Hail to thee, Bremerton, town of my birth. I only lived there about fourteen days.

I don't remember the town where I was born very well. But here are some pics I found. Other image results included lots of maps, a llama, and a naked man.

This is where my mother works, in the town I grew up in. That's the square where they have the apple and strawberry festivals, and where the national guard fires a whatever-gun salute on Memorial Day and Veterans Day. The small brick annex to the right was the entirety of the fire department for eons, until housing developments added lots more burnable stuff to the town.

Squam Lake, where we have a lake house. I tried to find a photo of the Tootsie Roll house, but no luck; I'll have to take one the next time I'm there, it's incredible. (It's a glass and metal house shaped like a giant Tootsie Roll, built but no longer inhabited by someone who worked for the company, presumably an executive or something.)

Where I went to college. When I lived there, everything looked like this:

But apparently now it's all this:

i was born in Wilmington, N.C. but only because it was the nearest hospital.
I am from Pender County (see map http://img.realtor.com/wilmington/region.gif)

Edwards Air Force Base in California. I assume the hospital is not in this shot (but it could be). We moved two years later, luckily, I don't think I could have spent any conscious time here.

I went back about 15 years ago with some people from work to see the space shuttle land, one of the few times it was open to the public. That long strip may be where that happens.

nickn (nickn), Sunday, 30 November 2003 01:31 (twenty-one years ago)

This is a picture of the local Medical Center. The hospital I was born in is located somewhere just off to the left of this photo. (I could only find a way-too-tiny photo of this hospital on the Internet.)

http://deanna.ladyinterference.com/ilx/mysa/wurzbachmedical.jpg

Interesting that I would be living in this area today.

My favorite picture of the downtown area:

http://deanna.ladyinterference.com/ilx/mysa/downtownsapanorama01.jpg

"Look, Ma! We're a real city!"

I found online this postcard of our airport, probably from the early '90s. Since this photo was taken, major renovations have begun, but the structures in this photo are still there.

Tenacious Dee (Dee the Lurker), Sunday, 30 November 2003 01:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Ack, make that first photo "a picture of an intersection in the heart of the local Medical Center". Bad phrasing. That is NOT the sum total of the Medical Center itself. In reality, it's several square miles of development.

I never think of Inverness as being as pretty as these pictures make it seem.

This is a shot taken in the scultpure garden of Canberras National Gallery, which is just across the lake from the hospital I was born in.

The hospital has since been blown up in demolition, and the resulting explosion fucked up and a spectator was killed.

Meth-o-potamia
CAPITAL: Crystal City
OTHER CITIES: Bonne Terre, Potosi, Cape Girardeau
MOTTO: "A thousand-dollar car, it ain't worth shit."
ATTRIBUTES: Lead poisoning, cave raves, death row
FAMOUS INHABITANTS: Rush Limbaugh, anybody who was executed
EXPORTS: Rocks and minerals, bad teeth
Just as the land between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers is thought of as the "cradle of civilization," this stretch of land between the Meramec and Mississippi rivers is a fertile valley of its own — especially for meth makers. Few other places in the world have as many meth-lab busts as Missouri's Meth-o-potomia. But that's not all this region has going for it. It's also home to lead mines, countless roadside firework stands (as well as the band the Bottle Rockets) and Missouri's death-row prison. Yes, for an unfortunate few, Meth-o-potamia may not be a favorite place to visit, but it is the last.

Karl Malone, Thursday, 9 October 2014 17:40 (ten years ago)

i have to say, i grew up there and liked many things about it. i visited during christmas a few years ago and was FREAKED OUT.

mattresslessness, Thursday, 9 October 2014 18:01 (ten years ago)

you can barely see it but there's a giant "g" on the mountain in the middle. people put stupid giant letters on mountains all along the mormon corridor, it's revolting.

behind that pov is a large shallow freshwater lake that used to be particularly vibrant and beautiful before inhabitants FUBAR'd it over the last century. now there's some movement to cut it in half with a highway so petri dishes of cultural insanity like eagle mountain and saratoga springs can have easier access to the mother population.
