me altho i am going to try and blag the list so standby allocation if need be guvnor (i mean foreman)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 1 December 2003 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

T Raumschmiere is headlining a show in Seattle very soon (minus all of the above acts, granted)... know nothing about the guy except the Novamute connection.. recommendations?

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 1 December 2003 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

monstertruckdriver! terrific track, go get it. i listened to the rest of his album in the store and none of it is a grabby as that; had i been in a spendier mood i might have picked it up. it's not all shuffly-glammy house, there is some slow breakbeaty stuff, too...the 'variety' turned me off at the time tho.

typo acapulco (gcannon), Monday, 1 December 2003 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

its tomorrow, people!

charltonlido (gareth), Thursday, 4 December 2003 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

i've got this terrible feeling that Weathers is going to play monotonous microhaus and the beat won't change for 2 hours. still going tho (not had chance to try and blag so hang on to a ticket for me charleston mun)

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 4 December 2003 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Gareth, Tessa's coming too...have spare ticket for me (T has hers)?

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 4 December 2003 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

what's the plan beforehand g? are we going to the haywire pre thing? what's the timing? etc.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 4 December 2003 16:26 (twenty-one years ago)

aw man -- i wanna go! have a good time, dudes!

geeta (geeta), Thursday, 4 December 2003 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

i dont know about any haywire pre-thing!

going to bricklayers arms for about 930-10pm but can meet somewhere else before that

charltonlido (gareth), Thursday, 4 December 2003 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

um um er. Am tempted (miss kittin! <3!) but can't help thinking of Raumschmiere as stomp stomp stomp walking music and not stuff to dance to, and, um, stuff.

Do you still have spare tickets, charlton?

cis (cis), Thursday, 4 December 2003 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

that's cool g, i'll go home and have dinner etc and come out for 10 or so.

do you mean this bricklayer's: http://www.fancyapint.com/thepubs/pub133.htm ?

toby (tsg20), Friday, 5 December 2003 11:25 (twenty-one years ago)

There's no way I can make this now: even fucking typing is exhausting me. Bugger and arse to sodding flu.

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 5 December 2003 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

What RickyT said. I quite fancy this as well, but I've been off the bouze since Saturday and am only just recovering from the flu so it's probably not a good idea.

Incidentally, if my next door neighbour is correct, this one will KEEP COMING BACK just when you think you're about to get over it - so good news for all flu-fans.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 5 December 2003 11:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, one of my colleagues has been intermittently off work for THREE WEEKS. I feel very stupid for coming in today now.

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 5 December 2003 11:33 (twenty-one years ago)

my officemate had it for three weeks a few weeks back. though he did exacerbate it by going to all night trance parties + copious stag parties in that time period, so...

toby (tsg20), Friday, 5 December 2003 11:36 (twenty-one years ago)

oof, i 'look forward' to getting what you've got some time in february probably

stevem (blueski), Friday, 5 December 2003 11:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Gareth! Mail me!

suzy (suzy), Friday, 5 December 2003 11:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Ruining a Christmas near you shortly!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 5 December 2003 11:38 (twenty-one years ago)

this week is just a warm up for next week's extraordinary odyssey of ruin for young stevem

stevem (blueski), Friday, 5 December 2003 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

which in turn is a warm-up for... (you get the idea)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 5 December 2003 11:49 (twenty-one years ago)

yes it is that pub. sorry:( there are...reasons.

yes i have tickets. one for stevem, one for toby, one for suzy, and one for cis?

i'll be there around 930...

charltonlido (gareth), Friday, 5 December 2003 11:49 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm really looking forward to this.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 5 December 2003 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Wahey! Bricklayers it is. Have to pop to a PV before but will be along 9.30 for 10.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 5 December 2003 11:55 (twenty-one years ago)

didn't sleep too well last night so will probably be crying and wanting to go home by 2, let's hope not eh?

stevem (blueski), Friday, 5 December 2003 11:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Tessa and Kailas talked about going to the Griffin for the pre-drink so I guess much herding of cats will happen tonight.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 5 December 2003 11:57 (twenty-one years ago)

What PV, Suzy? And do you know what the beef with Jake Chapman was last night or was he just being a prima donna?

THAT Kate (kate), Friday, 5 December 2003 12:00 (twenty-one years ago)

where is griffin?

charltonlido (gareth), Friday, 5 December 2003 12:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Eee, yay!

Shall be at bricklayers 9:30ish, then.

cis (cis), Friday, 5 December 2003 12:14 (twenty-one years ago)

It's actually another PV for the same book, I might not go but have to see people to organise Sunday afterparties re. Turner Prize. Was Jake upset or just suffering from polearse?

Gareth, Griffin is on Leonard Street which is btwn Great Eastern and City Road south of Old Street tube. Apparently it's dedicated pre-drink location but that puts me off.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 5 December 2003 12:19 (twenty-one years ago)

He didn't bother turning up at all. Didn't bother getting in touch with the organisers or ring or anything. The book is total toss anyway, so it doesn't matter. (I mean, honestly. It doesn't even matter if his ideas are crap because it's deliberately presented in such a shit "oh the word processor ate my novel" way.)

And HSA was disapointed cause he wanted to shout at him, I mean, have a discussion. Ah well, Cosey held her own on her own, and I think that her book actually sounded a lot more interesting anyway.

THAT Kate (kate), Friday, 5 December 2003 12:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Kate, I bet he was off shagging in Shoreditch. HSA would much to his chagrin probably like Jake just fine.

Which book was yr. talk thing for? I'm going to launch for Insult to Injury.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 5 December 2003 12:30 (twenty-one years ago)

No, cause he is a "Saatchi Poodle". (Ironically enough, apart from this, I suspect they would get along.) The book was called... sheesh, what was it? Meatsomething. It was supposed to be a "critcism of liberal humanism" (which really wound up HSA) but it was just gobbledegook. God, what was the name? It was a pun on Meta-Culture or Meta-Somethingorother which I can't remember due to the ruin.

THAT Kate (kate), Friday, 5 December 2003 12:38 (twenty-one years ago)

All this poodle-calling is an insult to poodles, really.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 5 December 2003 12:41 (twenty-one years ago)

HSA is pleased because there is a (veeerrrrry potential) documentary about "anti-elitist artists" in the offing, and right now the short list for subjects seems to include him and Banksy. So he can bitch about Saatchi on TV! I am sorry about the poodles, though. Poor poodles.

THAT Kate (kate), Friday, 5 December 2003 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

(The irony being of course that although there are probably loads of other anti-elitist artists, but no one has heard of them cause the Elite won't let them!)

THAT Kate (kate), Friday, 5 December 2003 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Most artists *are* anti-elitist, it's the gallerists who mind all the Ps and Qs and are as a result MUCH more affected. So Banksy, HSA and...Billy Childish?

suzy (suzy), Friday, 5 December 2003 12:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, Chapman was spouting totally elitist pro-Saatchi gobshite on the telly the other day, so I really don't think that he counts. And I don't know... if you bite the bullet and go along with the Elitist system (in a way that HSA says that he doesn't) then can you really be anti-elitist? I know, I know, it's about paying the rent, etc.

I don't even know if *I* believe in HSA's rabid anti-elitism. (Culture is by its very nature elitist, Weblen, etc. etc.)

THAT Kate (kate), Friday, 5 December 2003 12:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw Weatherall last night, he is currently sporting the most RIDICULOUS moustache I've ever seen, it makes him look like a WW2 army captain or something, what a joker.

The music was techy and pretty great, the alcohol exquisite.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 5 December 2003 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Seriously the moustache is worth paying to see, it makes him a bit David Arquette. I expected more microhouse from him but he went into full on London tech in the end, he could make anything sound great in the mix though I guess, such are his selection skills.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 5 December 2003 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

griffin = the haywire pre-thing i alluded to above. i only know this cos it was in time out.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 5 December 2003 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Well I'm sure I'll enjoy a night in Sunny Gloucestershire with the foax just as much!

.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 5 December 2003 15:12 (twenty-one years ago)

how annoying that i work just 5 mins from The Griffin and 10 from the Brickies causing dilemma as to whether to go home or go straight from work...

stevem (blueski), Friday, 5 December 2003 15:41 (twenty-one years ago)

home inbetween

charltonlido (gareth), Friday, 5 December 2003 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

bah

stevem (blueski), Friday, 5 December 2003 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

otherwise stay behind at work ,and eat some proper food beforehand

charltonlido (gareth), Friday, 5 December 2003 16:28 (twenty-one years ago)

but the moustache!

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 5 December 2003 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

we'll see the fucking moustache, allright?

charltonlido (gareth), Friday, 5 December 2003 16:31 (twenty-one years ago)

make sure.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 5 December 2003 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Steve I am going to be in the Lyceum from 6 if you fancy it. But probably only until 7.30 at the latest as I have just nabbed free tickets for Ver Darkness.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 5 December 2003 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)

ok, bricklayers about 10ish

charltonlido (gareth), Friday, 5 December 2003 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, scratch that, I do not advocate SteveM being allowed to drink from 6 when you aren't meeting until 10 unless I am there to point and laugh, which I won't be.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 5 December 2003 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh shit oh shit, I thought I was going to be able to veg out this evening, but I forgot, HSA made plans to go to ANOTHER art party and we have no excuse as it's almost across the road oh no, sigh, boo, hiss.

THAT Kate (kate), Friday, 5 December 2003 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Kate if the ahrtparty is at October Gallery AVOID AVOID. It. Will. Be. Shit.

G, mail me yr. moby number (Ed's at work) and I'll get Tessa to programme it in hers, we are still working on how to buy a vowel.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 5 December 2003 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, that's the one. Please provide evidence of its shitness for me in order to convince HSA that we should stay in and eat pizza and watch bad TV instead... (Friends of his are going and we didn't get to hang out with them last night so I ph34r we may be dragged along anyway.)

THAT Kate (kate), Friday, 5 December 2003 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude! Give me reasons within three minutes, or I'm doomed to have to go to it anyway! Oh well. Sigh.

THAT Kate (kate), Friday, 5 December 2003 17:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Argh, just forget it, you freaking drug-gobbling eedjots, I'm off to try to buy a discount skull for HSA at the NHS medical supply shop.

THAT Kate (kate), Friday, 5 December 2003 17:06 (twenty-one years ago)

October Gallery is where all the Apocalypse Culture artists who can't (even) get a gig at the Horse Hospital go, because it had something to do with Burroughs back in the mists of time, that only those guys who are obsessed with serial killers and comic books ever seem to remember.

If it isn't that, it's usually World Art in the same sense as World Music (I swear I have seen 'god's eyes' in there, and it is not a family room from the mid-'70s.). They have the world's most incredibly thicko press officers who ring three times a week, always when you are expecting a REAL phone call.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 5 December 2003 17:07 (twenty-one years ago)

mists of time, that only those guys who are obsessed with serial killers and comic books ever seem to remember.

Yes, you've just described half of HSA's mates right there, yup. Sigh. Pizza it is.

(Though it was funny hearing Cosey on a rant about sychophantic goffs and certain degenerate godbotherers last night.)

THAT Kate (kate), Friday, 5 December 2003 17:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't mean to hate on PRs but the good ones don't ever ring me (yo Emsk!)

suzy (suzy), Friday, 5 December 2003 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I am really am going to buy that skull now.

THAT Kate (kate), Friday, 5 December 2003 17:13 (twenty-one years ago)

fuck me that was amazing!

weatherall's mustache is indeed worth mentioning, he totally looks like a wwii raf officer. the last hour, and particularly the last half hour, of his set was fantastic. i don't think i knew a single tune he played though (actually maybe it was him who played the "i didn't come to party, i didn't come at all" track that i know but can't remember the name of).

miss kittin was also flat-out amazing too, i thought (and her tattoos rock too); i don't think i've danced so enthusiastically stone cold sober at 5 in the morning in years. song id: what was that amazing electro track she played at about 5:15 which featured a really rough sounding male vocal? there was a 30 second or so acapella dropout and the whole place went wild. lyrics i recall: something about "brown girls" and "big brown titties" (this was a recurrent theme). anyone know??

also gareth, what was the tune near the end that you said was a basic channel classic from 1993?

i think i should get some sleep now.

toby (tsg20), Saturday, 6 December 2003 07:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Weatherall's moustache is all "What ho, Lieutenant? I saaaaay!" and the WW2 epauletted shirt kind of drove the point home. Like I feel I need to watch something warrish on telly with James Mason and Jack Hawkins and John Mills. When Gareth EVENTUALLY awakes he will elucidate on the Golfklub stylings and MAYBE name the record that's bugging Toby.

suzy (suzy), Saturday, 6 December 2003 13:36 (twenty-one years ago)

that's better, i've had some sleep now.

t raumschmiere was ok but as cis said he was more for walking than dancing.

toby (tsg20), Saturday, 6 December 2003 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

That Weatherall set was the best one I've ever seen him do. I liked the way AW and Kittin sat quietly in the DJ box, very focused.

suzy (suzy), Saturday, 6 December 2003 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

?! weatherall was keeping quiet, but miss kittin was dancing a lot of the time.

that was definitely the best set i've seen weatherall do too.

it was weird how few records we knew, there was some great stuff being played upstairs too but all we found out was that one track was by kol keith (presumably remixed).

toby (tsg20), Saturday, 6 December 2003 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

cant believe i missed this. i was dancing to io -'rapture' at a golf club surrounded by braying sales execs and accountants!?!?!?!?!

ambrose (ambrose), Saturday, 6 December 2003 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Toby, every time I looked up at the pair of them they seemed to be mirroring each other's expressions and postures. After about 10 glances at them it just became my blip of them in frame-o-vision. And Ambrose, we missed you too.

Agggh Saturday afternoon telly purgatory.

suzy (suzy), Saturday, 6 December 2003 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

have you been to sleep yet suzy?!

toby (tsg20), Saturday, 6 December 2003 15:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Toby, I managed to nod off for three hours at about 9 after about 8 zoots with G, K and T who came 'all back to mine'. I am shortly to roll, stop and drop once more now the TV is getting REALLY pathetic. Were you appraised of our poor friend Tom who got nobbled by the Annoying Waif while waiting at the Coat Check of Doom? Girl remoraed onto Tom and was hassling him for conversation, telling him how great ketamine is, trying to wangle an invite back to ours despite never having spoken to us, but meanwhile going on with this monologue prattle in the worst way possible. Tessa and I were all NO! Absolutely NOT grumble grumble, and then we overheard 'I don't think the other girls like me, simper simper' which made peace'n'loved-up me do this total thinkbomb of 'oh, just fuck off - love from your friends at the Local Feminist Union'.

We escaped. Tom carted Winona there off for 'a drink'. The Vowel I bought seems to have been fairly speeeeeeeeeeeedy. Which is, of course, another story in itself.

Club Person Location Device: your pink/red stripes v. my b/w 'zebra stripes or...ferns?' coat?.

suzy (suzy), Saturday, 6 December 2003 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

was that the girl with the shaved head? she was really harshing my buzz. i was actually stood about two yards away from you in the coat check but i don't think you saw me.

club clothing: what about gareth's amazing colour changing t shirt? your coat definitely won the recognition contest, anyway, i was impressed that you kept it on all evening. maybe i just get hotter than everyone else (actually that's almost certainly true) but there was no way i could have worn a coat in there.

toby (tsg20), Saturday, 6 December 2003 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes we saw you and decided you were better off in the coat check queue considering the four-way arse pain this girl was busy inflicting. Although she was probably on more drugs than I have ever taken in my life, I felt like going up to her with a bright happy face on and saying 'Hi! The only way you're coming home with us is if you can arrange to have your voice box removed now, by hand, mmmm-kay?' Arrrgh, a ning.

I was able to keep the coat on due to my Strategic Layering Process. No way was I checking it - and with all the palaver with missing/postponed coat retrieval it was just as well.

suzy (suzy), Saturday, 6 December 2003 18:56 (twenty-one years ago)

it was a good night, a good turnout, from ilx: stevem, cis, suzy and toby, plus i think 7 of my friends, and a couple of suzys.

weatheralls set was the best of the 3, and, as toby says, there werent many of the tracks that i actually know, although quite a few ive heard been played out quite a bit recently, raumschmiere was a bit disappointing i think. miss kittin was better, but not so much as weatherall, again, didnt know a large amount of the tracks. there was a rmx of rippin kittin and speedy j ~ pullover, and also the track toby mentions upthread. which is Vainquer ~ Lyot on basic channel

again, i think last night reaffirmed my opinion that the fortress is the best venue in london by some distance, it is laid out really well and just has a good atmosphere.

i kind of missed all the thing with the weird girl, all i heard was her saying "they are dissing me because i am from hackney, i am an artist" a couple times

lucy gave me a blythe book. it seems i am unable to escape that doll

charltonlido (gareth), Saturday, 6 December 2003 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh lucky lucky me, Lawrence of Arabia is on. Will get to see several British character actors with Weatherall taches, and P. O'Toole without.

suzy (suzy), Saturday, 6 December 2003 19:23 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks gareth, i'll download that in a minute. i really liked the fortress *except* having the coat check in the middle of the stairs = totally stupid. but there may well be something in what you say.

kittin also played "how does it feel like" and i think she was playing some recent blur song when i was in the loos at one point?!

i think my new year's resolution will be to go out dancing more.

toby (tsg20), Saturday, 6 December 2003 19:24 (twenty-one years ago)

come to think of it kittin had a bit of a military thing going on too, with the clipped hair/vest/tattoos.

toby (tsg20), Saturday, 6 December 2003 19:25 (twenty-one years ago)

:(

geeta (geeta), Saturday, 6 December 2003 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Which Blythe book did you get, you lucky boy?

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 6 December 2003 23:01 (twenty-one years ago)

i think my new year's resolution will be to go out dancing more.

God yeah, mine too. Sounds like it was an amazing night, I wish I could've made it. Someone needs to track down a pic of the moustache.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 7 December 2003 18:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Oooh Vanquier, can we have a basic channel revivial

Andrew L (Andrew L), Sunday, 7 December 2003 19:51 (twenty-one years ago)

glad everyone had a good time. as noticeable by those present (i would've thought) i quite enjoyed it at first - got a bit bored by Weatherall further on tho, get fed up with not recognising anything (i think i had more fun upstairs when they played the really cool Detroitish track, 'Positive Education', 'The Fix' (!!!!!!!!!!) and such even tho the DJs were terrible and couldn't mix for shit) - perked up a little for Miss Kittin (she was playing the Ed Case mix of Gorillaz 'Clint Eastwood' when Gareth and I went back in the main room - wtf?) but went on a bit of a downer - basically crying cos it was 4am and i was supposed to go to Cricklewood that morning (ha). wish i could've maintained the same attitude as Toby (re-assuring to know that dancing sober til 6 is a rarity for you ;) i was impressed) but just wasn't quite feeling it (not REALLY my thing and i'm in denial i guess - i need PILLS!) and was very tired and boring (cis got the brunt of that i think, oh dear). Fortress is a cool venue tho, and just round the corner from work - bizarro.

stevem (blueski), Monday, 8 December 2003 12:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Luckily we managed to avoid the Thing at the October Gallery, because it turned out it wasn't an Art Party after all, but some awful awful gig by some godbothering experimental musicians which HSA hadn't wanted to go to after all, but he thought his friends were going and they weren't, so we stayed home and watched a Clash documentary on TV. (Which mainly consisted of him going "oh my god, I thought they were rubbish, but they were good all along" and me going "Yeah, I told you so, but oh god, they've left SO MUCH OUT" etc. etc. and so on and so forth)

THAT Kate (kate), Monday, 8 December 2003 12:48 (twenty-one years ago)

how come i got the emotional disarray and bleary paranoia despite NOT taking any illegal substances? :(

stevem (blueski), Monday, 8 December 2003 13:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Well gosh as I predicted I had a fabulously exciting time with the foax in Gloucester :(

I got to play with An BABY though!! :) :) :) :) etc ect and so on.

Steve, b33r is far w0rse than p1llz for instant weeping and paranoia, shurely? Or at least it is for me, boo cry sob. Sorry, petal.

Sarah (starry), Monday, 8 December 2003 13:06 (twenty-one years ago)
