Im leaving for Oklahoma an a couple hours to have Thanksgiving with my brother, dad, and his new wife. Her kids are little assholes.

Anyone else dread thanksgiving with the 'family'?

cinniblount (James Blount), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I dig my family, which is why I'd never spend a holiday with them.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

cuz they do not dig you and you smell and you eat all the food plus you smell

cinniblount (James Blount), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 18:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I am an open book to Blount. A book called I Smell :(

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 18:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Xmas is crazy enough around my fam; stopped spending Turkey Day with them long ago

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I actually just gave up family holidays, a bit at a time as I could, about five years ago.

I'm not going to spend the time and money to travel north to see my family multiple times a year, and Thanksgiving and Christmas are such high-stress zones, when you don't actually spend time with anyone so much as you hit the high notes of social obligation and wave to neighbors you vaguely remember from fifteen years ago. I figured, why fuck up both my holiday and my time with my family? Split it up -- I see them in spring or summer, sometimes early fall, and everyone enjoys the time more.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 18:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Spending it with a good friend's family, so yay! I lurv my family, mind you, but I hate the travel chaos so I avoid it.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 18:20 (twenty-one years ago)

you people's lives would make horrible xmas movies!

cinniblount (James Blount), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 18:20 (twenty-one years ago)

We revel in the pain and triumphs of others rather than ourselves. It's a form of self-abnegation.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

No, they would make wonderful lovely movies full of whimsy and love and Momus would love them!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 18:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to dress up as Santa Claus[1] and give out candy canes in the Quarter! That's like a B-plot on a Very Special Episode, at least.

[1] All right, so I put the hat on, anyway.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 18:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Momus would hate my movie because of all the beheadings.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I hate your movie because you don't have any beheadings you pathetic liar.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Tep, were you the one who stole the Drummond's presents?

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

There are beheadings of foul creatures at my families Thanksgivingses!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 18:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Crunchable birds, Gollum?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Tep, were you the one who stole the Drummond's presents?

I didn't mean to hurt anyone! I guess I've learned you just can't steal love.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

He didn't tell you about the cannibalism, did he?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

He tells me jack shit about his various eviscerations and meals. Instead he just acts out that one Cosby Show bit where Bill and Theo talk in high Julia Child voices when slicing the turkey.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I was feeling sort of bad that I was going to tell my mom I wasn't going out to Long Island for Thanksgiving, but when I spoke to her she was encouraging this plan and said she might not be going there either!!

Stay for the gory finale. Blood spurt is spectacular to watch.

"And then we slice the neck like so, delicately carving around the vertebrae so as not to nick our keen edge..."
