No, what I actually just said was that there are plenty of powerful men whose public policy on policing others' sexuality is the result of latency or closeting on their part. It's a pretty long pantheon in which I would be unsurprised to find Hitler, based on what I know about his other habits and policies. Roy Cohn was a villain to the gay community in NYC in the '80s who was later shown to have died of AIDS.

Thing is, I have no problem believing that Hitler was straight, totally non-Jewish and sane, and I think it's a bit of a cop-out when people try to paint his hatred as some form of inadequacy in those departments. The intentions to implicate him as [category X] have understandably honourable intentions to belittle him, but I feel that the real reasons, apart from being unknown, were probably more complex and possibly surreal than 'he hates X = he secretly is X'.

Hitler-as-Jewish is, I think, already completely validated. Well, not Hitler-as-Jewish in the proper Judaic matrilinear sense, but in the "one-eight" or "one-quarter" way.

Thinking about Hitler's sexuality is just off-putting in any case.

But it wasn't very compelling evidence, especially at the end when the article summed up by saying Hitler was, if anything, bisexual (or even asexual).
In a few days time, I bet there'll be articles about Bin Laden being gay, he's already being described as being the same mindset as Hitler, so why not?

Guys...some /= all, obviously. My provisos included a position of authority and (not explicitly stated) a homosocial milieu. Sometimes people who have no self-control inflict over-control on others.

A little bit like the almost-truism that in many cases the dad who leads the 'search' for a disappeared daughter on the news winds up being the killer. Not all the time, but enough to remark on.

I know what you mean, Anthony, but remember that sexuality is part of life, whatever the (mis)deeds committed by the individual. It's beyond good and evil.

However, people we deem evil always display an element of hypocrisy which plays a role in the judgement. Maybe this is the real issue.

But the way it is phrased is not about the closet but idenity. Now the early SS officers were shockingly queer but the nigh to the long knives took car ot that.
