I'm talking the three major US sports (sorry NHL). Not so much a S&D as just a search since so many would be worthy of destruction.

I really like the job Sean Salisbury has been doing on ESPN breaking down football games. He's not afraid to change his mind. He doles out praise judiciously, and criticizes when it is warranted, and he's pretty entertaining. I like Mike Patrick and Joe Theismann on Sunday nights a lot too - probably my favorite broadcast team - but that Paul Maguire guy is kind of a doofus and ruins it for me.

Ernie Harwell best all-time, for me, with Keith Jackson second.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Ever since I never paid attention to it.

Bro -- THEISMANN?! He's as bad as Dierdorf!

Vin Scully (he does national doesn't he?)

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 20:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Theismann is great. I've never understood why everybody hates him; he is very insightful. Sure, he is full of himself, but at least he is always sensible and on-point - that's most important to me. And he and Patrick work well together. It's the blustering Maguire, master of the obvious, that bugs me among that team.

Broheems (diamond), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

i like mike greenberg, but he was better when he was on CLTV

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

If I was in the booth with Theismann and he was getting full of himself, I'd "fall" on his bum leg and watch him piddle himself like a schoolboy. That'd put him in his place.

Gear! (Gear!), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 21:12 (twenty-one years ago)

If I was in the booth with Theismann, I'd probably pick his brain and ask him to explain a lot of arcane situational coverages and check-downs and stuff.

Bob Costas needs to be calling baseball games again, he is really good.

Some who are not known very well, but I think is really good calling a game is Dan Bonner and Gus Johnson. You only hear them together during the NCAA tournament, but I think they are much better than many of the "name" announcers as they keep out of the way and make the game the center of the story.

I like Steve Young on the ESPN football show and would like to hear him doing some games.

DESTROY -- Billy Packer, Dicky V, Bill Walton, that bald headed guy on ESPN with the goatee that does the NBA...what is it about basketball announcers that stink?

Classic -- Keith Jackson, at anything really, he is known for college football, but done it all and the guy could call a cattle show and make it entertaining.
