
