Somewhere on this board the picture of the Neditee exists, thanks to Chris B. Sure in Boston. I am pleased, since I love me them manitees and how they sweetly float in the ocean.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 30 November 2003 01:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Are we talking sea cows?

Pete S, Sunday, 30 November 2003 01:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes. As so sweetly eulogized on the Apalling Poetry thread...

Orbit (Orbit), Sunday, 30 November 2003 01:33 (twenty-two years ago)

the poem in which the phrase, "Speedbump of the Sea" originates:

Manatee, so Graceful!
Speedbump of the Sea,
floating merrily!
Your eyes half closed
and so delicately serene,
your ears relaxed and deaf
to the sound of the turbo,
prop blades cutting through
like warm, toast flecked butter.
Manatee of pieces!

i will lose to aja, but i will always have my cuddly, blubbery manatee to comfort me.

jack cole (jackcole), Sunday, 30 November 2003 01:36 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm going to print this poem out on frou-frou stationery, frame it, and hang it in the kitchen next to the fish broiler.

They're more interesting and all round bizarro if you forget their bovine moniker, aren't they. 'Cos then it's like - well what the hell is that. An example of ppl naming a creature something familar so as to 'tame' its strangeness/shocking newness.

am i taking this too seriously

Pete S, Sunday, 30 November 2003 01:40 (twenty-two years ago)

jack you go right over to ilm and post this to that "your positive contributions to ilx" thread.
