With some gentle words for Eisner.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 1 December 2003 18:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Carl Hiaasen to thread!

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 1 December 2003 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

"Revulsion is good. Revulsion is healthy. Each of us has limits, unarticulated
boundaries of taste and tolerance, and sometimes we forget where they
are. Peep Land is here to remind us; a fixed compass point by which we can
govern our private behavior. Because being grossed out is essential to the
human experience; without a perceived depravity, we'd have nothing
against which to gauge the advance or decline of culture; our art, our music,
our cinema, our books. Without sleaze, the yardstick shrinks at both ends.
Team Rodent doesn't believe in sleaze, however, nor in old-fashioned
revulsion. Square in the middle is where it wants us all to be, dependable
consumers with predictable attitudes. The message, never stated but
avuncularly implied, is that America's values ought to reflect those of the
Walt Disney Company, and not the other way around."

Hiaasen from Team Rodent: How Disney Devours the World

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 1 December 2003 20:34 (twenty-one years ago)

they never recovered from katzenberg

cinniblount (James Blount), Monday, 1 December 2003 20:38 (twenty-one years ago)

He said the Walt Disney company had "lost its focus, its creative energy and its heritage" under Mr Eisner.

"You have driven a wedge between me and those I work with... I find this intolerable", Mr Disney said.

Amazing that it only took him 37 years to realise this, and 10 seconds longer to do anything about it.

If he was so worried about the "soulless" image of the corporation, should have staged a takeover.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 1 December 2003 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

You make it sound so easy. Corporate takeovers aren't won by moral arguments.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 1 December 2003 21:42 (twenty-one years ago)

No, but it could be possible through action. However, tis easy enough to bitch about something being wrong from a place of financial security.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 1 December 2003 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

So you're saying he should have protested the soullessness of the company by launching a soulless corporate takeover? Call me bemused.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 1 December 2003 21:50 (twenty-one years ago)

There's very little Roy Disney can or could have done other than publicly complain about the state of the company. The Disney family may be wealthy but they don't have the kind of financing to mount a takeover, and I doubt they could find many backers.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 1 December 2003 21:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Having worked with Disney refugees ex-Disney people in the past, I've heard similar "gentle words" about Walt's nephew too. (let's just say the idea of these awful remakes and superfluous sequels to classics that didn't deserve them allegedly -- and i stress allegedly -- came from a certain someone).

This is not good vs. evil, this is the lame vs. the lame.

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 1 December 2003 21:56 (twenty-one years ago)

(basically, this is pretty much a one-sided article, since conveniently no one really explains exactly what Roy did at the company, but he "has the last name". Too fucking convenient. Not defending Eisner by any means.)

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 1 December 2003 21:58 (twenty-one years ago)

The Disney family may be wealthy but they don't have the kind of financing to mount a takeover, and I doubt they could find many backers.

Why stay for so long, then? Wouldn't the atmosphere lead you to leave?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 1 December 2003 21:59 (twenty-one years ago)

(let's just say the idea of these awful remakes and superfluous sequels to classics that didn't deserve them allegedly -- and i stress allegedly -- came from a certain someone).

Ah, I did not know that.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 1 December 2003 22:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Why stay for so long, then? Wouldn't the atmosphere lead you to leave?

Ask every employee who has worked at a place they didn't like for one reason or another why they didn't leave earlier. There's no black and white answer to this situation, as DB has noted.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 1 December 2003 22:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Granted. That's the curse of the media, then: articles like these are usually one-sided.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 1 December 2003 22:08 (twenty-one years ago)

VERY black and white. If you want stories that will give you a whiplash of laughter regarding D*z*n*y and sexual harrassment suits btw, I got 'em. Keep in mind, that the ex-D*sney people I worked with have their own opinions and biases too. (and i'm not accusing a certain D*sney family member of coming up with the idea of the awful sequels, to those of you who agree they are awful, but certainly if there was an issue the "family" had with the remakes tarnishing the purity of the D*sney standard, they would have certainly stopped them... but they did NOT! HMMMMMMMM!)

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 1 December 2003 22:10 (twenty-one years ago)

yo, bust out them stories, then!

Jeremy the Kingfish (Kingfish), Monday, 1 December 2003 22:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Ironically, posts like these (especially mine) only further blur the truth as the passing stories get propagated via forums like this, natch.

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 1 December 2003 22:12 (twenty-one years ago)

It's really the only good one i have, but here goes..

* woman interviews man for position at D*sney. allegedly she is grossly underqualified for position

* man cares not, cuz woman is hottie

* man hires woman

* after a few weeks or months, man asks woman out and sleazes it up with her

* woman, SMART woman may i add, tells man she threatens to sue company for large amounts for sexual harrassment unless she is given a large array of computer equipment and told to work at home from now on

* man complies

* woman is found later to have taken employment as a contractor for ANOTHER company using former's equipment at home, while continuing to collect her already large salary from former company as well.

* woman later "settles" issue with D*sney, most likely in her favor. man gets "reassigned" a position, most likely one much lower.

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 1 December 2003 22:16 (twenty-one years ago)

(I misread "Ironically, posts like these (especially mine) only further blur the truth as the passing stories get propagated via forums like this, snatch." I was thinking, "Hey, maybe it was gauche of Jeremy to ask, but that's no reason to call him names.")

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 1 December 2003 22:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, Dan, I meant to type "the passing stories get propagated via forums like this snatch", but I accidentally inserted a comma.

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 1 December 2003 22:20 (twenty-one years ago)

You inserted the comma where?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 1 December 2003 22:21 (twenty-one years ago)

It's always a bummer when a comma accidentally gets inserted into a snatch.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 1 December 2003 22:21 (twenty-one years ago)

,:-)

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 1 December 2003 22:22 (twenty-one years ago)

The ultimate combover.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 1 December 2003 22:23 (twenty-one years ago)

({,})

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 1 December 2003 22:24 (twenty-one years ago)

D,sney would be proud of this thread.

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 1 December 2003 22:25 (twenty-one years ago)

(you pucking ferverts)

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 1 December 2003 22:25 (twenty-one years ago)

It's always a bummer when a comma accidentally gets inserted into a snatch.

Imagine if you actually stuck around for the comma's squeals and moans, Dan.

The ultimate combover.

Is that with or without the tatty mustache?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 1 December 2003 22:25 (twenty-one years ago)

All we need now is an angry google from someone defending the Furvert clans that dress up like sexualized Disney characters, and we have ourselves a Thread De Classique

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 1 December 2003 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

A sexualized Donald Duck is a sign of the Apocalypse.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 1 December 2003 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

HI ROY!

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 1 December 2003 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

HI-HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Doc (Ned), Monday, 1 December 2003 22:28 (twenty-one years ago)

heh. if you want some fun, go do a search for Wally Wood's "Disney Orgy" panaroma that he drew sometime in the mid-'60s

Jeremy the Kingfish (Kingfish), Monday, 1 December 2003 22:32 (twenty-one years ago)

from the animator's union forum:

sucka (sucka), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 07:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Is this trying to suggest Disney characters aren't subliminally sexualised in the first place?

sucka (sucka), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 09:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Only if you don't have enough disgruntled artists working there at any given time.

Well then... Either way, pro or anti Roy, if you didn't think Disney (the company) was at least slightly fucked then, there should be clear signs now.

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

apparently eisner "accused" steve jobs of being a shiite muslim

cinniblount (James Blount), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

you know, like in aladdin

cinniblount (James Blount), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Pixar is starting a 2d division, it will be interesting to see how it does in comparison to disney.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Check out how Disney "Dinosaur" did, it took 10 years and like $150 million over budget with a $300 million cost, and it shit the bed. Disney is going all digital now, they fired all their traditional guys. Don't buy stock.

Pixar 2D unit is only a rumor far as I've heard, but it's a good rumor, someone who knows someone hinted that maybe Pixar might have bought all the equipment that Disney doesn't need now that they fired everyone.

sucka (sucka), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Pixar's distribution deal with Disney runs out next year -- I'd be willing to bet they could go solo if they wanted to.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

possibly, but they'd need to load up on the merchandizing folks if they want them toys in all them happy meals.

Jeremy the Kingfish (Kingfish), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

That may not be the case.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I was about to say.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 18:31 (twenty-one years ago)

From what I heard, Pixar has been waiting to bolt from Diznee as soon as it had a chance. Easy to see why.

>apparently eisner "accused" steve jobs of being a shiite muslim

Not a very well thought out comment for jew Eisner to make.

fletty, Tuesday, 2 December 2003 18:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think one way or another about Disney but a dose of reality for the chicken-littles on this thread:

Disney released today the best selling* DVD of all time and they have the highest grossing movie in America last week.

*in terms of shipped sales.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 18:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I think most of the people on this thread are mostly talking about the animation division.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 18:52 (twenty-one years ago)

yah well the parks are shit too.

Pablo Cruise (chaki), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 20:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Disneyworld is awesome, shut up.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 2 December 2003 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

THEY TOOK OUT MR TOAD'S WILD RIDE! TO HELL WITH THEM ALL!

Jeremy the Kingfish (Kingfish), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 20:33 (twenty-one years ago)

apparently eisner "accused" steve jobs of being a shiite muslim

Seriously? If so, there is such a thing as bad publicity.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 21:13 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe he was drunk and meant to call him a "shit muzzle"

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 21:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Did he turn the light out?

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Right on, firing all their artists and cranking out cheap fakes = milking that cash cow to death.

sucka (sucka), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Stuff about that rumor of the Pixar 2D division just popped up at the animator's union forum.

http://www.animationnation.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=007053

sucka (sucka), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

from that board:

http://www.joecoleman.com/gallery/fear/fear.jpg
"Hi Kids! It's Uncle Joe! We're going on an adventure... into Hell!!!"

Jeremy the Kingfish (Kingfish), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Seeing as my interest in Disney runs solely in their amusement/theme park division, the idea of Eisner having to step down due to overwhelming hatred is enough to get hard over.

Alan Conceicao, Wednesday, 3 December 2003 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

ew

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

never say "Eisner" and "get hard" in the same sentence, please.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Jim thought that his special commission to make a plaster bust of Eisner was a bit odd, but money was money, he thought, as the material began to get hard.

Jeremy the Kingfish (Kingfish), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 18:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Get hard on crime! A special report by Hal Eisner here on the #1 San Francisco nightly news show.
