I just watched The Wicker Man. What do you lot of worthless grumps think of such earthworshipping, antler wearing business?

Around here there's what we've called various examples of Pagan Humping Circles. Allegedly designed to spread pagan goals, they seem more inclined to spread social diseases -- a bit like the SCA but all in black and with bodices quite ripped.

It's fabulous. Been to many pagan parties (believe me, they throw good ones, tho you gotta be comfortable with nudity), and even a 3 day weekend at a rural Vermont pagan enclave. I'm too lazy to sign-on full time with any religion, but Paganism is the one. How does Sex, Drugs, and Mother Earth sound for a credo?

These kids and their crazy trends...

Kim, Monday, 8 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

btw, "The Wicker Man" is way cool.

I think that Hanle y is angling to be a Pagan deity.

I'm more used to the romanticised C.S. Lewis version myself, but if anything makes me want to be pagan it's fall. I love it. I want to dance around bonfires under full moons and all that shit.

maria, Monday, 8 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you want to dance around shit? No thanks to THAT brand of paganism!

The Mother Earth bit seems superfluous. Cant grab a cab in the wilderness, that's an inconvenience.

Simon, Tuesday, 9 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

can't conduct odd nude rituals in a cab...wait, nevermind

Mike Hanle y, Tuesday, 9 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

*flash* So you have interesting taxi experiences...? "Lady Cab Driver"!!! Bollocks to the bonfire, I'll play that right now and dance around naked in my downtown flat. (Has absolutely nothing to do with this whatsoever).

Simon, Tuesday, 9 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I've danced naked around fires under the full moon, but it had no religious significance at all.

Perfect. Certainly the inclusion of muttah.

All the ritual makes the sex seem so much less appealing -- like ppl. are excising personal demons, or rather expressing said demons since they're no less hung up than when they started.

Yes, Autumn in New England is magic(k), wonderful, my favorite time of year. But now that I'm living in the Bay Area, the only differentiation in the seasons is either rainy or not rainy, so I miss it. As I stated in my earlier thread, I'm probably going to fly to Connecticut for my freind's Halloween party, which will no doubt include some kind of ritual, although dancing around a bonfire is probably a bit more than he can set up for. I have done that, though; it's great.

An English woman I worked with a few years ago is Pagan, we are still friends and write to each other although she left NY a few years ago. Once she asked me to get some special bay leaf from California and mail it to her, I guess it's hard to get in the UK. She would burn stuff with charcoal too. It was something I'd never seen before, but I found her to be a very level headed, intelligent and kind person, so whatever.
