smee (smee), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 14:43 (twenty-two years ago)

'introducing henry miller' from 'calamity jane'

enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 14:45 (twenty-two years ago)

in other words, let's up this ante -- how many songs with your FULL NAME in them.

i win!

enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

hundreds

kephm, Tuesday, 25 November 2003 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a band named after my name Enrique.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

'tom ewing'? yeah?

enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

0

smee (smee), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

It says there are 36 songs with my first name in, and I haven't heard of a single one of them. They also failed to list the best known one of all. Harumph.

C J (C J), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 14:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Slowdive, the Pixies and Elvis Costello all got songs with my name. There was also that horrible song by either Soul Asylum or the Goo Goo Dolls, but let's not mention that cos that's even worse than having to hear that fucking Elvis Costello song in every bar ever for half your life.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 25 November 2003 14:52 (twenty-two years ago)

'suffragette city'

enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 14:54 (twenty-two years ago)

No real-looking songs called Nicholas.

Larry Killip and Clawhammer apparently have songs called 'Nick'.

This database smee links to seems a bit weird. CDnow's song title search used to be great for this kind of thing. Then Amazon bought them and Amazon's song title search is shit - it makes you click through pages and pages of often irrelevant stuff rather than the nice one or two page list that cdnow provided. Does anyone know of an online music shop that does a better job?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

i can't think of any 'Steve' songs but i'm sure there are some

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 14:59 (twenty-two years ago)

it wisnae me!

The Tom Ewings - they won a prize in an In The City conference a few years ago and were the subject of much amazement on my part. Never heard of since thankfully.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

the pixies "alison" is about a man though. :P

kephm, Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm namechecked in the ballad of john and yoko! and i'm from southampton too!

pete b. (pete b.), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Suffragete City isn't about anyone called Enrique either if we're going to be all picky about things, kephm!

Allyzay, Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

The Tom Ewings - they won a prize in an In The City conference a few years ago and were the subject of much amazement on my part. Never heard of since thankfully.

for serious!!?? blimey, that makes you like tom paulin. they ended up as the darkness, obv.

enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, it's spelled 'Allison'.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

real name allyzay! julio did name one for me though.

enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm a Steve too, that search engine picked one up by Alice Cooper !!! wtf ?!

Fuzzy (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:08 (twenty-two years ago)

There are 56 songs called Victoria, but that's as far as it goes. I used to hate it in Music classes, as two friends would start playing the Fall's (I think!) song whenever there was a spare couple of minutes before the teacher turned up. I hate that song.

Vicky (Vicky), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

You're real name is "Suffragete"?

BLOODY FUCKING HELL PEOPLE I KNOW THE SONG ALLISON BY THE GODDAMNED PIXIES, DESPITE OBVIOUS SPELLING DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE SONGS I LISTED ALL OF THEM CAME UP IN THE SEARCH, ERGO I AM PLAYING BY THE RULES OF THIS GAME AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY I AM CONSTANTLY CALLED OUT FOR THIS SHIT AND AM NOT IN THE MOOD FOR IT TODAY, YOU CAN ALL GO FUCKING SODOMIZE YOURSELVES WITH BEESTICKS THUSLY.

(by all I mean N.)

Allyzay, Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:10 (twenty-two years ago)

"oh well"

kephm, Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

GLLOOORIA
G_L_O_R_I_A

enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Be careful what you say about Tompaulin round these parts, Enrique...

(xpost) - Hey, my work firewall has no problem with the phrase "FUCKING SODOMIZE YOURSELVES WITH BEESTICKS" - hurrah!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't know, don't care. If there is one it is probably horrible and pathetic.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I was only joking. Ally used to get my jokes.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

The Red House Painters did "Michael"... and I was 24 when it was released. I lived down a colorful hill too. And the catalogue number matches the last four digits of my NI number. And, and, and...

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Be careful what you say about Tompaulin round these parts, Enrique...

pourquoi?? ppl i know were tutored by him. i have seen him on television.

ENrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, but N. you used to be ok with being told to sod off as well. That was before 9/11, things are different now.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm surprised to find 11 songs about colette/collette.

i'm not surprised that i haven't heard of/heard any of them.

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Enrique they are close personal friends of B@rry L@s@gn3. SAY NO MORE.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I am still OK with being told to sod off.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

ok4y.

(xpost)

enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

To be otherwise would mean the terrorists would have won.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Sod off N. ;0)

smee (smee), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't put a winky face on, he deserves it.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, fuck off, Nick.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

(I am so ashamed).

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

There are a bunch of songs called Jeanne or Jeannie (spelled correctly) in them. I was not aware, however, that Donna Summer has a song called "Jeannie." Where the hell have I been?

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

The thing is, I'm getting irrationally pissed off that I almost made that "terrorists haven't won" joke and then I hit submit and saw Nick already made it and I mean FUCK THAT, why must he always be biting my style? Bastard Anglican elf boy.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

At least 14. (They gave me 12, but I know of two others. This seems like a square kind of source, daddy-o.)

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Jimmy - 70.

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

They're all crap.

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:31 (twenty-two years ago)

14 William ones, not including The Smiths. But it does include William (He Had Seven Friends), by Warren Maxwell Carr. Hmm.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Tuomas - none.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Them: Vat eez your name?

Everywhere in the world? Maybe you're just being followed by the Katzenjammer Kids, hippie version.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah Madchen, well it's better than the person busting out: "I Dream of Jeannie with the DARK brown Hair... 'cuz you don't got LIGHT brown hair!! Heh heh!!" Hehhh.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Your request for ØYSTEIN was invalid.

Search inputs must begin with a letter (A-Z) or a number (0-9).

Øystein H-O (Øystein H-O), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

wtf?

6502.00GHZQ.99 (Mark C), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm just a Bill (ktepi), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

2 songs for my first, 20 for my middle name (incl. one by indie icon Frank Black. Yeehaw!) and 9 for my last.

Proves my theory that someone was clued up on the glory that is I

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

45 I don't know any of them.

isadora (isadora), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Two.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 20:45 (twenty-two years ago)

10. I didn't expect there to be that many, but none of them looked that interesting

jellybean (jellybean), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 21:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Three.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Tuesday, 25 November 2003 21:55 (twenty-two years ago)

just wanted to tell N. to fuck off. carry on.

It looks like he has though. OH GOD, WHAT HAVE I DONE?

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 22:32 (twenty-two years ago)

There are no songs with my name in them. I couldn't even find novelty pins with my name on them until a few years ago, when the American Girls dolls became popular.

kirsten (kirsten), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 22:43 (twenty-two years ago)

They found five, including the one everybody knows about. Hurrah Nick Cave!

Tenacious Dee (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

oh yeah i should probably point out that the database won't have every song ever, just songs registered with APRA/AMCOS in Australia. so it's a little patchy but mostly complete.

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 00:02 (twenty-two years ago)

39 for me BTW

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 00:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought it was weird that it didn't even return The Beach Boys' Little Saint Nick.

Does this mean I can sell bootleg Beach Boys CDs in Australia?

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 00:08 (twenty-two years ago)

no, but it means that young Brian isn't getting any radio play royalties for that song

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 00:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I know of 1 song with my real name in it. :)

Gale, Wednesday, 26 November 2003 02:00 (twenty-two years ago)

One as far as I know, and it's not even about a person with my name it's about girls who live in a place with my name.

Orbit (Orbit), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 02:17 (twenty-two years ago)

MARK (WHAT ARE YOU DOING AFTER DARK) Classic!

at the beginning of Railway Jam on St. Etienne's So Tough album this exchange takes place:

"I'm Helen Stevens, I'm having a party, and the other tenants are there, and a few friends. We'd like you to join us..."

"Mark."

"Pardon?"

"I am Mark."

"Oh, hello Mark. Please come in, you'll meet the others who live here, and..."

"Sorry, but... work."

spoken by Moira Shearer and then Karlheinz Boehm, taken from the Michael Powell horror film "Peeping Tom".

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

kudos to the et. i remember watching 'poor cow' and i got this shiver -- i'd heard this line on 'so tough' but had never known where it was from. it's an uncanny effect.

enrique (Enrique), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 14:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Can someone please look up "Kate" for me because the freaking site is filtered, and I want to know!

Citizen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

19 wiv Kate in em

smee (smee), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 14:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks, Smee! Man, now I really wanna know what they are, cause the only thing I can think of is "I Wanna Be Kate" by Ben Folds Five and that really annoying K-K-K-Katie song that people used to sing at me when I was a kid. I hope I can remember to come back at noon tomorrow. Sigh.

At least the most famous one did show up.

j.lu (j.lu), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

....helped by the fact that both Spearmint and Stephen Duffy have released songs called Julie Christie.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 14:45 (twenty-two years ago)

And there is Wo Wo Julie by Shakin Stevens also.
