Warms your heart, doesn't it? Paul Bremer's introduction sounds like the worst Friar's Roast speech anywhere.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 27 November 2003 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

wow¡ it took some guts for that guy to show his face there.

dyson (dyson), Thursday, 27 November 2003 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

It would only count as a surprise visit if he had pop out of a cake. Or emerged from the yams.

Miggie (Miggie), Thursday, 27 November 2003 18:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Indeed. That's pretty amazing.

necessity is the mother of all inventions

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 27 November 2003 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Mm. I'm considerably unamazed by all this, I should note.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 27 November 2003 19:10 (twenty-one years ago)

it's so romantic, i wanna puke!

nodiva, Thursday, 27 November 2003 19:10 (twenty-one years ago)

If I believed that he didn't do this with Karl Rove's 9mm to the back of his dome I'd think it was almost a cool thing to do.

Hunter (Hunter), Thursday, 27 November 2003 19:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Among other things, it would have been a lot cooler if he had come in and said "We'll be extending veterans' benefits across the board and increasing pay in a major way and basically trying to improve your situation." As he has not, fuck him. That budget vote the other day seemed only to have a general increase in pay at best.

"I present to you, the Amerkin people, my greatest project, the "liberation" of Iraq."

Hunter (Hunter), Thursday, 27 November 2003 19:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't like his eyes. They're too beady.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Thursday, 27 November 2003 19:59 (twenty-one years ago)

a cobalt blue office shirt is completely inappropriate for a thanksgiving feast

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 27 November 2003 20:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Q: Do non-yanks use the term "turkey" to refer to something/someone irredeemably bad/inept?

Hunter (Hunter), Thursday, 27 November 2003 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i wouldn't know, old bean

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 27 November 2003 21:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes. All the time. I've been teaching them well.

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 27 November 2003 21:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Check the expression on that soldier with the glasses' face! He's totally like "hyyeah right, whatever, fuckface. Which one's the turkey?".

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 27 November 2003 23:34 (twenty-one years ago)

"ching-ching! to your health!

now bring 'em on!"

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 27 November 2003 23:50 (twenty-one years ago)

That totally smacked of landing on the carrier style showing off to me. I told off Boy today for being ridiculously naive because he said it was a morale event only. Yeah- I find it hard to believe that Bush cares that much & that phoot shoot opportunities NEVER entered his head. Argh. Ok, I'll shut up before I go off on my rant here. Heh, also I burned my right fingertips on the turkey roasting dish, I can't type.

lyra (lyra), Friday, 28 November 2003 06:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I think Bush is saying to the soldier "Hey, do you want some turkey? Then TOUGH. It's all for me!"

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 28 November 2003 10:02 (twenty-one years ago)

(he will then take it away and eat it in front of them making loud mmmmmmmmmmmmm noises)

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 28 November 2003 10:11 (twenty-one years ago)

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

enrique (Enrique), Friday, 28 November 2003 10:12 (twenty-one years ago)

there's too much irony/self-reference/whatever in it for my liking what with Thanksgiving being about the indians who eventually were murdered, and now bush goes to iraq after they've bombed it to bits, to celebrate thanksgiving. Arrgh.

ken c, Friday, 28 November 2003 12:52 (twenty-one years ago)

thanksgiving II: the far too quickening.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 28 November 2003 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I was walking down the street this afternoon and passed a newspaper box. The headline: "BUSH DINES IN IRAQ" -- only the front page was creased in such a way that the first N was lost completely in the fold of paper.

I wonder how many other passers-by saw that headline and completely freaked out.

nate detritus (natedetritus), Saturday, 29 November 2003 02:42 (twenty-one years ago)

He served Thanksgiving dinner at about 7 in the morning, Baghdad time!

Kerry (dymaxia), Saturday, 29 November 2003 14:02 (twenty-one years ago)

i can't believe he only brought one turkey!

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 29 November 2003 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

he shoulda be driving an atv fulla butterballs up to that bitch!

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 29 November 2003 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't believe (oh yes I can) how the media is still going ON about this on Saturday morning: it was simply amazing how he fooled all us reporters, quite clever really, he took our cellphones and drove away in a car with tinted windows! And then we were all sworn to secrecy! Tee hee hee, it really was quite clever!

teeny (teeny), Saturday, 29 November 2003 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I love the missing subtext nobody seems to want to ask, ie, "Gee, if they could fool us about that, what else could they fool us abou...oh."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 29 November 2003 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

We're amazed they got away with hiding their need for prime photo opportunity---again---and too ashamed to admit it to the neighbours.

Yet another slow news day, don't you know? Though tis amazing they believe that anyone (other than the Republicans) are bothering to hi-five themselves other this waste of resources.
