Are you allowed to put up Christmas decorations in yr office? And if so, do you?

two of my colleagues are currently putting tinsel along the top of the divide between their desks and mine while I'm busy working posting to ilx.

a miniature Christmas tree, avec lights, has just appeared.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 12:35 (twenty-one years ago)

No one has forbidden it, but no one does it. Unless you count the toy Santa we boot around the office all year.

As with all xmas decorations, you've either got to really go for it or have nothing at all.

Some moth-eaten strands of tinsel just look depressing.

this office is so open plan that comparisons between different depts' efforts are not just possible, but inevitable. And I'm afraid, N., that at the present level of decoration we're at the depressing stage.

We'll be having decorations and a tree in the public search room, but I think the office remains decoration free. I've got a reindeer costume for a monitor, but unless it goes on one of the tiny ones (if we have any left) then it has to go on one that isn't being used, as it covers too much of the screen up. It does mean that we can stick a red nose in the middle of the screen though.

Decorations, yes, but not religious ones. Ergo, lots and lots of plants.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

we're not allowed plants in the office :0( They attract bugs, which even if they don't harm paper etc. they may attract other things that do. Similarly, we're not allowed to eat at our desks in case things are attracted to crumbs.

We're having an office decorating competition here, it's got to be done by the end of this week. We're doing a christmas pudding on one of our pods. The pod directly behind me has suddenly sprouted pink tinsel and balloons in the last half hour.

The decs have just gone up here. Getting things on the ceiling involved much H&S-defying desk-walking.

It's all jolly colourful but but I find it difficult to associate Xmas cheer with being in the office so nothing around my desk. I'll probably be accused of hating fun before the end of the day.

FUNHATER!!!

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

as it covers too much of the screen up

erm, I don't think this is the only reason why you shouldn't put deccies of any kind of electrical equipment. Isn't it a fire risk?

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

What could be more Christmassy than a nice roaring fire??

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

It only goes over the monitor sides, it doesn't cover up any air vents or anything like that. And it's fake fur, not tinsel, which isn't quite as flammable.

Vicky (Vicky), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 14:02 (twenty-one years ago)

the deccie erecting appears to have gone into slow mode now. The fairy lights are piled up willy-nilly atop an A4 binder a few feet away from me and I'm not sure what's become of the tree.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 14:04 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, it's my job to decorate this year. I bought a little tree from Woolies, but I think I may bring it home and just plant it in the garden.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, well, this year they're making a party out of it. starting exactly when I leave. which is a good thing, since I hate fun.
