I don't understand why people feel so tortured by family gatherings anyway. At least your extended families give a shit about you. I'm lucky if my grandmother remembers my name (usually, if she mentions me at all, she calls me "Sharon") (No, she does not have alzheimers). I can't remember the last time I was invited to a family gathering, barring being roped into that wedding bullshit.

Allyzay, Sunday, 30 November 2003 08:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Err sorry that kind of had nothing to do with this thread at all. I'm just kind of venting since every single friend I have in the world practically has called me this weekend, as with every holiday weekend, kind of moaning about spending time with their families and it's starting to eat at me since my family can't even remember that I live in Manhattan or what my birthday is or anything and my immediate family is so far from me that I never get to see them and haha spending the last several holidays alone contemplating death classic or dud

haha I've been drinking? go back to screaming.

Allyzay, Sunday, 30 November 2003 08:41 (twenty-one years ago)

hahaha I'm ruining thsi thread.

cinniblount (James Blount), Sunday, 30 November 2003 08:47 (twenty-one years ago)

"extended family" ie not my mom. my immediate family is so far from me that I never get to see them this is the first time I've seen my mom in person in years!!! hahaha but yeah she's totally like the mom on the gilmore girls but weird(er). she kept trying to convince me to purchase some kind of weird penis puppet today at fredrick's, I was like WTF I don't want that anywhere in even my imagination you witch.

"screams of th bored and tipsy"

Allyzay, Sunday, 30 November 2003 08:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Family gatherings are shitty when you are obligated to do stupid stuff. Like getting urged to go to church, and declining because religion is a lie and holidays are empty trappings of conformity, then getting ridden on for being selfish, then offering "well OK I'll follow your stupid ritual if you sacrifice a goat to Odin for me."
They are also shitty for being belittled with the temporary "just like old times," ho-ho, pretending-to-be-funny-but-secretly-malicious, reliving of the childhood pecking order and parental patronizing. They are shitty for the gossipy bullshit of people who really don't give a shit about certain family members, but pretend to until they get to talk behind their backs. They are shitty because you have to be civil to certain people out of obligation and because you're not a heartless bastard, even when those people have little to no redeeming value as human beings, and you would never engage in any social relationship with them out of choice if they weren't born with your blood. Enjoy your privacy and be happy you have friends that call you because they are friends, not because of some manipulative ulterior motive, excused by society's requirement for you to engage in their lives because some relative chose to shit them out of their womb in the same way you got shit out, before you had a choice in the matter. By the way I think your mom scares the navy because they are afraid she will steal all their sparkly sequined sailor suits they use for special occassions, and then they will have to wear regular clothes when it's time to sing and dance.

sucka (sucka), Sunday, 30 November 2003 09:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't worry, you didn't ruin the thread. I enjoy your conversation.

The Navy has special sparkly uniforms?? Fuck, I'm signing up.

I like sucka's family post. I don't dislike being around my extended family as much as sucka does, but if I did, then I wouldn't feel as guilty when I decline to go to their gatherings.

V. Onda, Monday, 1 December 2003 08:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey Vonda I really do like a lot of my family as individuals, but get them together and it's the Jerry Springer show.

Isn't that a nice acid wash jean jacket on piercypukeface! I love mine that I got for $3. The rest of her looks like it was built by kindergardeners playing "frankenstein" with mom's makeup drawer.
