Anyone care to play a game of film TAG?

Here are the rules. First, I start out by randomly throwing out the title of a film, and the person who responds to it first has to name one isolated thing about the film (regardless of whether or not they love/hate the film on the whole) that gives them intense, orgasmic pleasure. It can be a line of dialogue, a particular shot, a formal quality, a performance or lack thereof... Anything.

Ready? I'll start simple.

Taxi Driver (Martin Scorcese, 1976)

Eric H. (Eric H.), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 01:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Bernard Hermann's score: gritty NYC saxophone off the fire escape.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 01:41 (twenty-two years ago)

gygax wins!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 01:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Shit, I forgot to mention the second part! You're supposed to name a new film when you answer the last time.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 01:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Therein lies the whole "tag" concept. Someone else name a film and we'll get this thing started up again. (By the way, gygax... couldn't agree more.)

Eric H. (Eric H.), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 01:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Sans Soleil (Chris Marker, 1982)

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 01:46 (twenty-two years ago)

(ps: i like the score to Taxi Driver for more than just the sax, there's some really drony, ripply atmosphere at the heart of it).

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 01:48 (twenty-two years ago)

There we go (haven't seen that one so someone else will have to take the baton.)

Eric H. (Eric H.), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 01:48 (twenty-two years ago)

(I like to score with Taxi Drivers for more than just the sex.)

Eric H. (Eric H.), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 01:49 (twenty-two years ago)

gygax you killed it already unless amateurist or enrique show up!

jed (jed_e_3), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 01:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Taxi Driver sent the gritty mood of early 80s NYC so well, you could almost smell the stench rising from the passing sewers.

Next classic? Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? Great depiction of the truth of interracial romances. Poitier was THE MAN.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 01:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay, ixnay on Sans Soleil... how about: Muriel's Wedding (PJ Hogan, 199x)?

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 01:59 (twenty-two years ago)

"your terrible muriel!"

next!

punch drunk love

jed (jed_e_3), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 02:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Tut-tut, Nichole, for answering your own questions. Tag is orgy, not masturbation.

---

The way everyone starts calling Adam Sandler gay until he punches something to prove his masculinity.

next: Can't Stop the Music (nancy walker, 1980)

Eric H. (Eric H.), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 02:06 (twenty-two years ago)

"leathermen NEVER get nervous! leathermen NEVER get nervous!"

jed (jed_e_3), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 02:31 (twenty-two years ago)

It's almost a retelling of Hamlet, except with beer, hockey and SCTV's Bob and Doug Mackenzie.

Christian Rawk (Christian Rawk), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 02:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Terry Gilliam's Brazil

Christian Rawk (Christian Rawk), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 02:40 (twenty-two years ago)

The mom from Who's the Boss? and her freaky face lift.

i think its a good idea to choose a film a number of people may know.

jed (jed_e_3), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 02:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Babe 2: Pig in the City

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 02:55 (twenty-two years ago)

jed (jed_e_3), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 02:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 02:56 (twenty-two years ago)

i think its just the time of night. well... 3am here and can't sleep.

jed (jed_e_3), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 03:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Alright, I'll pick it up again. I love how considerably darker the film is compared to the first (though animal heads did roll in the first Babe, as I recall).

Dawn of the Dead (George A. Romero, 1978)

Eric H. (Eric H.), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 03:06 (twenty-two years ago)

THE fact that the "Mall Theme" isn't on the soundtrack still angers fans of this film to this day.

Ghost in the Shell

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 03:08 (twenty-two years ago)

The shooting of the evolution tree, wtf.

Panthermute (wintermute-x), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 03:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Panthermute (wintermute-x), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 03:16 (twenty-two years ago)

The mall theme was so awesome, why the heck did they not put it on the sound track!

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 03:18 (twenty-two years ago)

jed (jed_e_3), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 03:22 (twenty-two years ago)

The shadows and the singing. Private Benjamin.

Pete S, Tuesday, 25 November 2003 03:24 (twenty-two years ago)

(Are you guys talking about "The Gonk," or whatever it's called? The one that plays over the ending credits? Why the fuck is that not on the soundtrack?!)

Eileen Brennan, duh!

Suspiria (Dario Argento, 1977)

Eric H. (Eric H.), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 03:24 (twenty-two years ago)

The wierdness, the damn scary wierdness!

Weekend at Bernies 2.

Pete S, Tuesday, 25 November 2003 03:27 (twenty-two years ago)

PURE EVIL is the reason, A Nairn. PURE EVIL. Nah, I have no idea, really. But it's not.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 03:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 03:34 (twenty-two years ago)

The Beavis and Butthead parody "Weekend at Bernie's 8: This Time He's Stiffer Than Ever".

Scrooged

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 03:35 (twenty-two years ago)

the sex scene with love on the beat

Gothika

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 03:41 (twenty-two years ago)

It pimps out the same pseudo-religious terror claptrap that Polanski did so much better already.

Carrie (Brian De Palma, 1976)

Eric H. (Eric H.), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 11:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Eric H. (Eric H.), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Dean Gulberry (deangulberry), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 19:24 (twenty-two years ago)

(I know I haven't, but I'm going to push this thread o' mine to 100 posts if I have to do 'em myself, so I'll make something up about it soon enough.)

Eric H. (Eric H.), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 19:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok Dean, my favorite part of Zardoz is the floating talking stone head. No, it's Sean Connery in a red diaper. No, it's the never-ending New Year's Party with the septuagenarians. No, it's the mindless orgies? Oh, I love it all!!!!

The off-kilter shot of Adrianne Barbeau walking down the stairs to the lighthouse. (Kent Jones wrote on it and, like when certain shots Manny Farber wrote about, I couldn't help but notice it every time I watched the film from then on.)
