fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 04:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I think toads have toxins in their skin to discourage them from being eaten. Darwin didn't factor in dirty hippies, I guess.

Aims: to discover at what stage in the life cycle of the toad the hallucinogenic effects of licking first occur.

Apparatus:a ton of toadspawn, 500g of toad tadpoles, a clutch of metamorphising quasi-toads, a brace of toads, 30 willing volunteers (NB who had not sampled angel's trunpet, to ensure the continued presence of tongues), 1 video camera, water, blancmange.

Method: The 30 willing volunteers were divided into 6 groups of 5. The first group were asked to lick the toadspawn, the second group were asked to lick the tadpoles, the third to lick the metamorphising quasi-toads (which had stumpy, developing fore- and hind-legs but still had tails), the fourth to lick the imago (i.e., adult) toads and the fifth and sixth groups subdivided to lick various lifelike facsimiles of the aforementioned life cycle stages carefully sculpted out of green blancmange to act as a control. Further duping effects were provided for the control group in the form of recorded croaking noises from the local swamp played over a carefully concealed tape recorder. Each group was carefully monitored by video camera over a period of 12 hours to see if any classic hallucinogenic effects were felt. Each individual was also interviewed afterwards to discover whether any hallucinogenic effects were experienced which could not be ascertained through a visual medium.

Results: No behavioural changes were found in any group except the ones who licked the adult toads.

Conclusion: We conclude that the hallucinogenic excreted substances are only exuded from the skin of the toad following the completion of its metamorphosis and its establishment of a terrestrial existence. The absence of any change of behaviour in the control group suggests that the placebo effect is minimal, although further studies conducted with a larger sample size of volunteers may prove useful once we have persuaded our friends at the Acme Dessert Company to intorduce black peppercorns into their blancmange mixture to make the adult toads more lifelike *just this once*.

Acknowledgments: We would like to thank Anura Hopper of the Chipping Norton Amphibian Breeding Centre and Tabitha Sickley of the Acme Dessert Company, Banbury, Oxon. for their assistance in this study.

Did Orbit just splursh in Jess's mouth?

OH. MY. GOD.

How are you defining "splursh"? I bet it's not half as horrifying as the definition we came up with college (see also "splap").

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

i dunno, but doing a GIS for "splursh" just tripped my work-safe filter. great.

Jeremy the Kingfish (Kingfish), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I did a regular Google search for "splursh" and am now DYING WITH LAUGHTER. There is nothing that bored college students can't make ridiculously filthy.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Thursday, 22 September 2005 18:07 (nineteen years ago)

licking toads (the particular species in question being bufo alviarus) does not work and will leave naught but a severely unpleasant taste in your mouth.

however, gathering and then smoking dried toad venom does - the active constituents being the tryptamine psychedelics bufotenin and 5-meo-dmt. bufotenin is, from all reports in literature, mildly psychedelic and extremely unpleasant, with very uncomfortable and possibly dangerous physical symptoms.

5-MeO-DMT, OTOH, is a powerful chemical similar in effects to its cousin DMT, the main differences being a comparative lack of visual effects and a "colder" experience. it's rather unforgiving - 5 milligrams is very, very strong dose which when smoked will cause complete onset within 30 seconds to a minute, peak effects for 5 to 10, and then a gradual 15-45 minute comedown. the actual experience is, uh, intense in a completely reality-annihilating way, and pretty much unlike any other drug save for DMT. it's not even close to fun, though it has its devotees.

blah blah i took a lot of drugs, Thursday, 22 September 2005 18:27 (nineteen years ago)

"SPLAP" - The sound made when a naked woman takes a running leap and lands spread-eagle on a person's face.

"SPLURSH" - A *splap* during menstruation.
