Weren't you the one idealizing Gore, though?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

no. i idealize no-one. saying that someone is preferable is not the same as idealizing ned :-)

Eisbär (llamasfur), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Lego is totally pragmatic.

There's nothing idealistic about Swayze??!?

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

isn't it idealist to believe that any change can be made in this world at all? because, some idealists are working for change.

jel OTM.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 19:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Swayze believes in ideal love and similes, thus, she is like the wind.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 19:05 (twenty-one years ago)

The paradox of idealism to me, appears to be that the idealist has a sense of what they want life and etc. to be like - and plot their life course in this direction, their dreams provide a set of rules, much like the instructions of Lego. Whereas the pragmatist, realises that life is beyond such absolute planning and control, no perfection, therefore like the true spirit of Lego, it's "a new toy everyday", and this is the way it should be. Nothing lasts.

no

some idealists are working for change.

some are, some aren't. many just think that they are.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

jel OTM. but what would be idealist toys?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

can we take this time to talk about william james ?

anthony easton (anthony), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I am disturbed by this implication that preferring one person to another is idealizing Ned.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I, on the other hand, find this a beautiful and meet conclusion.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

well, yeah, not all idealists are fighting for change. I don't really think idealist are people who think that this world works according to a set of rules. then again, i think i'm working from a different conception of idealism. i was raised Mormon, where pragmatism is dogmatic and life is all about hard work, waiting for the rewards in the next life. To me, those are rules.

how does the saying go: cynical in the mind, idealist in the heart? or is it optimistic in the heart.

sometimes people just take a while to find a way to fight for change that is right for them.....

possible m (mandinina), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I really enjoy when people I know can't keep "optimism/pessimism" and "pragmatism/idealism" separate in their heads.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

i guess it's nice not to be worried about those labels

possible m (mandinina), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

It is because of PEOPLE LIKE YOU THAT THE DREAM IS DEAD!
I'm idealizing your kind disappearing between my fingaz.

Ay, ya know I love ya, Eisbar!

Is anyone going to own up to not being a realist? It's the most useless term, as pretty much everyone thinks that's what they are and everyone else is either a naive dreamer or a bitter cynic.
