dud, obviously.

I hate txt abbreviations so much that I can't even write imitations of them.

haha!

wt r u tlkng abt?

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 17:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the Vicar is referring to "text-messaging" abbreviations.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 17:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes. "Text-messaging" is widely used in countries with advanced mobile phone systems.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Er, I urge the Vicar to consider that they may still be lovely people (and their husbands may be reading this!)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, yeah. I have violated my "hate the sin, love the sinner" approach to life - the thread title should in fact be "using txt abbreviations in e-mails - classic or dud".

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

"txt"

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh; well, completely dud then.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Txt abbreviations give you more space to wax lyrical sonnets to the lucky guy/gal's (insert name of body part), though....

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 18:16 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, but surely the bigger the better in this context? therefore long, well developed e-mails win over runty, flaccid ones.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Packs more of a bang, you say? Only when the flow is long and strong.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 19:01 (twenty-two years ago)

quite simple:

in emails to friends - classic
in business emails - dud

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 10:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't even use them in text messages for heavens' sake, none more dudder (wobs excepted)

chris (chris), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 10:07 (twenty-two years ago)

DUD all the way. I'm maybe more annoying by my determination to write proper prose in text messages, but the way it filters into some people's other communication squicks me. All that "u r cming ovR 2ite?" shit... sounds like prince is trying to score. Ugh.

Predictive text misspellings>>>>>>rubbish text abbreviations.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

see predictive txt SOUNDS like a prescription for hilarious confusion ensuing but it is merely poor

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 10:50 (twenty-two years ago)
